*gets towel to clean up the puddle*
So, an MMO based on a character- and plot-driven television series. It's not going to work. And can you imagine Jayne standing around in some location as an NPC giving out quests such as "bring me the emblems from three Blue Sun Corporation employees?" I shudder at the thought.
pardzh, basically, here's how I explain Firefly to people who haven't seen it. Imagine Han Solo showed up at the Death Star 5 minutes too late, and Luke Skywalker and the rest of the rebels were dead and the Empire now ruled the entire galaxy forever. What would Han Solo do? Well, go back to smuggling of course. Now basically Firefly is about Han Solo and his crew, which instead of Chewbacca is 8 other people. Plus there are no aliens.
It's a sci-fi show, but my parents, my brother, and plenty of other people who don't like sci-fi absolutely adore it. It's funny, it's pretty, the actors are AMAZING, it has awesome music and special effects, the writing is great, and you really care about every single one of the characters. Of course, a show like this is so awesome, that of course it has to be cancelled by Fox (see: Arrested Development, Futurama, Family Guy, etc). It's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Firefly-Complete-Ron-Glass/dp/B0000AQS0F/sr=8-1/qid=1165533868/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-7709666-2293701?ie=UTF8&s=dvd" target="_blank">on sale on Amazon.com</a> and you should totally buy it without even thinking about it or seeing an episode because it's that awesome and you won't regret it.
No Chewbacca? Well no wonder it was cancelled.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well, by no Chewbacca I mean no aliens.
Sounds great, but unless they do away with the horrible "levels & xp" mechanic that I hate so much, then I doubt I'd ever play it. Who am I kidding? I probably wouldn't play it anyway because I am loathe to pay a subscription fee.

The monthly fees for MMORPGs aren't a big deal... It's the nonsense with level grinding, farming, level grinding, farming some more, and level grinding some more.

Insane is probably the right expression.

I agree.
as with any MMO... I don't care until someone shows me some gameplay <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Same department, Show me the money before I show you mine. ;p
(Serenity is dead to me for killing off characters!)
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
But that's Whedon all around: Make you love a character, then kill that character.
WTHomghax. I think I'll buy 18 copies, if only to convince Fox that the show is popular enough to bring back. Firefly is bar none the best thing that ever has been or ever will be on the television screen. It's so much better than every show ever made combined that it's hard for me to go on living knowing that it's not currently on the air.

Someone shoot me, I actually agree with this man for once!
(Serenity is dead to me for killing off characters!)
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Serenity >>>> You, dead characters and all. Blew me away.
Serenity >>>> You, dead characters and all. Blew me away.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And just as a service to the forums, we should probably not mention any of the name(s) of anyone who died, because people like poor wittle pardzh haven't seen Firefly yet. Woe unto them, for their life is blighted, etc.
I'm hoping for the former. Something like Eve but actually fun and engaging.

Just had a thought: Wouldn't it be really cool if the game was in half chinese like the show requiring you to, at the very least, pick up a basic understanding of it in order to do certain things? Some people might find that to be a turn off, but I think it'd be great for immersion.
*Can't find the link to the post because the damn search engine doesn't work right. Basically Gem talked about a game world where adventures aren't missions forced upon you to drive the story line, and actually came about on their own because of the way the game world was structured.
Please don't suck.

I guess Jayne could... <b>kinda</b> be Chewbacca...
This is cool. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Firefly and Serenity are some of my favourite shows/movies, and it's really sad that they were cancelled. The only bad thing I can find about Firefly is the music. That stuff sucked. But it's easy to see past one flaw when the rest of it is so awesome.

I'm gonna try to keep spoilers low here, so...
Sadly, killing off the second character who dies in the film was a very good move for the overall plot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
Killing off the first character who dies was ridiculous, though, because they left almost NOTHING explained.

I'm rather okay with killing off the first character since I didn't get too attached to him although the plot hints that were dropped in the movie were rather tantalizing. I hated the second kill though. For one his role really got the short shrift in the movie, I don't see his death affecting non-fans at all. Also, didn't it almost feel blasphemous that the "others" in the movie got buried alongside the two major roles that were killed?
And I thought the music for Firefly was pretty good. Not the best thing evar but the music in "War Stories" did get to me.
Also, check out this real shiny fan project, <a href="http://www.intotheblack.ca/node/41" target="_blank">Into The Black</a>

They should have rather tried to kill the annoyingly annoying characters rather than having a nearly-off-screen death and the second one just... dying.
Also, they should continue the series (prior Serenity if possible, those dead characters are better alive) instead of making an MMO.
