Never actually run ZA on my computer Med, had Norton Personal Firewall 2000 back in...2000 because it came free with my motherboard and that was actually pretty good, but I've become bitter and twisted after using my flatmates computer for a while before I got broadband back with her stupid copy of ZA popping up anytime I used something that wasn't IE.

    I'm using Keiro Personal Firewall.

I find it useful for my 'style' (If you had to call it something) of operating.
Yeah... I find it a lot better than stuff like Zone Alarm.

As for anything Norton produce... bleah... Yeah I install Norton AV, tell it NOT to protect my recycling bin, reboot and it's protected... clap clap.

Ah. There's an option on ZoneAlarm to allow any future access for a program to be accepted without comment. It should only ask a lot of questions within the first few days of use, while the normal programs attempt to access the Internet. After that, it's pretty quiet.

So so true it's unbelievable. I tried Norton once and I was back using AVG within the hour.

Like Gem, I pretty much weather the storm without the use of any programs. The best defense against that kind of stuff is common sense. If you don't like the source of a program, don't run the file. Keep your applications updated so you don't get hit with the latest worm and you'll be fine. The only viruses that I've gotten in the past 5 or six years have been some stupid trojans that IE's **** runs while trying to view a webpage. I figure out what I have myself and follow the manual deletion instructions so I know I got rid of everything after running HouseCall. And now I don't have to worry about those since I started running FireFox.

On a side note, the best thing that ever happened for processor companies is the hysteria that was created with Viruses and such to make the public think that we needed 24-hour protection. These programs make even our super fast computers crawl as they scan every file before it is used by any application.

I use a firewall not because of hackers, but because it's easier to regulate what programs access what and it stops those silly exploit worms. (The only time I got that Blaster thing was when I connected on a fresh reinstall of Windows to download ZoneAlarm and use Windows Update.)

After all where do you think the news that tells us virusses are on a rampage find out that kind of stuff? And who's the first lot to 'discover' virusses? ^~

As for lots of people trying to bang on your firewall, while I try not to think that the companies would program your FW to pop up false alerts to make you think it's doing something from time to time, I do lean towards the idea that people accessing your PC is 99.9% irrelevant to your life. They're probably just mis-routed connections, nosey 'hackers' (who look but don't touch) and other non-harmful nonsense that you honestly shouldn't care about. Seriously... what do you have on your PC that would be so terrible for others to see? Piccies of you dancing naked infront of a mirror with satanic symbols tatooed all over your private areas? Easy.

Because you run a business on your computer. I wouldn't like it very much if someone saw all of my personal spending records, credit card numbers, and god knows what other personal and important information.

I use a router as my firewall. Not because I'm afraid of being haxxed, but because I have 3 comps that would like to see the internet.

Also, the router is very handy because I can change my IP in under 30 seconds.

Muhahahahahah try IP banning ME, biatchchhhhh

    I use Tiny Personal Firewall.

It's pretty good once you disable all the other modules.

at home, never evvvveer had a firewall, in 5 years of operating.

Total number of Viruses: 1, Nachia.

My trick: TURN THE COMPUTER OFF WHEN YOUR NOT USING IT.

If I turn my computer off, it doesn't recognize my harddrive on next boot and I have to go in to the BIOS and use AutoDetect. (Doesn't happen on reboot, just a fresh boot.)

lol forlorn, yea businesses but I kinda made the silly assumption that people were reading this based on their personal gaming rigs =3

If you run a company then sure, whatever... it's not like you're gonna be using the net for anything interesting anyways. Course, just not connecting stuff to the net is better protection than even a firewall XD
