The hype lasted for over a year for HL2... the only game I really want more than HL2 would be DNF, but I dont know if I'll live to see the day that game comes out.

I'm gonna try and complete sp at some point without using any bullets, just crowbar and manipulator (where possible anyway, I don't know the story so can't predict exactly).
Plus, I ran HL on a 500mhz computer, I think the min is 200 or 400. If you can't run it on a 1ghz computer I think you might be...running Doom3 in the background or something (either that or your grapics processor is a midget with an abacus).

You can upgrade your computer's CPU and mobo to the minimum (if it isn't there yet) for hella cheap. I'm talking less than $100. That's a 1.8 ghz CPU right there. Not bad, not bad at all. Wait, that's more than the min. Way more.
And for $15 less....
Christmas is coming soon. Your video card is not as important as your CPU, so if you're running on an 800 mhz God Machine with a Ti300, spending $75 gets you over twice the performance out of that same card. Not to mention you can get a DirectX 9 video card for less than $60.
Hey wait, that's a playable HL2 system for under $140. Just use your older computer parts, and wallah!! You're in the club. And for $30 more. Now you're really doing it!
I suggest going another $40 up in the video card arena and purchasing a 9600 pro from ebay.com. Actually, you can buy a 9500 pro for around $90 on ebay, and that has better performance than the 9600 pro in Source based games (it has 8 pipelines instead of 4).
Of course, there's always overclocking to get way more out of your system. And upping your RAM to 512 MB is a good idea.
