The hype lasted for over a year for HL2... the only game I really want more than HL2 would be DNF, but I dont know if I'll live to see the day that game comes out.

We should start a pool of guesses for how long it takes RandomEngy to speedrun HL2 <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It's not like Valve

-worked very hard to get HL2 working nicely on nvidia cards (ATI's were working just fine IIRC)
    -had two worldwide hardware/software surveys
-designed the game so people with lower end pcs could run it by turning shiz off. I can run CS:S on a 1GHz, 256meg ram, 800x600 with an onboard Geforce4 mx at ~50 fps (My monitor caps at 60 btw).

Okay well I could probably find cheaper but im 8 bucks over the 150 dollar limit. But anyways this is the RAM I got. Just gotta buy two of em $158 for 1 gig. Works like a dream for me.

o_0 Even mine can run hl fine. Seeing as how HL's recomended requirements were 600mhz...

My box is only 4 1/2 years old too.

Don't see how a geforce 4 can fail to run HL...

    Hunt them with radiators and a manipulator <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'll try and find as much cool stuff as possible, see if I can stand on something while manipulating it (unlikely but I just have to know if I can fly!)

I'm gonna try and complete sp at some point without using any bullets, just crowbar and manipulator (where possible anyway, I don't know the story so can't predict exactly).

Manipulator + giant piece of cardboard + flapping motion = flight + (vertigo * vomiting)

Plus, I ran HL on a 500mhz computer, I think the min is 200 or 400. If you can't run it on a 1ghz computer I think you might be...running Doom3 in the background or something (either that or your grapics processor is a midget with an abacus).

It runs, but it runs **** poor, with noticable frame drops. Getting a new computer instantly gave me an apreciation for how nice HL really could be compared to the terrible experiance it was on the old box.

You can upgrade your computer's CPU and mobo to the minimum (if it isn't there yet) for hella cheap. I'm talking less than <a href='http://www.partspc.com/store/product4746.html' target='_blank'>$100.</a> That's a 1.8 ghz CPU right there. Not bad, not bad at all. Wait, that's more than the min. Way more.

    <a href='http://www.partspc.com/store/product4660.html' target='_blank'>And for $15 less....</a>

Christmas is coming soon. Your video card is not as important as your CPU, so if you're running on an 800 mhz God Machine with a Ti300, spending $75 gets you over twice the performance out of that same card. Not to mention you can get a <a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-153-013&depa=0' target='_blank'>DirectX 9 video card for less than $60.</a>

Hey wait, that's a playable HL2 system for under $140. Just use your older computer parts, and wallah!! You're in the club. And for <a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-131-219R&depa=0' target='_blank'>$30 more.</a> Now you're really doing it!

I suggest going another $40 up in the video card arena and purchasing a 9600 pro from ebay.com. Actually, you can buy a 9500 pro for around $90 on ebay, and that has better performance than the 9600 pro in Source based games (it has 8 pipelines instead of 4).

Of course, there's always overclocking to get way more out of your system. And upping your RAM to 512 MB is a good idea.

    Mmmmm....Half Life 2....mmmmmmmmmmmmm.....
