<div class="IPBDescription">Overlooked</div> NS has been out a long time. And yet, welders (one of the most useful marine tools by far) are still widely shunned.
<u>1. Medpacks aren't so great.</u>
Oh, sure, they think they're <i>soooooo </i>classy with their 2 res cost and ability to drop mostly anywhere. Well, I got news for you, <span style='color:white'>Be nice.</span>; you can only bring a marine up to 100 hp. If he has no armour, he'll still die in two bites. If the marine's on 25 hp, he'll still die from one bite even after recieving a single medpack.
Although they'll never admit it, medpacks need a welder to make a marine withstand 3 or 4 hits once again. And welders can be reused. <i>That's </i>usefulness. <i>That's </i>awesome. <i>That's</i>.....<b>the welder</b>.
<u>2. Buildings aren't the only benefactors from a welder!</u>
Sure, it fixes them up reeeeeal purty-like (something a <i>med-pack </i>won't do, I might add). Use them to repair your buddies, too! Come on, coms: they only cost 5 res! And as for combat, it's one upgrade level that will make you the most popular human on the server!
<u>3. Don't neglect your welder!</u>
Often, the com will drop one single, measly welder. The Law of Welders dictates that "<i>the one person most likely to not use the welder will be the one to pick it up, hoping it's a shotgun</i>". <b>Don't be that chump</b>! Welders are like precious children; they need love, attention and nanites to become useful in any way!
<u>4.</u> <span style='color:blue'>shiny</span>
<u>5. Don't abuse your welder!</u>
This is most often the case with HA trains. The marvellous powers of the welders is addictive; if one HA gets his welder out, everyone else will follow suit, in a beautiful orgy of weldering. However, despite their winsome ways, welders are not good as an offensive tool. Please use your welder correctly, and don't let it be tarnished by the blood of welder-ecstacied fools.
Spread the word! Make people aware of the welder's potential! Make coms aware of its joys! Stick a [Welderer] tag onto your name, and show that you (yes, <i>you</i>) are a great person.

is true though - i love welding marines, and i love it even more when marines weld you.. is such a good feeling going from damaged from battle back to being as good as you were when you spawned
And if there was some way to tell whether a marine had a welder on him other than when he's using it, maybe people could ask that marine for welding if he isn't doing his job.
And it would help if those marines had a quick way to say, "Weld me!" other than by typing it out (ignored or lost among spam) or using the mic (ignored or indecipherable).
So, yeah. Devs, coms, grunts...welcome the welder into your hearts.
This has been said before, I'm quoting this :" If you have a welder on your hands, there is no reason why all Marines around you shouldn't have 100% armor all the time."
An unused welder is a wasted welder.
perhaps we need a little bit more bling bling on the welder <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Aye, now if only welder's removed parasite too...fresh marines... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Yeha welders are very overlooked sadly enough, I usually pick one when I have 1 cO point left... I pick the shiny... my shiny... MY SHINY
When I've got a welder: weldings all around. I rarely comm though, so I can't really say much for dropping them often (I usually only see 2 or 3 dropped until HA comes along).
You also forgot that they can block off important parts of levels, which can be very important (like the vent in reactor room, or the vent in sewer, or the one leading to base (hey...I actually remember that one's map name, ns_eclipse! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->).
[...pffft, names are so hard to match with maps <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ]
Welder ?ber alles!
...or something.
Maybe the parasite isn't in the marine, but in the armor? A tiny blob of bacteria between the layers of nano-kevlar, flamed out when welder fixes it?
"Do you need welding now? Do you need welding now? Do you need welding now? How about now? Do you need welding now? Now? Do you need welding now? What about now? Do you need welding now?"

Nope, it's gotta be <i>in</i> the marine. Look at the "Parasite-kill" icon... The critter actually <i>enters</i> the skull of its victim.

I love weld-shutting vents!
give one or two welders and one or two shot guns at the very beggining, send everyone in a group to get res points, soon pwn the aliens <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm a bit weary of welding any old vent these days, you never know if they might be handy for jetpackers.
I have a welder story to share.
ns_tanith. Blueblurr (let's play some tetris mother@#$%er!) is clamoring for a welder and our nice comm drops one. He runs out to weld everything on the map, and I follow. We locked down Satcomm and Cargo, killing about 20 skulks in the process, all because of our wonderful welder. Skulk dies, weld up. We switched it back and forth and kept each other at full armor. Blue eventually got raped in double by a bunch of OCs and a tricky little skulk, but such was our love for the welder that I dashed back in, killed a Gorge, hopped over the OCs, and made my way out with just TWO hp and boogied back to base.
The welder is awesome. Remember to use the buddy system with it!
