I wish I had Photoshop so I could play too. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
A note: Don't add the starfield. It's the background, so you should be making that first. I could be wrong, because PS might work in such a way that it's much better to do it the other way around, but I'm guessing it'll look more natural if you do it that way. Once you've done that, you can black out or dim some of the area directly around the planet, since it's brighter than the stars, and for the really big, bright ones that end up sitting on the edge of your planet, you could tinker around with some effects that might look like light-bending, ie, coronas, rays, whatever, so that it has all those neat effects a rising sun seen from space does in the movies.

Okay, Sonic. Alt+Click does not draw it, it just defines a point to start cloning. Try this: Alt + Click somewhere in the middle of the page of a different image (star one can be too confusing). Then, move to a completely different area of the picture, and start drawing. That's how the clone stamp works.
has anyone tried this with photoshop 8 (CS)? it won't let me use some filters at the "spherize" stage (including the spherize one) and the pattern looks different on my attempt. hm.

A little intro here: The planet earth there is the first experiment with the tutorial, the rest were quick stir-ups and the "sun" is just some old method I used a while back ago. The planet behind the sun is supposed to look like that, it's called Artists licence <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> I imagine that when sun explodes, it creates black hole-ish powers and succumbs other planets closer to it, making them collapse from the negative powers. So there, 'nuff said, my piece of work:
Ooh, pretty planet in the bottom left. You're wrong about stuff being sucked into the sun, but it still looks cool <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I'm surprised we havent been Phased into the Art section yet....
and TychoCelchuuu, it's supposed to look liek that <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
...these are freakin spectacular. However, a nice Max bumpmapped planet can pwn most of them <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
One thing though, the planets in UT2k4 kick all of your ****. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Gasp. Oh noes.
Planet alone = win.
Starfield alone = win.
Put your planet on these starfields = looks like complete ****.
