I just started meshing, but I would like to take a whack at it, maybe it will turn out good. If you wanna PM me the file. I know I dont got the skill you have at doing it though.
Redid the whole model...its sub 2000 at the moment (but only by about 50 polys). Optimize the model next, its got lots of inefficient spots and things that should be welded and faces that can be deleted cos they can't be seen.
reflective floor! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> g1 lol. Nice model though, hope to see it finished
its 1938...still gotta finish mag so it looks cool and whack trigger on it (only a few polys). Plus cos i used a symmetry map...its got a huge line down the middle which can dissapear and save a few polys...and sum hidden faces...should drop below 2000 again to please those of u unwilling do bend on the polygon issue.
I THINK you could do the ammo counter on the gun... it'd have to be it's own separate model tho (which would be hard as HELL to co-ordinate) and you'd need one for every number... I'd make it a hologram-ish thing... if anything...
is that PC optimized ? D: b/c that is a damn sexy model <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Thats a very very nice model. With GMAX, i suggest you get the SMD Importer, Do a search on google. You need milkshape aswell.
What you do is upload the model into milk shake, using the decompile HL MDL tool. Make sure the model you are using is in a seprate folder. Don't untick any the boxes after chosing your model. Let it go and close down milkshape.
Look in your folder with the model in it. There will be lots of files in it.
Load up GMAX, and use the readme in how to import SMD files (I Have 3DS MAX 6, So i don't know how it works for GMAX)
Load the file that has the orginal name, like pistol, something like that. It will most lilely have a .ref on the end, so use that.
Gawd, this model is so gorgeous, i dare say it could almost be an "upgradable gun" in the game, instead of upgrading to a whole new gun, you shoot a new round or such.... soo pretty... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Udder, since the model is complete I need you to send it to me some way. Post it on the forums, send it to me via AIM, or email it to me at: ignoranceisfun@yahoo.com
nice model udder, if it need a skin at some point, please send it my way <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
but as for now, let's find a mesh for this babeh... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I'm pretty sure this is the final file, everything appears to be complete, but if there is anything i missed, don't hesitate to PM or whack a message on this thread about problems.

But meh:
edit* polycount udder?
prolly wouldn't be worth it tho
and JLP, the ammo counter on the gun has been discussed many times. not gonna happen.
Well, since the active ammo counter isnt going to work, a static hud could still be stuck on the side of the gun.
*reference for skinner*
I think this is about as much detail as I dare add, I haven't checked the poly count, but no doubt its quite high.
Should a new thread be started to search for a someone to do the UV Map and Skin it?

Very nice model.
But it'd look mighty good as an lmg too, whatever the person animating it wants, really. (No shotgun, no GL though.)
In fact, now that I see it, I think it would look best as an LMG.
