Ok, Im getting kinda annoyed, been through a lot of IRC clients and am getting no where. I need a basic client that supports/has:
- black on white text
- ability to change font/size
- DCC support
- multiple servers easily (tree window or such)
- runs on windows
- free
I can't use mirc (it just doesn't work, kills my PC). I've tried klient (glad the person who suggested that didn't tell me it was a 30 day trial, which the site basically doesn't state either). Don't want to use Gaim or Trillian.
Suggestions?

I used to use HydraIRC.

Seems to be crippled as well, maybe recode as well? Most of the options menu is gone stating "not done yet". Can't even get perform working.

According to wikipedia and my own attempts, doesn't fully work with windows yet.

TinyIRC Beta Build 1069 [54k] + The goal of this project is to create the world's smallest IRC client for Win32, with as many (if possible, all) of the features that you're used to in your current IRC client.
Dana 1.3 [121k] + Simple, skinnable IRC client
IamC 2.9.26R [198k] + Simple IRC client
xchat 1.8.5 [633k] {S} Graphical IRC client for Windows and several other OSs

I make no promises and definitely want to hear which one you like best, as I'll want it too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Tried Xchat, was alright, but had a few design issues (got picky).
Tried tinyIRC again after Monse posted it. It decided to work this time, we might have a winner. Finally. Thank you. Or not. I can't access any of the channel modes or topic in tinyIRC. And the free version doesn't support DCC. My god. How hard can this be D:
dana - bad, no tab complete, missing features
IamC - hahaha... HAHAHAHA. (it only supported one channel and could not do PM's for starters)
I never used it, but I was led to it from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_IRC_clients" target="_blank">here</a>.
Heres something: <a href="http://www.klient.com/news.php" target="_blank">klient</a>.

Good job on the reading part. Klient costs money. I was using it. 30 day trial ftl.

You could just buy Klient, worth the money for something you're going to be using every day.

Pass. Im a broke University student where $25 literally is a huge dent in my budget right now too.
And I wish I could fix mIRC. I've been trying for about 6 months now. I finally gave up. Tons of forum posting on tech forums and such and no one had any clue.
Someone mentioned xircon to me as well. I am trying it now and it's doing everything great except one small problem. The channel buttons are along the bottom, which does not work when you have an autohide taskbar. If anyone knows how to change that, I would be in the clear with it.
I dunno of any clients tbh, sorry >.>

You know, I wish there were an IRC client UI abit ala MSN/IM/bla bla..

Trillian?
I have to admit it will take a while to set up but I've been using it for 3 years and I wouldn't dream of switching to any other app. I use it mainly for AIM and MSN but its IRC support has been fine for my rare usage. Nice thing is you can get rid of anything you don't need including core protocols for other chat networks.
