Stargate Vs. Farscape
Does anyone know why a deep immersive series like Farscape was cancelled while the very dull and unappetizing Stargate still lives on the Sci-Fi channel? Babylon 5 would also be a good replacement. Why is this show still on the air? I guess I just don't find an Egyptian mythology mixed with US government politics to be a very exciting or original sci-fi plot. What do you guys think?

I was VERY sad to see it go, but oh well....
If you google around you can find alot of info on farscape and why it was canned.
Oh, and I like stargate also (not as much, but I still like it)...
so *pbbbbttttt*
I understand they had to cut it, but THEY COULD OF F-ING ENDED IT ON A BETTER F-ING NOTE! %**#*%*@*%*(@*%(*@
I WANTED TO KILL EVERY SCIFI EXEC!
phew...
I think they basicaly just cut one season, mabey 2 (the plot DID have a definate ending point coming up)
On another note, does anyone remember that show "Red Dwarf"? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I reallly disliked Farscape once the extra characters came on board (such as that white skinned woman, and the old hag with the extra eye). I wasn't fond of the show before, mainly because I felt the writers purposely chose strange angles of the story merely for the sake of being strange. An alien with helium flatulence and a tongue that knocks people out?! It's one example of how the show felt purposely stupid to me.
However, I assume because I didn't faithfully follow the show, I didn't catch the deeper plot lines that ran through each episode (much as how you have missed Stargate SG-1's plot lines). It's hard to catch up on shows when episodes have been missed.
On a parting note, I do think I should add that Stargate SG-1's title theme absolutely destroys every note of the Farscape theme, with its synthesized wailing of a dying pig.
I have greatly enjoyed Stargate SG-1, however. The later seasons have gotten better, not that they were bad in the first place. One thing that always intrigued me about the series is how they've mixed it in with ancient history and cultures, which is something I've always found cool.
Yeah, someone had to bring it up <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> It's a fairly good series.
But on to the question: Why intelligent and all around good series get cancelled while those stupid series don't? Well, my theory is that crap floats.
And stupid people watch stupid series(like Starg?te) and there's too many stupid people on this god damned planet. No offense(well maybe a little) to you people who watch SG here.
2 hate Stargate
2 hate Farscape
So nine stupid people here or is dread statement is a bit incorrect
Stargate SG1 = WIN. Enough said.
Farscape was suprisingly enjoyable, considering I'm not a great fan of sci-fi shows. Great characters and surreal episodes made it really special, as well as fantastic, well-acted characters such as the superb John Crichton. It's returning for a special miniseries, which is nice. Details <a href='http://www.farscape.com/' target='_blank'>here</a>.
Stargate is extremely cheesy, but lovable. I can't take it seriously to be honest, but it's worth watching if nothing else is on.
As for The Next Generation, I'm not much of a Star Trek fan but Jean Luc Picard is one hell of a man. Much respect? Make it so.
Red Dwarf pwns all, the movie started development and rehersals but afaik it's gone on hold repeatedly what with the cast's other parts (Danny John-Jules in Blade 2, Craig Charles in Robot Wars, Chris Barrie in some car program on the discovery channel...).
So anyway Red Dwarf pwns all.
Oh, and Farscape sucks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Stargate is propably one of the best scifi series ever. I watched a few episodes of Farscape, but I just didnt like it so much. And not a long ago, they started showing Firefly, which I think is not-so-good.
I've watched a few eps of Farscape, it's kinda interesting. Could some fanboy tell me what's the name of the actressess that play the blue chick and the busty doctor? I'm lazy.
and yes, red dwarf r0x0r j00 b0x0rz!!!1!!1!1!111!!
If your wondering red dwarf has started coming out on DVD at roughly 10-18 pound a series, currently they have made upto series 4 and 5 should be out in 3/4 of the year.
As for the movie, work should begin on it later this year (least i hope so).
As for farscape it started off very well but i lost intrest with all the mind games being played in about series 3? was it with the mind probe thingy scorpius put in his brain. Then zan snuffed it and we got that new funny woman that seemed to do nothing usefull.
DS9>Stargate.
SG1 is great though. Sure it's cheesy in some places, but it's not there to be taken completely seriously. It's great what they did with such a mediocre film as a source. Love it, personally.
<a href='http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/03/22/news_6091900.html' target='_blank'>Good(?) News though...</a> the Stargate SG1 license and any futre spin off series (Including Atlantis) have been snapped up by <a href='http://www.jowood.com/' target='_blank'>JoWood Productions</a>. (The people behind S?ldner and Aquanox.)
As I've never played or even seen any of their games I can't say whether it's good or bad. But fingers crossed...
Also for Stargate fans <a href='http://www.stargatetc.com/' target='_blank'>The Stargate mod!</a> It's ok but needs work. The next patch (soon) should fix a lot of bugs and have better models.
No, stupid people watch SG. However, maybe some other people watch it too(poor sods).
But seriously though, it's pretty obvious that intelligent series get canned because they are...well...too intelligent while stupid shows packed with cliches, explosions and nekkid women are watched by millions. I mean there's nothing wrong with explosions and nekkid women but ffs, can't people watch some other shows too?
Although I watch Red Dwarf to unhealthy levels <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Sliders was nice when you got to the alternate universes and stuff...some of them were cool...no real sub-plots or love affairs or anything that really bogged it down overly much.
Stargate has pretty bad acting most of the time. They're too stone faced (espcially that gray haired guy). MST3K still owns everything that has ever been on SciFi (except maybe the 3am anime movie hour from 4 years ago).
First time I saw farscape it was half-way through the series or something and I just thought 'ick... more muppets in space'. Skip forward a few years though and I was lucky enough to catch the first ep as the series started being shown again on sci-fi and all of a sudden I was hooked. The characters make it more than anything else. They're all full of fun and quirks and interesting pasts and interests even the ship itself and the funky pilot =D
I suspect a lot of people got put off babylon 5 for the same reason; if you came in half-way through you'd miss all the build up and not know much about the characters.
Red Dwarf was great but the newer stuff just wasn't as funny for some reason until they got put in prison =P
Words cannot expression my elation at this moment.

Oh yea. Definitley my favourite universe was the one that was exactly the same as ours, but everyone had a giant sword. Thats just awsome.
