Missing Race To Upgrades Lately

1.04 style
In 1.04 it seemed the games were longer, but at the sametime more fasted paced even though the new system is suppose to make the games shorter so that in tern is suppose to make the games more fast paced. It was a heated race to jps and 2nd hive. Now the aliens are expected to get a 2nd hive up with little problems and as comm I usually dont care if they get a 2nd hive. I just worry about early fade and hope its a noob and not an elite player. In 1.04 there were multiple ways to stop the 2nd hive. You could kill the gorg since there is only 1 this was important, you can lock down the hive which was worth it by the time they had the res to build hive, or you could kill their rts. You now can only lock down the hive and you dont have a lot of res to spare to do this by the time they can put up the hive in 3.0.

Yes....every single game. Every single day. ALL THE TIME. Honestly, I really do not miss the old days.
There are lame, repetetive tactics in the game nowadays too, but it's a lot less predictable than before.
Now just unchain the upgrade chambers like it was done with the evolutions and I am happy.
3.0 is all about hte early fade, which gets old fast. There is no variety for alien tactics. Early fade is essential to victory. For marines they just need to kill early fade.

Grow some brass ones and convince your team to drop sensory in viable locations.
All I know is now the games are decided in the first few minutes, and dragged out for the next ten, and I hate it.
The only good games are when my predictions are proven wrong, or I don't have one because it's actually a close game.
All you had to go was capture 1 or 2 nozzle's, camp and upgrade.
Give out two HMG/JP's and gg.
Almost every 1.04 round ended like this unless the server banned that tactic, alien's beat back the JPs, aliens raped marines early game or the marine's were n00b's.
It almost removed all the fun of playing aliens.
HA was extremely rare back then and it was more of a sigh of relief to the alien's then the JP rush.
Fades were really interesting back then... NS seemed so more epic.. People litterally screaming over the voicecom "Jetpacks! The've got Jetpacks!". Aliens were much more focussed on attacking rather than sitting in the hive, reswhoring. Today it allmost seems as if both sides avoid eachother, each trying to take as large a portion of the map is possible, only confronting the other side when empty res nodes run out.
I'm probably really wrong on that. T'has been a while since I played... but I know my memories of 1.04 were better than those of the latest patches.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

Kind of like 3.0!
Well, not jetpacks, but its a race to Hive 2, hive 2= gg unless the aliens are really dumb or something.

I have to disagree with you, 1.04 was decided in the first minutes. 2 hive lockdown? GG Aliens (against an equal / better team). All they could do is to wait for the jpler(s) with hmg ..
Now you still can win if you lose the first rounds, a (building / second) hive, or some rts. Yes it's hard, but hey, the marines managed to kill / fight the kharaa off, they deserve it
1) Check if there are Fades at 5 minutes
2) Check if the Fades are getting a lot of kills.
If yes to both, then marines loose.

Uhm, that's like saying:
1) Check if there's an arms lab / adv. armory
2) Check if the marines can aim
If yes to both, then aliens lose.
Anyhow in my opinion the games are too centered towards a few players when coming to khaara. If the khaara have 2 very good fades, chances are the marines are wasted. However if one of these fades make a mistake and dies the game is immeadietly tilted towards the marine side. I still hold on to my idea to make all high-tech classes cheaper and lower their efficienty just as how it's in StarCraft for example.

Do you know what, I kinda agree with you. Its not the same now, you dont get the screaming down the mic as you put it.
Now its more like, oh they've got a PG in cargo - nevermind ill just go onos and clear it.
Saying that I dont miss the days of the JP rush or 2 hive lockdown.
But what I will say is the new versions have put all the emphasis on res and res towers. Res towers in the newer versions are the most important things in the game, by far. Back in 1.04, it was take the hive! Now its take the res!
But you dont lose the game if you lose a few RTs, where as before if you controlled 2 hives you won. So it was so much more important taking hives, you did get that feeling of desperation, which you simply dont get anymore.
And the fight against 2 hive lockdowns were quite fun. The low tech aliens vs the res poor marines (all res went towards holding the hives) made some pretty tight matchs.
JPs, yes, were a problem.
I stopped playing around the time 2.0 came out (not because 2.0, but some personal stuff, moving, school, girl you know)
Now I started playing again, and I really miss the tension and the desperate fights that you used to have in 1.04
Where 1 marine could actually tilt the game by sneaking through the defense and drawing their attention....
Or when marines get really low on res, lose the last hive and have 1 jp sitting near hive 1 (usually low on defense) building a pg/tf.
Those where the days of the epic games.....
Oh well.... to bad there r no 1.04 servers around anymore...
I wish there were
