I like to think of aliases and such as tools to even out the gaming level. A 3jump script could help someone bunny hop that doesn't have a wheel mouse. A pistol script can help them to shoot as fast as other people that have quick fingers. Gamma commands are there for the people that can't see anything in the game.
Anyone can use these things to help them out, but for some reason there is this big argument over whether or not people should. This even goes so far as to classify the people that use them as "scripters", something that is regarded as akin to cheating.
Sure if you think that there are malicious scripts then you could penalize everyone by removing their functionality (bs_1). Think though of all the people that use custom models. Should all servers run mp_cust 1 to stop the few that use spiked/edited models with neon coloured skins? To me that is a far larger problem.

Yes it's true that there are a couple of abusive scripts out there though I rarely, almost never see them in use. I'd bet there are a LOT more helpful scripts or useless non-abusive scripts out there compared to abusive scripts. So is it fair to punish everyone just for some bad apples? In my opinion no and the reason why is there are atleast two ways around it. One, server admins. I'm sure if someone was using an abusive script, players on the server would complain, the regulars who really are regulars and care about the server would take demos, etc. Thus, the admins can ban the abusive script user, easy enough. Second, why not go to the core of the problem and fix it there instead of just smacking everything down with a one end-all quick fix that screws a lot more people over?
Like pistol script, some people complain that people shoot so damn fast its like hacking! There is a rate of fire cap on the pistol and there are non-script users who can shoot just as fast as the scriptors with no problem though I feel sorry for their mouse. Now, if it really was a problem and it involved balance, the devs could easily just lower ROF for the pistol.
Wigglewalk, it's banned from CAL and not many people use it, atleast anymore since it was clearly said that it's banned from CAL. Though I don't know the physics behind how wigglewalking works, I'd bet our Devs are good enough that if they put their mind to it, they can find a way to counter wigglewalking.

the same reason bunnyhopping makes you faster, is what this walk faster script is
and you can do it without _special, and even without any scripts at all
Doing it without _special is a lot worse than with special because when you use the script, you can't do anything else. That means if a skulk jumps at you from behind a crate or ceiling while you are using the script, you can't jump to dodge it or shoot. If you do it without scripts, I doubt you'll achieve anything close to the speed you would get with scripts, probably at most 50%.

...The benefit to using _special for anything is it doesn't interrupt other commands. It's perfectly possible to use _special wigglewalk and shoot skulks at the same time. Why do you think the _special pscript is such a pain. It doesn't sacrifice control in order to gain speed, which is why it's exploitive and abusive compared to a normal script.

Is it the wigglewalk script or the actual wigglewalk that is banned? I just tried doing it manually on ns_bhop and could get a non-celerity skulk from 290 to roughly 340 - a 17% speed boost. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
You can actualy run with it as a marine fast as a normal skulk
Anyone can use these things to help them out, but for some reason there is this big argument over whether or not people should. This even goes so far as to classify the people that use them as "scripters", something that is regarded as akin to cheating.
Sure if you think that there are malicious scripts then you could penalize everyone by removing their functionality (bs_1). Think though of all the people that use custom models. Should all servers run mp_cust 1 to stop the few that use spiked/edited models with neon coloured skins? To me that is a far larger problem.
i think its part of the _special scripts. and it basically presses strafe walks really super duper fast (strafe walking = tapping a and d while moving foward, which gives you more speed)
it doesnt even look like your wiggling, its insane.
its bant in cal though and most servers bant you for it. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

its not meant for aliens. its meant to be used as a marine.
Dunno where you read that <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

One of our players, I believe it was #cri.scomm asked I forget which CAL-NS admin about the wigglewalk before our match vs sU. He told us that using _special wigglewalk would be considered illegal in a match.
I belive its because sidestep is slightly faster movment than +forward.

its because its bunny hopping without jumping...
the same reason bunnyhopping makes you faster, is what this walk faster script is
and you can do it without _special, and even without any scripts at all
What would be a good speed for a marine to hit with a _special script?
