A suggestion for alien textures

Hi, it's me... dunno if anyone remembers me since I last showed up about 4 months ago, but anyways. Been watching the site and forums silently since then, but now I've decided to say something. Every mapper I know has been slightly frustrated at some time or another by the lack of alien textures, and I've come up with a simple idea, that may or may not work. My suggestion was to release a .psd of the alien texture itself, only ooze etc that goes on the walls, and have it on a clear background. Make 3-5 different patterns, with low-high amounts of ooze, and release them like this. This way any Photoshop proficient person can put them over the old texture, maybe add a little color/blending, and have their own alien texture in just seconds! Patterns might get a bit repetitive, however with at least a few different versions things wouldn't be too bad if a mapper worked at it. Anyways, that's my suggestion, hope yo like it

There was one of these floating around for a while, and I had a copy of it for a bit. The problem was the ooze had a very small fade into the blue background, and it was hard to get the transparent edges to not show up, but still keep the alien texture not looking jagged around the outside.

Right-o. I've alerted Cory to this thread, I hope he has the .psds around that he release again. Maybe if he doesn't have time to clean them up, someone else here could?

    Thanks.

That crate can be found in NS-ChromeAngel.WAD in the NS_NEXT Installation along with about ten other infested textures. I'm suprised no one else has had a nose in there already...

I have given out several PSD's already of the textures. I can't remember who all has them but I'm pretty sure Yamazaki was one of the people I sent them to. If he or anyone else could post these that would be better, since it may be a while since I get a chance to get on my home computer and put those textures up.

I have two 256x256 PSD susing the same pattern of alien goop that is on two of the labwall ns.wad textures. I've found it very useful so far since the alien goop is a seperate layer that can be placed on anything. Only problem is that it gets repetitive over time. Cory also sent me another version of one of these PSDs, except it had half a dozen layers that made up the alien goop, so you can see how it was created in the first place.

I'll try and get someone to host it for me, since it will never fit under the 71k size limit.

Send them to me Yama, I'll included them in the next release and post them here for you. Thanks.

yes, cliff did some nice work on those alien textures. i then set them as a func_wall, solid, 255, then layer (thinly) over other walls. you can change the amount, direction, size, etc. to give a very wide range of alien-material-covered-stuff.

Yes I was thinking something more along the lines of a .psd than an actual func_wall in front of every wall... god knows we need to conserve those for the ceiling

A psd would look far more natural on the walls, but like Yaka said we don't want to have 12 layers so everyone knows how it was done ... just layer them all into one maybe, anyways, glad this got some response

Why? It's not like its a trade secret, or does some one hold a patent on the alien texture? As long as the textures don't go outside the NS mod without permission, I don't see why the orginal psd shouldn't be put up. Of course I may be very wrong about this.

You do know NS no longer requires the ceilings to be entities don't you?
