But asside from that, the rumours i have heared, and from what i have read, and seen it looks to me like they are going to be using a variant of cheezys system...

Well lately I have a preference for CO because I play at work or at home where im constantly interrupted. So sux to spend 50 on fade, have to leave for a sec, and come back as a dead skulk. Plus I get more playtime as the higher lifeforms. But Im uncertain about the respawns. There has to be a mix. Cheesys is ok, but I despise how if Im leading a rush in the beginning and im first to get killed, Cheesys says 5 secs, then everyone dies behind me, +2...+2...+2... Until the whole team is dead and im still waiting already 30 secs where the standard respawn would have spat me out sooner. I guess dont add spawn times onto individuals. If you died and 3rd in queue and says 9 secs, leave it. 2 sec spaces on spawns isnt too vicious.
Well if u ever played ET.... that kinda spawn system could work... but still not as great... cheesys is better... i think cheesys is as close as we can get to a good respawn system... either way u end up waiting... thats just part of the game.... i think u end up waiting more tho with the current respawn system then the new system.. cause think about it... say u die... and u got to wait for those other 10 ppl to respawn... so u wait... and as soon as u spawn u happen to get spawn killed... so u got to wait for another 10 spawns til u can again..

How about 2 gorges continously webs the last marine standing; while the rest of the team destroys the CC or just chuckle around to annoy marines to death ... It sure needs a timelimit for rounds just like CS...
and it will be juicy if you prepare some nuke/disarm maps... We already got spores; so no need to integrate a smoke bomb... just make spores less transparent... Finally the perfect finish will be selectable marine models... ohh I forget; instead of marines give riot shield to poor gorges...

Cheesy's is absolute <span style='color:orange'>dodge this</span>, only favored by inexperienced or poorly skilled players. Newbies need to learn when it's ok to die and when not to. So many people run around and get killed when your team can't afford it.
Cheesy's encourages this noobery by making people think it's ok to die because you will all come back in less than 13 seconds. Servers with this crap plugin usually have 60 minute time limit abominations and produce stalemates even with 5 onos on a team.
I have better points to bring up but seeing people defend wavespawn makes me so angry that I can type no more.
skifly, Cheesy's is for people who would rather have fun with combat than play a serious game. Personally I refuse to play combat except to fill up a server for NS, and even then I couldn't care less about the outcome; I'd rather be entertained for 10-15 minutes than play a serious match.

So if everyone dies, that means:
I wait aproxx. just as long to get out of the spawn que, in fact if you are the only one who dies then you wait even longer than normal and on top of that the game is probably never going to end as 10 skulks spawn awash over 3 marines and eat them alive.

As for the 'wave' spawn plugins. I think the point that people find fun in wave spawn is that you stand a chance in the hive-camp point, because there's enough of you that you become a harder target (the wonders of target indecision, a documented phenemon that occurs in both real life as well as gaming).

Sorry wasn't ignoring your post, because it's a valid question... (RL = busy atm)
A) I was neither a PT or a dev when this happened so I can't answer that necessarily.
B) That release happened before the new crop of PT's came into the game, so I don't know exactly what testing went into 4 or 4a.
C) Also, what I can say is Flayra makes all those types of decisions, and he had a goal in mind with combat of very quick games, I think he might have felt at the time that this was the best way to achieve this.
Hope that clarifies a bit, but that's all the information I have on this topic.
Without spawn-camping, I think the method in 4a works well. Unfortunately, the amount of people that can spawn-camp effectively is so high that it just doesn't matter. We playtested a fair amount and never saw this problem until it was released for a bit. But asside from that, the rumours i have heared, and from what i have read, and seen it looks to me like they are going to be using a variant of cheezys system...
or somthing thats at-least based on it... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
But either way... its what it needs..
But it stops the PURE EVIL OF SPAWN CAMPING, so it must be good, right?
And I will admit there are some VERY NICE changes coming to combat respawn, as well as a new tweak to combat gameplay both for B5. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm going to try to write the following as carefully as possible (I do want to keep my job and keep things a surprize for you guys):
I wasn't able to attend last night's playtest myself, but post-playtest forum posts in the PT forums have been...very approving of...umm..."certain aspect(s)" of the CO games they'd played. And by "very approving" I mean "I really hope I don't have to miss the next PT for similar reasons."
I know this doesn't tell you anything, but it's the most I can say <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
To add as much as <b>I'm</b> allowed to that....
*points & laughs @ Marik for missing it*

People join teams, proceed to countdown, and round starts as it does now. Then, there will inevitably be skirmishes, and both sides will take casualties. However, <b>nobody</b> will respawn until one of the teams has been completely eliminated. A voice will then say "Frontiersmen/Kharaa win", accompanied with similar text in the middle of the screen. Then, everybody on both teams will be respawned, receive an experience bonus depending on the outcome of the last round, and be able to 'buy' upgrades as deemed neccessary. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I do think and hope; Verthandi is just trolling... or maybe not?.. God help us...

Are those the same changes Forlorn presented to Flay at the CPL?
Newbies need to learn when it's ok to die and when not to. So many people run around and get killed when your team can't afford it.
Cheesy's encourages this noobery by making people think it's ok to die because you will all come back in less than 13 seconds. Servers with this crap plugin usually have 60 minute time limit abominations and produce stalemates even with 5 onos on a team.
I have better points to bring up but seeing people defend wavespawn makes me so angry that I can type no more.

So you can go through an entire match of Combat without ever dying unintentionally? Every time? Against every other person who plays NS?
I applaud your skill.

He is 100% correct, but there are other problems with the mass wave spawn as well.

Play on an 11 v 11 server. Without Cheesy's respawn (which in all honestly I don't like that much) it's hell. 3 of you die and it takes forever to respawn. Xenocide is totally out of the question unless your alien team is 100% going to win.
Cheesy's respawn made games bearable. 6v6 cheesy's plug in is useless, but 11 v 11, I'm happy for it.

Not really, in fact for PUB games aliens win most of the time anyways, on predatorial-selection servers aliens win in a 10v10 setting all the time without cheesy's respawn system.
Also, cheesy's respawn does not make it faster to respawn. All it does is take the spawn ques, add them up, and spit everyone out together at once.
So if everyone dies, that means:
I wait aproxx. just as long to get out of the spawn que, in fact if you are the only one who dies then you wait even longer than normal and on top of that the game is probably never going to end as 10 skulks spawn awash over 3 marines and eat them alive.
Silicon - This is an opinion that has been given quite a bit from the 'new wave' of PT's, and I hope to continue to be one of them.
Some of us remember NS as the 'primary' gamemode. Whilst this has faded with time (CO & NS Seem pretty much equal these days in amount of playtime they see, hell CO might have more) And whether the Developer group agree, we'll continue to hope to see more of it.
[c]oma : Hurray for your Avatar.
As for the 'wave' spawn plugins. I think the point that people find fun in wave spawn is that you stand a chance in the hive-camp point, because there's enough of you that you become a harder target (the wonders of target indecision, a documented phenemon that occurs in both real life as well as gaming).

I was at the PT (as was Flayra for those who say he never participates) and there were 16+ players going at once in combat, and it was much fun.. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Zunni can you answer my post ^^ up there plz?
But my point still exists Zunni.
If the PT's said "This respawn System simply isn't working, i don't think that it's going to be a very good feature to implement into beta 4 (4a? when was it added?) Why the hell did the Devs add it?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You'll find out all the details on the new spawn system, along with everything else that will be in beta 5 very shortly. Very. Shortly.
