The Big Question
Many times I find myself in a situation when I can go Onos and but there are only 3 people on the marine team. In such a case don't go Onos, I find it to be unbalanced and not a very fun game. Im just curious as to when everyone else goes onos?
I usually start going onos when there are at least 6 marines and only if there are no other onoses. If there are less marines I don't go onos.

If those are not true, Onos is a waste of res (at least for me).
2+ oni: 6+ marines, defensive upgrades.
As for when to go onos, going onos with one hive should be a last resort, in a somewhat decent game, of 6vs6 or more, you probably shouldn't go onos until hive 2, so you can actually escape the marines if they choose to hunt you down with extreme prejudice. You probably should go ahead and hang onto that res if there is no immediate need to go onos, such as heavies running around the map, or the hive is about to get attacked. By about to get attacked I don't mean the marines are already set up and about to scan the hive to siege, that is pretty much too late, the hive could be down by the time you finish gestating.
ummm.... your making onos sound like its really good , and ummm thats kinda total CRAP the onos sucks I don't see why you'd ever go onos unless you had res bursting at the seems

:(
...
Get Onos just before the second hive. Stomp makes onos pretty good.
:I
I don't really care if its "lame" because the marines won't really care if I think their JP/Shotty/Resupply is "lame" because noone else on the team can help kill a JPer.
Go Onos, spam stomp or devour them, kick over their CC, and if they whine then just laugh. It IS Combat after all.
Edit - hahaha I haxored my typo.
Actually, since this is a discussion of fair playstyles, not strategies, I don't see why I should move it.
Aside from that Onos when you get the res as long as there are D chambers around.
When a few more people maybe 5-7 per team, more fadeage, but leave myself prepared to go onos.
If bored or I see HA, onos ahoy.
I just dont like onos much because slow and not that manueverable.
...
wait i lied i go fade instead.

You will never win a marine combat game with a competent onos. I'll be happy to go in server and show how this is done.

A game less than 5v5 going onos is just cruel, unless of course the marines are near-perfect shots, then it is acceptible to gesterate to the bullet magnet so the rest of your team can end the match.
Right now the Onos is too weak to consiter the end-all be-all as it use to be and should be used more as a cleaning crew to pick up the pieces of a fade-raid.

You never need those dcs as an onos, that is if you know how to use devor well enough. I prefer the SC and MC system over the DC/MC rush (with SC and MC: silence and cloaking=yummy marines)
Oh well it's kind of a play preferance.
(Note* I have seen some pretty good 1 hive onos players but in most cases it's already to late for the onos to save the match)

agreed.
jojoshua, you got the one of most impressive avatar i`ve seen for a while!
pray tell, what is the difference between a "playstyle" and a "strategy"?
