<div class="IPBDescription">reminds me of the good old days</div> I was just playing in an in clan scrim with my clanmates and we played a game that lasted over 2 hours on Bast. It was the funnest game since 1.04. The aliens rushed the marine base with 6 onos, took out most of the base, but then 2 marines with HMG's and Jetpacks came out of no-where and took out all the onii who were at low health and didn't bother to go regenerate because the marines had no armory, arms lab, protolab, observatory, or IP. This happened 3 more times and 8 hives were build in the span of this game. After playing this game it just made me miss 1.04 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Anyone have any games from the new version that reminded them of the good ol' days?

But... Don't expect it to happen again, especially as your clan and you start to develop strategies and your own individual skill. High level clan matches are won minutes into the game. Two hour matches may be great, but they just don't happen in most games.
For many, this is the fundamental flaw with Natural-Selection. The victors are decided minutes in and the end of the game comes much later. There is a lull of 10 minutes or so where the winning side finishes off the losers. It is a matter of the slippery slope gone horribly horribly wrong.
However, the recent balance changes have NOT been conducive towards longer, more strategy based games. The team themselves said when going from 1.04 => 2.00 that they were aiming at making the games shorter.
Hopefully, now that those of us with a 20 second attention span can go play combat, they will focus upon making NS_classic a more stragetic game, that take a longer time to complete with the ability to make comebacks. It will bring back that raging battle feeling rather than a brief skirmish that was over in the first 3 minutes anyway.
Yeah but they where aiming at compressing the dead time and have a shorter more fun packed game. Not just shorter rounds and a little more strategic depth.

don't kid yourself, the only strategy that ns requires is mostly scouting and res node placement. ns is not the complex game that half of this fourm ditches it up to be. i did not realize that strategy involves ridiciously long stalemates caused by teams that are too inept to finish a game. the only people that miss the "epics" of 1.04 are the ones entertained by constant suicides into a "raging battle" between turret farms and dumb aliens.
90% of all games are something like 10 to 20 minutes.
tbh long games arent happening much because the teams know how to win effective and fast. Most ppl are much more experienced now aswell.
I was commanding, the marines were out rushing a hive whne 4 onos rushed in and killed the IP and the Obs. I had all my rines rush to the hive we had control of and we relocated. Took over an hour for the aliens to finally get us.
I don't know what servers you were playing on in 1.04, but in my many experiences playing that beta the epics were exactly that: epics. There was changeover constantly, wonderful relocations, and battles for every section of map. Res nodes were important, but certainly not even close to how important they are now. Hives were what mattered, and the intensity of battles over hives was amazing. There is really nothing more incredible than a great commander and a smart team mate that makes the last ditch relocation and subsequent win of the marines the best feeling of the week.
TF's were important in 1.04, since the main marine strategy was offense through defense until the JP/HMG rush took over.
Generally when I play on pubs the teams are stacked, meaning 11 guys with icons on the marine team against 11 people on aliens, half of which have the name NSPlayer. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Sadly the more you play the less exciting the game is, we need more atmospheric maps like bast and less clan type ones like eclipse and veil.
Can the devs please release a version which is 1.04 but with the new bug fixes, com interface etc? Jps should be kept as is, but how about a Prototype lab upgrade on the arms lab? More interesting than on the armory as you never see HA without HMG nowadays.
