Just posted at the Steam boards...let them fight about it over there.

It's great news, but this isn't the full game that's pre-loading, as Gabe says. It's not quite gold yet, but it's getting there.

I agree, lets hope it doesn't get delayed.
I'm going to drop my my local LAN Cafe

it because when I said "do you have Natural-Selection?"

Well, check the list.

If your local place is on there, then they'll have it.

What? It's not going to be a full release? Doesn't this just give time to those who will crack it open?

The CZ and CS:Source .gcfs can be viewed but not altered or ran, and I doubt the HL2 ones will be any different.

Can't wait till it preloads for ati coupon. I don't even really like counter-strike. It will still be fun as a HL2 multiplayer demo.

Hope its optional.

I mean it kinda ruins the suspense if you go to the store and buy HL2 and take out the CDs and its already on your drive...

I wonder how will HL2 retail and steam will co-exist... After all if it installs to \program files\valve\steam 95% of everyone who buys it will go "WTH?"

This is a little bit off topic but I heard that HL2 will be six CD's, or you can get a special DVD install version that is only two CD's. Sounds like a big game...

If you think HL2 won't be on any retail shelves, you're sadly mistaken. If HL2 were to be steam only it would be a tremendous financial flop.

no no Im just saying that its sort of pointless to even buy the CDs. I got condition zero and realized the discs were useless. I installed, then steam deleted the directory and just downloaded the whole game :| (I prefer to go to the store with anticipation and sniff the cds and manual but its just getting out of date almost)

so go to the store and sniff the cds while it preloads

The reason you get the CDs is so that way when steam is shut down 10 years from now and you go "gosh i wanna play half-life 2" you can.

Duke nukem forever? This is only 10 years in the future we're talking about. By then, they may have decided that it will *gasp* be an FPS. Possibly with guns. And they MIGHT make the first name of the main character "Duke". The "Nukem" will take a few more years however.

As for HL2, sweeeeet.
/me hugs ATI key

It would also GREATLY help to not have to download that much information. Here at college we can only download 1.5GB per week. I'd have to span the HL2 download over two weeks.
