Bring back two things:

1) babblers... why not :-p haha
2) nuke. everyone is happy when EVERYTHING just goes boom.

No but seriously, I wanted to make this topic to just talk about things that you miss from the older versions of NS, and the things you are glad are GONE.

I know I'll miss the TRUE permagorge from days past. I remember when I would go gorge, and it was like being the comm for the alien team. I'd have a skulk patrol that would protect me, and I would be the god of aliens lol. That was good times.

    well the babblers probably would never be brought back because of their buggyness (they basically use hacked up snarks code) unless someone fixed the problems with them. and as for the nuke, it already exists but you just cant use it because the server crashes from some file not precached. (look at the ns.dll with a hex editor, you find all sorts of interesting stuff <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    If I had to name one thing I truly miss, it'd certainly be the 1.x Fade blink. It was of course too buggy to stay, but it was just ten times cooler to be truly relocated instead of simply being sped up. 'Jumping' from inside Hera's access tube right onto the marine access platform and falling into their backs is my single best 1.0 PT memory.

    IF I understand it right:

    -The babblers asked WAY too much of the servers, thus resulting in lag.
    -The Nuke is overpowered, its like a timebomb, the commander places it, the marines build it, and it detonates in a X amount of time, killing <b>everything</b> in a certain radius

    Yeah, nukes were too unbalancing.

    Although I REALLY wish they were back in the game. Maybe not in official maps, but it would be oh so fun if I could play customs with them.

    I miss the Fade's original Hive 3 Bile Bomb, that hurt everything like a grenade launcher. I remember shooting it at the ceiling in the marines' base just as they 'baconed' and getting many many kills.

    The Marines used to dread the Hive 3 weapons.

    Oh, yeah I also miss babblers.

    You know what I hated? Babblers.

    They were superflous to the game... in EVERY 1.0x game, the team that got two hives first won. If you had three hives you had ALREADY won when you had two hives. Thus, all 3-hive abilities were icing on the cake, and that included the Onos, which was practically unstoppable due to the hitbox bug, but pointless because THE GAME WAS ALREADY OVER LONG AGO..

    They LAGGED THE SERVER LIKE HELL. Every babbler used more and more of the CPU. You know how there were so few servers in the 1.0x days? That's because running a server was expensive, because you needed the entire box to yourself, and could only run one instance of the game. Babblers were part of that.

    They popped like balloons. I forget whether they died at one or two bullets, but it didn't matter. They died INSTANTLY when shot at.

    They didn't actually attack marines more than half the time. This is because they all too often refused to run up hills. Corners confused them. Heck, sometimes running in a straight line on level ground confused them! And when they got confused, due to using snark code, they'd turn on you and start biting the gorge that birthed them! They were more dangerous to the gorge than to the marines! Web was a better weapon (and gorges got that at TWO HIVES)!


    You know what I hated? The old blink.

    It was next to impossible to figure out where you would actually end up when you clicked. It was uncontrollable. It got you STUCK IN WALLS. It never helped actually kill marines. It was never used, mostly because Acid Rocket was a 1-Hive weapon and was a death weapon to make the marines tremble (acid rocket was the reason that obtaining 2 hives meant victory for the aliens... by that time, everyone on the team had enough resources to go fade at the same time, they all did so, and they all could spam Acid Rockets, which demolished everything and everyone). The only time I -ever- used it was to try and blink up to the top of elevators without having to wait for the elevators (and that worked very VERY rarely) and when I was seperated from the group for whatever reason and being chased by a marine (In which case only SOMETIMES would blink help at ALL)



    You know what I hated? The old lerk flight.

    You couldn't turn corners! You couldn't stay low to the ground! There was no chance at all of swooping into a pack of marines, munching, then flying out like a bat out of hell. The only use for flight was to go STRAIGHT UP... making it more or less the same thing as wall walking. You found a high perch and you spiked. No flying ever actually happened on ANY server I EVER saw. I couldn't do it. I've never seen anyone who could. Oh yes, I've heard reports... legendary lerks who could actually wrestle flight into something useful. Never encountered one.

    Now ANYONE can fly as a lerk. If you can use "freelook" you can lerk. Just spam spacebar, face where you want to go, and you go there. I can catch JPers in the air with bite. I can swoop, dodge, do all kinds of cool stuff. Lerk is now my CO evolution of choice.


    Know what I also hated? Getting stuck for no apparent reason at random, forcing someone to create an unstuck plugin, which created exploits like letting marines go outside nancy. *GRRRR* I hated that. Servers rarely even install unstuck anymore, because NO ONE EVER GETS STUCK. I've never seen anyone get stuck since the 1.0x days.


    Know what was worthless? The old paralyze. What was the sense in an ONOS weapon that still let the enemy shoot! I mean, heck, even the gorge can stop them from firing. The ONLY use for paralyze was for taking out JPers, and if you had an onos, that meant the game was already over long ago, which meant that JPers didn't exist.



    Nukes never existed in any public release. How can you miss them? All reports I heard was that they made the game no fun at all.


    You know what I loved? Not playing 1.04 anymore and switching to 2.0. Unchained Evolutions! Bug fixes! Sensories that were worth something! Multiple Gorges! Battle Gorges! Improved maps! No more framerate dependant effects like Jetpacks!

    Only thing I miss from 1.0x is a leap that can kill, and an acid rocket that can kill. But I'd hate to see Acid Rocket be 1 or 2 hive weapons... keep it 3rd, just make it as good as the old one was, or thereabouts. Everything else I liked about 1.0x can be attributed to the freshness of the game, and lack of any better alternative.

    You cannot fly backwards in the new Lerk flight. I've never seen the Lerk as an offensive class, rather a support/harrassment class. Being able to fall back while fighting are key to fulfilling those 2 rolls.

    Paralyze was certainly not useless. You could shoot down JPers with it. Its sure as hell better than stomp, which now wears off so quickly its not even worth using.

    Fade Blink actually was a teleport. Not some stupid "speed up a whole lot" move. It was buggy for sure, but was a lot more fun.

    Babblers and nukes I wouldn't care TOO much if they were left out entirely, but they were fun. Lots of fun. Would be nice to see them still be in the game, accessible by cheats. Maybe that crazy life-support armor too and the medlab, but I dunno how much work was done on those.

    And stucking into places you shouldnt is a lot of fun. Cmon, havent you ever played hide and seek as a kid?

    Where you can build buildings from being the commander.

    When you could of made a CC in the wall in Tanith Marine Start. I use to build a cc up there, then wait for 20 res, drop a cc in satcom vent, build it, wait for 20 more res, build an ip on the ledge, then watch all the marines shoot satcomm. That was THE BEST!
