Oh, and all I suggest is a nerf to JP energy usage and recharge, NOT thrust, because thrust is what makes it so much fun. Either that, or make it cost a lot more.
And in NS 1.04, it's easy to win a game as Aliens, because the Gorge gets hyper-fast res and Fades can supress Marine movement very well. Some Skulks just need to hang back and defend a hive location while the others rush endlessly. Remember, no RFK
The Fade teleport system in 1.04 was working almost perfectley, though there were a few failed attempts and I got stuck once... Oh, and I kept teleporting through the ceiling fan in Archiving when trying to save the hive ^_^
They musta updated the 1.0 downloads or something then :/ I do remember there was a version that checked for consistancy, and it came with a few models that needed to be the same. I guess you can turn it off in 1.04.

I've got instructions here to get it working perfectally, for all you who cant join.
Step 1: Download First, you have to download the 1.0 client. Its provided earlier in this thread, go ahead and look it up. (yes, you have to do some of the work)
Step 2: Install Believe it or not, you have to install it first in order for it to work, so do that now.
Step 3: Folder Name Make sure the folder's name is "ns" or else it wont work. Just rename your 2.0 folder to ns2.0 and you can switch them back and forth no problem.
Step 4: Starting.. For those of you who might still have 2.0, make sure you use the 1.04 shortcut to start the program. You obtain this from the start menu.
Step 5: Filter Filter for "ns," that should be it. Join the game.
If you still cant join, I dont know what to tell you. Thats all you have to do above.
Have fun watching your hive get JP/HMGed to death by a single marine every single round while the rest play poker on the CC... and if your not your playing crappy marines, so it doesn't matter what you do.

See? I can make pointless generalizations too.

wow... are you sad or something about your crappy marine team?
a single fade is no problem... In fact, I am quite happy with NS's state (minus the steam/map related bugs/annoyences). and if you'd played 3.0 at all (not in combat) you'd realise that the balance tips towards marines more then aliens right now. Not much... but noticeable when you have the right team.
And i notice you say "faded to death every single round" which sounds an awful lot like your speaking of combat. Combat my good friend, is nothing more then a joke to me.
And i can leap down jp/hmg like nobody's business back then. Are you sad or did you have a crappy alien team?
A single jp/hmg is no problem, Ive actually never witnessed lone jp/hmg's downing any hive.
I know the balance right now is tilted in marine's favour right now, but whenever aliens win, its due to 1 or 2 fades wrecking havoc (+ incompetent marines).
I noticed that I said that "faded to death every single round" too, which sounds like I copy and pasted what you said and replaced "jp/hmg" with "fade"....

Think about it this way, ns had its problems back in 1.0, it still got problems now. It just shifted into other places. I wont rip on 3.0 about its poor qualities, you dont shoot down 1.0x on 1 bug.
edit: Im not implying 1.04 is better, be more creative with your complaints/whines/"this sucks because..." statements.

I do think that NS 1.04 is much better than 3.0b3. A few balance variable changes (Make things take longer to get to) for a few things, bug fixes, and making Jetpacks eat through fuel somewhat faster (while still maintaing a 60fps thrust) could *probably* fix it right up.

Sorry for the double post, but I don't know how to re-insert quotes with the little labels. ^_^
So you're saying the same game 3.0 is with no electricity and hive limits for Alien lifeforms? Hmm...
Um Umbraed monkey. You do know that in a 6vs6 game of 1.04, the marines can go and hold two resource towers. then camp them. From there they will tech up to jp/hmg with armor 1. Why is this unfair you ask? Because it the time the marine's send a squad of 3 jp/hmgs, you second hive will not be built. No matter how fast your alien game is, you are just not fast enough to get that hive up before jp/hmg.
Thats how games were in clan play before. Jp/hmg the hive, or the marines lose. However, since it was so easy to get jp/hmg marines always won.
and you do know that in a game of 10v10 game of 1.04, the marines will have a hard time of holding those nodes, right?
And again, I KNOW that jp/hmgs were a problem. Even though I never saw a hive get downed by 1 jp/hmg'er, I know that a fleet of em is hell. I also disliked the fact that the game was somewhat centered around this strat. HOWEVER, jp's were not always dirt cheap in 1.0x. At one point, Flayra lowered the cost to promote its use in pubs (very very bad idea..I remember complaints about it). All that was needed was to raise its cost back to something respectable. Then you wouldnt have jp/hmg's coming to you at first hive. 95.872% of NS 1.04's problems will have been solved (seeing thats the only thing you guys can whine about ).
Was just playing today. Yeah, they need to balance the Jetpack and modify some of the damage values for the rifle. Now that people can aim, it's really unabalanced.
I say they make the Jetpack take a little tiny bit longer to get to, eat through fuel faster and remove FPS dependance (keep thrust the same). They should probably also speed up the Skulk, and make the damage values for Marine weapons a little less, since aiming = teh common, thx Combat. If not the dev team, at least a metamod plugin. Is that what they did in 1.05?
All I remembered about 1.05 is jp nerf and hive auto-umbra and umbra on spawn. If someone who actually knows better is still around, please correct me.
I dont see why the calls for nerfs on weapons and equipments and such. Why make stuff less powerful (and less fun, read: acid rocket, jp) when you can make it cost more and/or make it come later in the game? Look at what we have now, a lot of cheap, weak weapons.
I found the jp nerf plugin. But the hive umbra, and hive heal fix + leap exploit fix plugin seems to be down everywhere. I don't know where to get them as the website www.modns.org that hosted it had a wipe between 1.04 and 2.0. If u know where to find plugins for 1.04, thx for the help
In fact, i tried hive umbra at that time when i had a 1.04 server, and it was too powerful for the alien I will try to post on modNS.org asap.
