they have not released any definate information yet- when we all know, you'll know <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
does anyone know what the status of ns:s is?
are they even planning to make one? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
when you searched, did you remember to have it check ALL the posts, not just the ones within a small timespan (during which the forums were down)

It has been a pretty crazy 2+ years, that's for sure. For some of us devs, NS has been a big part of our life for much longer then that (Squeal and I have been working on NS since August of 2000!). It's pretty incredible to think of how far it's come.
Yet, this is just the beginning. With a probable port to Source, and then a full-fledged NS2, we're just getting started. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

when did he say that? I was under the impression that a NS:S port was unlikely, certianly more unlikely then most of the other mods that have for the most part given up HL development all together in favor of sourse ports...
Insinuating that they wern't tired of it before the questions started? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I always knew he wanted a sourse version, I just assumed that there would be enough work going on between the standard NS tweaks and the management of a new development company that it would be squeezed out in priority in favor of profitable development projects.
BTW: I'm not tempsuspended XD

I'm actually amazed that there haven't been more quick and dirty ports of old mods, actually. Most teams seem to be opting for the "well, we should make it very polished, like a remake in Source, because we don't want to release a crappy product." But the fact is, whichever major mod releases even a quick and dirty port (even with all the old textures and models etc., like HL1:S is) will gain a MAJOR rush of new users that could come into their community (and hence build their mod) because of the real lack of multiplayer options for HL2 right now (either you really like CS, or you are happy with only two official DM maps and limited weapons/models). Not saying NS should opt for the quick and dirty, but I am saying that given that this is fresh territory, speed is far more important than graphical polish. People stick with games for the gameplay in the end: graphics are secondary (heck, NS is a shining example of this). This is especially so given how easy it would be to release a playable port with al old graphics and then just steadily replace old elements with new as time goes on: since most would only be cosmetic, not gameplay, changes.
Unless I've read the signs very wrong what they want is to use the HL2 engine as a base, and create their OWN game from it... not a mod, but rather an entire GAME ( similar to what HL1 did witht he quake? engine )
Also, remember- the allure of UNLIMITED weapons, CUSTOM hitboxes, a GREAT physics engine, and the all mighty HL2 graphics engine is quite strong <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Besides- who wouldn't like to be able to pick up a random object (like a piece of a chewed up resource tower) and ram it thru the side of a rampaging onos? THINK ABOUT IT!
If we could incorperate the ability to use our environment in NS like we can in Hl2... oh sweet jesus it'd be positively ORGASMIC!
I want to see the entire extent of the animations ALREADY CREATED for the models being used. They currently aren't due to limitations on the HL1 engine, which don't exist in HL2. In HL2, all they have to do is say "Yes, please use these animations already created". I want to see Lerks banking in flight, wings spread for soaring, tilting left or right as it goes...
And remember: Flamethrowers. Source may very well make a volumetric flamethrower technically feasible and aesthetically pleasing-- the two conidtions Flayra has for implementing one.
At any rate, we all know that this list can go on, and on, and on. There's rumor that this next HL1 beta 3.0 version will be the "last", and I think that means that the port to source won't be long comming...
Just look at HL2's fire effects!
Hell, Return to Castle Wolfensteian had a good flamethrower in it!
Hehe. I just saw this thread.

This is probably all the info you're going to get for a while
The NS port is a different matter: it almost MUST be for Source because the conversion would be so easy and obvious, not to mention the playerbase.
I have to say: the flame effects on HL2, while they look nice in a limited context, are fairly limited themselves. They are not volumetric flames, they are merely sprites: very good ones to be sure, but with serious drawbacks as when, for instance, viewed from the "wrong" angle. The engine, I'm sure would allow for all sorts of additional effects since it has a fantastic particle system, but the NS team would have to create them.
I would love to see the extra animations brought to life.
my bad then i guess, ns2 on source would be PURFECT
If anyone had a bet over "how long it would take for someone to ask about NS:S after the forums reopen" your answer will be "Less then an hour" with odds of 2:1. Please collect bets accordingly. Thank you.

NS2 will be retail according to the interviews and statements we have ATM. An NS:S port would be something entirely different, but probably alot easyer... All you would really need to do is dump everything you have already, figure out what you want the physics to add/remove from the game, and then leave it up to the mappers to create more interactive and dazzling maps... Infact map content is by far the biggest hurdle to any sourse port, because old maps, though they have thier charm, just don't look like they have that HL2 goodness. The current NS modles aren't gorgeous, but they will ragdoll ok and they aren't so terrible that they all look like they need to be redone as is the case for many mods...
I love to hear about ns source, but flayra said that he would be spending most of his time working on ns2 retail...
i just want to know if that will affect the speed of ns:s?
Unknow worlds entertainment team is ns team?
