I don't see why all you people who's names are dependent on having 1 or more zero's and that is it use 'O' instead of '0'

granted OO7 doesn't look quite as good, but its still compleatly readable, and alot better than ZeroZero.

There are 2 obvious reasons for the number limitation:
    L33T
    and 69

Both of which should stay the hell away from NS handles at all costs.

Oh, and if X5 ever drops by, I love your comprimize!

I am fairly certain flay's theme on this will be "There is nothing we can do, sorry."

At the time, I had thought that no numbers would be allowed period, as I thought I read this in Flayra's pre-website changeover thread.

Just PM nem or something and explain your case. I'm sure he can apreciate your screwedness by this new naming system and will make the change for you.

So... the website is back up and we get our names changed. Hooray. ... not.
Your reason for the name changes was
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The idea here is to promote community quality by encouraging everyone to identify as their 'handle' whenever possible.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Oh yeah.. good job there, before you came up with this, I had that.. It's my name on irc, my name in game, my name on the forum. It's my name nice ages. it's [Sorcerer].
Hell, I even sign oil drawings with that name.
Now you achieved the contrary. Good job there. And if you think that I'll change my name everywhere else, because you think you need to make everyone equal according to that weird rule, you thought wrong.

Choosing a nickname or a 'Handle' as you might say, is something very personal. at least for me it is. Okay, you could say, that my nick isn't very original, and I totally agree with you in that point. But for me it's a sentimental thing. I have my reasons why I stick to it and why I chose it.

So if you want equal names so much, why don't you even go a step further and only name us by nubers? I mean, you already took away our identity, so why leave us with any names? just name us user22745.

I don't know what your long term plan is but it more and more looks like you want to kill NS.. first you take town the website for two month, then you take away the identities, what's the next step?

I think maybe if we had reduced restictions or Mods had the ability to overide the rules should a case be made that meets basic requirements. I mean i want Hologram or Hologram0110 not Hologram0 and there was not problem with that untill you guys made a change... Give me back my name? ive been using it for years...
  • ThaldarinThaldarin Alonzi&#33; Join Date: 2003-07-15 Member: 18173Members, Constellation
I think that people should just accept it, I've lost my "-" and I don't mind as I haven't the need for it. And as long as your the only name with "Hologram" on the forum, and people in the community know who you are (recognised by knowing you on MSN, IRC, signature style and on the forums etc.) it really should not matter what nickname you have.

Also I feel whining doesn't help too much. Maybe a quick e-mail or private forum message to a mod may gain you a quicker answer?

About not allowing two numbers in a name, if that's to prevent people from popping in "69" why not just disallow the number 69 to be used in usernames and allow others?

I was always acidtreat101 so I changed it to Acidtreatone0one, its the same thing! I dont really care but I have to admit it just makes people want to rebel against the rules. I dont think my name breaks any rules!

acid treat may be violating rules, but boy does he know how.. yowza! I mean, tsk on that sig and avatar, and such.

My old name, Speed2Dave, was probably removed from the forums a long time ago, so I probably don't have to worry about my name.

I can't really complain since my name had no numbers. I wouldn't care anyway since I have no single identity. I use Condizzle for general purposes and Major Retawd for war games, so I don't have to bother with numbers. I really don't see the problem of having number exceptions for people whose numbers mean something though.

    i used to be called todd10000. i couldent even be todd10k. i had to be todd1Ok. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

there were reasons for my name being such.

can a one of the lesser worked mods not be given the task of dealing with "leet" names like mine and deeming if the reason for it having to be "leet" is good enough to give them their name? perhaps a group of mods?

just seems very restrictive on a persons creativity, and online persona. people know me as todd10000, they see me, they can identify me. forcing people to go by one identity on the forums and another on irc/other forums/etc. is a BAD move. some people (like me) like to use the same handle for all internet, and sometimes rl ventures. now i get to be toddone ok. great <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Don't worry, flay promised clan identities will be implimented later so its not like you will be FTT-less for ever.

I feel amputated... Flayra has stolen my precious brackets, which distinguished me from the hordes of coma's out there... next to the emotional value they have for me as a person, they also serve for identification purposes, and besides, they're pretty useful to nail that nasty fade down to the floor with before i cap a couple of pistol rounds in it's ugly face! (oh wait, that last part was just a joke... becase in real life, there are no fades... really!)

I feel saddened at my loss, and at the loss of the many who have posted before me. Like i said on the old forum, i will not change my name ingame, so this "one-player-one-nickname" idea will not work for me!

I urge the readers of this post to stand up with me, raise our banners, and march straight into the home of Flayra himself to reclaim what is rightfully ours.. our nicknames!!

<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>PS although the tone of this post might read as somewhat ****-off, in fact i'm pretty ok with this... it's just crappy that i have to remember a different login name for this specific site, whereas at all other boards/games/websites/pornchats... ehh wait scrap that last one.. i'm known as [c]oma</span>

dont you fools realise what is happening? by taking parts of your names, he takes some of your power! this means that given enough name vampirism, he could single-handedly finish B6, and create NS:S AND NS2 in a single day!!!

do not be angry that your name has been mangled, be glad that you have been chosen to help create and improve an awesome game(s)

Listen guys i hate to pee on your parade but this whining is getting a little out of hand. I mean for god's sake. Are we seriously supposed to believe that you walk up to people you meet at school or the mall and go "Hi. I'm Tod10000." The change has been made so my advice would be to smile and nod.
