Are you nuts? For skulk, leap is halved in usefulness as soon as marines reach level 3, because by then some marines will have shotguns. And if they are any good, you are dead if you try a frontal attack. Unlike when they have LMGs.
And that is precisely why you don't Leap from the front.
Rather, you Leap from the flank or the rear, so as to reduce the time in which they can hear you approach. Then, if you want to escape, you Leap-spam your way to freedom. However, you can live without for a bit.

leap is not a necessity any time, u can always live without it and progress to higher lifeforms/use other upgrades instead.
u can survive easily enough in co with celerity and also with silence..well i seem to be able to anyway.
only time I get 2nd hive ability is if I plan to stay gorge or if its a 10+ lvl server. And even 10+ I wont get it till around 8-12 usually. At least I get it before cloak. Cloak abuse is just dishonorable to me. Even Predators turn it off to engage in combat.
I actually enjoy cloaking first. Provided I can get that first level before I die, the early cloaking normally lets me get 2 more really quite quickly. I will typically get focus at level 3.
Donno why but i love those guys that cloak and get focus. Not the ones that sit in your path as you walk down the hall, but the ones that are after me as a jper. They sit in a low doorway halfway up. They just chomp once as i go past, (jps generally get hit once by something or anothing lateish game) and i go down wondering what i was doing. The same guys get me every time. Gota laugh... donno why

a focus skulk would be first in the score board early in the game, but once the armor 1 comes in and then the almighty shotgun, any skulk can die in one blast (not to mention jps or heavies).

Silence, or simply running past them to their unprepared teammates... celerity. Even late game when the entire marine team is heavies, a good focus skulk can rake in the kills, simply because with celerity and focus, between bites you can get a hit-and-run thing going, so if there is anyone else nearby, the heavy will eaither think he killed you or will simply focus on other things, allowing you to get in more bites.

Cloak first, shortly followed by focus. For the first 5 mins of combat im alwalys ahead of the scroe board by a mile. Then, depending on if i meet rines who have already lost armour I can keep up the high scoring. Usally I'm able to dominate the early stages so much that I can get to cara onos fast, but not alwalys.
This is what works best for me since im such a poor fade.

dont you guys get bored of this topic? There are hundret of different threads with this name. Now guess what... YES! Exactly...nearly noone will care about the order of upgrades you are wrtining here! Because everyone uses his own skill-tree...and not yours...and of course it also depends on the game! So...could anyone explain to me why these threads keep coming and coming?

Just flew in instantly, bite, out, back in. like a bad movie.

1. scent of fear: so i see them first.
2. silence: so it takes them a moment to realize im eating them.
3. cloaking: so i have more ambush options and dont have to hide.
after that i bulk up with carapace, regen, then I finish off with celerity.
at this point i frequent dark, quiet hallways looking for solo rambos.
after munching a few rambos i finally get leap and xeno.
i ignore focus, redemption, and adrenaline.

sounds are like 60% of co_ and you can allso clear a group of 4 rines if they are not watching their backs.... with lvl2 skulk!
