people are so crazy with these FF 'challenges' that I can't even comprehend it. these people are trying to get to level 99 in the first reactor in FF7. they estimated it will take about 500 hours; some people have already put in 300 or 400 hours. it just boggles my mind - how could that possibly be fun... I started another thread recently about how I rarely even FINISH the games I play; meanwhile some people play these games so far into the ground, they go through the core of the earth and out the other side...
thoughts? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yikes.
PS: I'd like to see their reaction to someone mentioning that "It's just a game".
A piercing wail and the sound of a knife being driven into a nerdy heart.
Christ
Words cannot express how pathetic these people are who have absolutely NOTHING BETTER TO DO!
However, 400-500 hours on a single game? I wish I had time to waste like that.
... maybe I do. I do plan on getting WoW when it comes out <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It's just something fun to do when you've beaten the game but you don't feel that you've utterly dominated every enemy in it.
Although I was around 12 years old at the time so......
k, I must be having gaming amnesia but... What sort of game is X-Com?
Agreed. To waste you're life on this, you must be A) Mentally Insane, B)Allergic to sunlight, C) High/Stoned D) Anti-Social, or E) All of the Above.
GameShark, couple button presses, same effect. 1/10000000000000000'th as much time.
I have no clue how FFVII's supposed to be fun.... I mean...

That is nuts, because it's entertaining and takes skill.
Me and my friend did something like this in Kingdom Hearts when we first played. At the begining of the game, when the first of the Heartless appear on Destiny Islands, we kept killing all of them, entering the save hut and coming back out so they'd respawn. Got o LVL 15 before seeing anything else of the game. I think it took an hour.
p.s. i'm trying this as soon as I reinstall FF7, any other takers?
heh, I did the same thing. Except instead of killing the heartless I just beat down all of his friends in the wooden sword fights.
Use up the Rookies.... their dead cost nothing.

you can only send 12 guys on any given mission (at least before you get the avenger). <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Because
A) Not everyone's competitive material
B) Not everyone likes Counter-Strike
C) Not everyone likes PC gaming
:X
They've decided to do something, making fun of them or suggesting something else they can do is probably not going to stop them, especially here.
Why not make fun of the person who sat on a see-saw for thirty-something hours (I believe that's the record).

I'd try it, but get bored within an hour or so saying "so, what else could i do today?"
Still, stop the flaming of these guys, if they have the passion to focus on one game, one area, for weeks, then i'd at least give their persistance and passion some credit.
my original post was not meant to flame these guys -- I just simply and literally can't fathom being able to put that much time into one small area of one game. I get bored soo easily. can you imagine listening to that same music for 500 hours? seeing those same 3 or so enemy types on screen 30,000 times, or however many it works out to be? it's true, they deserve kudos for ther perseverence -- they'll probably get farther in life than myself, I can't stick to anything, for better or for worse. :>
Actually, it's a big problem-solving thing, which is fun. Figuring out how to exploit/break a game system can put a few hours of extra fun into a game after you've played it out the way it was intended.
Running in circles and hitting a button thousands of times, on the other hand, is not enjoyable by any standards. I would almost rather watch TV.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT I COULD DO WITH 0.0000571 MILLENNIUMS!?!??!
Well I'm sure a lot of things, but it sure as hell wouldn't be spending my time on the first reactor of FF7.
For deus ex: the complete nonviolence challenge. The basis is simple. From the very start of Deus Ex to the ending, you are not allowed to damage any enemy in the game. Ever. The only people who you may kill are the ones you are forced to kill to advance. Notably the guy in the reactor messing with the nuke and the one lady agent. Every other enemy in the game can be avoided instead of killed. You are not allowed to damage ANYTHING. This means you can not hurt people or machines, either by yourself or by proxy. You may use security to SHUT DOWN robots, but you can not make them attack enemies, as that would be by proxy. Ditto with sentry guns. You can fool enemys into killing themselves if applicable, but you otherwise can not harm anyone. This means you can NOT use any gun, the shock prod (does damage, forces enemy into being knocked out.) the crossbow (ditto) or ANY melee weapon (duh). You may harm non-living non-robotic things, like crates and doors, and carry weapons and ammo for this purpose. You may use the two weapons that incapitate while doing zero damage - the pepper spray (does no damage, just stuns), and the gas grenade (same as pepper spray over a radius). Because you can not kill ANYONE by-proxy, there is only one ending you can take that involves killing no-one. You are expected to take this ending.

I would but I need to go to college, work, and maintain somewhat of a sociallife
