A storyline for NS2

<div class="IPBDescription">That's whats gonna make it hot</div>I dunno what others feel about this, but personally, I think Natural Selection 2 could really expand on the storyline part. You know, kinda like having a easily accessed "History" part on both the main website, and ingame. And also, to put up some cool canon story such as Six Days in Sanji in order to let people feel more for NS2.

It's kinda like WoW, many ppl I noe played it for the sake of storyline alone.

Imo, if NS2 had a good and solid storyline, chances are even more players would play it.

Perhaps expand much more on the "Natural Selection was the encounter, Natural Selection 2 is the war!"

And also toggle options to view background info from the ingame options, such as accessing a page like this...

Frontiersman PDA

The Frontiersman PDA could be a new function that displays a PDA-like control panel, where you can click on things such as "History", "Current War Status", "Frontiersman Data", "Kharaa Info" and stuff like that. Current War Status could have a neat storyline on the current stand of the marines against the kharaa, meanwhile Kharaa Info could display information of all the aliens structures and species, while Frontiersman Data has info on all weapons and structures.

    This would make aliens underpowered... how would the devs code a story... would detract from the teamwork aspect... just kidding =P

    Storyline would be cool, but we'd need an author for that first.

    The PDA sounds very possible, however, it sounds like a khaara/frontiersmen guide which could possibly be a manual or a "how-to" guide (How to gorge, how to comm, etc...), and the "Current War Status" could hold some dynamic game statistics, such as number of people playing, victory counts, etc... New storyline pieces, too, could go in there.

    Cool, has potential.

    I'm assuming that you mean to add more NS fiction into the game itself, instead of it all just sitting on a manual somewhere. In that case, I totally agree. This type of stuff makes the any game more immersive and life-like. It's basically how games like Halo works. Halo makes good use of musical scores, cutscenes, storyline, and characters to make the single player very immersive. How would we get this kind of thing in a multiplayer game though? So far, it works fine in MMORPGs and Single Player FPS, but I've never seen this done to good effect in a Multiplayer FPS. Any ideas?

    Your PDA idea is really good. It reminds me of the old NS manual, it was full of information as well as tons of backstory. But how do we give this to the player? I'm guessing the average player could care less to actually read the manual and backstory in a PDA. There has to be a way to present it to them without relying on them to find it themselves, cause I frankly don't think the average FPS will care much for a PDA / Manual.

    Well one of the things I thought might be nice (but I dont know if its possible) is to have a custom image as the loading background for the maps. So while you wait for the map to change you get an epic looking image of the spacestation, or spaceship etc with a small story background in one of the corners. While its not *forcing* people to read it there probably isn't anything better to do so it might get a lot more people interested in the NS universe and background.

    Great idea, I was thinking of more back-story to NS for awaile but didn't give it much thought. It's back-stories that kept me interested in games like Halo and Starcraft longer than just the game itself. Though the only problem i see with this is that NS2 would take more time to be released <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />!

    Hope to see this when I buy NS2, and I'd be willing to help anyway possible <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    use the ready room for each map have a sequesnce of triggers and events to send of alarms scrolling story on said fercility

    sort of like a mission breif

    add some of the other stuff as well

    and there is already a huge pool of offical fiction on the ns web site about phase tech and galaxy factions, and also pools and polls of fan fic
