REVIEWZOR!
Well, I would have written this last night when I saw it, but I was uber-tired and just knocked out when I got home at 2 am.
If you have ever seen any kind of old sci-fi movie that was in black and white, you will know what this movie is like.
Movie is set about 30 years after WWI and the main plotline is that a guy named Totenkoff was some incredible genius, got 2 PHDs by the age of 12, and he's created a bunch of robots that create havoc. That's about all I can say as to not give away the awesome ending.
Throughout the whole movie, the CG effects are awesome. You somewhat get used to them by the end but it's a really nice effect to add to the 'noir'-ish atmosphere of it.
It's kind of corny and kiddy at some parts, but that's what you'd expect as it kind of pokes fun at the early sci-fi robot movies.
Overall: good movie, great CG effects, kinda corny, but it is just a fun movie to see.

It looks like it is shot in Sepia tones to give it an old fashioned aged celluloid/tintype feel.
Looks to me like it's color, but strongly filtered. I really like the visuals, personally.
One thumb up and one down from Ebert & Roeper. Rotten Tomatos puts it at 75%, a fairly good score from them IMO.
[edit]Apparently it was lit for black and white, then digitally colored (of course, the whole thing is actually CG, minus the actors).
Here's the rottentomatoes site for it: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sky_captain/

And the fact that there is an army of robots out to destroy mankind doesn't bother you in the least eh?

Of course not. Robots are badass, Warhawks are not.
Sort of true, sort of not.
The entire movie was created digitally. There were originally NO plans to have real actors in it, but they changed their minds. So it's not that the movie was CGed around the actors -- it's that the actors were inserted into the CG movie.
Going to see this in an hour and a half, woo!
I'd really rather not look at it a second time.
50 mins!

Of course it uses live actors but I think the FF movie had much better animation than this movie, although both movies had good animation.
