I Miss The Old Days.

<div class="IPBDescription">:(</div> Does anyone else miss the old days? The days where the game was so balanced and hard to tip that we would have rounds that would last 03-48 hours.

Lerks had spikes, onos had primal scream, it all seemed to balance out very well.
Now we are LUCKY to get a game that lasts more than an hour and a half.

They all end so fast now, its depressing.

I was into NS way more than one of my buddies, but he watched me play and was hooked.

Now, he plays it near constantly, and I've moved to an area without high speed internet on top of not having a decent computer any longer.

I had to explain to him how things used to be. When onos could scream. When lerks shot spikes. The days before catalyst packs and picking up ammo boxes. When fades tossed bile bombs, and gorges had babblers. Babblers really got him; apparently he thought that'd be a 'cool upgrade,' not knowing that at one time it was.

In my experience, a good game is between 20 and 40 minutes. Not quite a blowout, but not a dragout either. Gotta stay between the blow and the drag!... err...

1.04 was fun, but not balanced.

You think 1.04 is balenced? Yeah, right.
    HMG/JP > Everything else.

I miss the old days however, Flayra's vision of NS was a fast pased game. And the game is evolveing in that direction. 30 mins tops, I'm content with that. Hell I remember when sensory chambers paricited marines that touched them, and when weilders were required equipent for hive killing, back when turrets fired even when the turret factory was destroyed. I remember the days back before marines could recycle, its been fun, but I beileve NS is better now. However I still miss the old days. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    No.

    Oh, should I post a proper answer? Erm, what Fangs said. Except I don't. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

There is hardly anything wrong with NS now...
Apart from hitbox lag and some other minor things.

True, but saying "the old days" seems to have a calming, almost cathartic effect on people.

I sooooo don't regret 1.04. The game became all of a sudden a great game when 2.0 came out. Before that, playing in clan was just a joke (aliens try to rush gorge, fail, and 3 mins later 5 JP/HMG came to rape your hive. it hardly differed from that). You can regret long long and epic rounds, but most people also don't :)

I miss them with that "good old days" humor. Sure it was fun but terribly unbalanced and had really bad problems. It was also quite a long time trend to get pg asap and <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif' /><!--endemo--> farm allmost all rts <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Just had great game yesterday that lasted 35mins had a team of noobs versus good team of aliens. The game turned when we got ninja og to waste hive after a a moment of pushing I had the hive down with dcs. After that we had a long fight over rts/cargo same time. Wisefully I saved res all the time for new rts so we had constant guns on map. Rule number one with noob team: NEver have <30res if they are even slightly under pressure.

Oh yeah, two hour games with tons of turrets and ocs and people who think they're having fun is awesome.

2.0 was definetely the best! but some bad things I'm connecting with 2.0 are
    - turretfarms
    - unbalanced alien techtree

and comeon be honest dudes. I don't think that you really wanna play rounds for about 2 hours! you can even finish the job within 15mins in 2.0 when you're good

the game wasn't made boring you got bored of it

it happens. take a break, you'll probally come back to t.
boredom usually comes from familiarity. one thing about ns no other game has ever had me hooked this long.

    About long epic games:

I have had two PCWs rather recently (during b5) where we played tanith, and both the marine and alien round lasted 45-60 minutes. PGs going up, hmgs distributed and lost, dbl being fought over and taken just to be retaken. Hives going up and being lost. 3 fades and 1 onos vs fully upgraded HAs trying to siege cargo with two JPs as support and RT-patrolling, losing two of the fades and the onos after killing most of the HA and taking back cargo. Building, losing and rebuilding RTs.

That could not have happened in 1.04 or 2.01, but it did in 3.0.

Of course, afterwards we laughed and called the game retarded ^^

    True true... but I actually think those games were fun <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I still remember one of the games. It was vs bm and was really, really long (like tjosan said), but still very exciting.

    If aynone wants to see the demos I still have them (2 rounds / 1 ns_tanith & 1 ns_origin / hltv / 30 MB zipped)

There are some who prefer the old days and some who prefer the current NS. However, 1 thing is certain - There were stuff that were better before and stuff that are better now. NS can't simply satisfy everyone with its patches. With patches, you win some, you lose some.

I do like long long games though. To me at least, always having short games lasting 20 mins is very fast-paced. I mean, I don't want hour-long games all the time, but there was something fun about them - You didn't know who would win

I miss the acid rocket that was strong...heck, gorge hive 1 spit does even more damage than fade hive 3 acid rocket

I miss the babblers that were cute...not useful, but terribly cute. I do admit however, it is indeed more useful now to give the gorge webs to replace babblers.

I miss the spikes...they were soooo fun, and soooo annoying to marines, I actually owned most others, even HAs with my spike.....but nooooo! Now I have to fly into the face of a shotgunner and die while trying to bite

I miss the Onos strong charge...and his scream...RROOOARRRRR!!! All aliens gathered around an Onos, when it screamed and charged, the marines all ran and died....

ahhhhhh.....the good ol' days indeed, I miss them.

I just miss bablers. I lived for those rare 3 hive alien finishes where i could send herds of bablers to nip HA marines to death.
come to think of it, I also miis the old fade insta blink, I was a murderer with it and havent really enjoyed fade since

What I miss about the old beta's had to be the people and the fun times that we had together, what I dont miss at the errors that I got in the old beta's connected to Gamma >_< oh they were horrible, what I really regret is damn combat, the real NS_ games are what are ment to be, they are fun and people I have tried to bring NS to have a bad impression of NS becuase of its well hard to explain. But I think NS are for people who like stradegy and shooters, the CS people are the ones I hate, all they want is a shoot em up rally and no team work based fights, sigh its really hard to find NS type of people <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

I am fond of the longer games. I think they sort of overshot and made ns_ itself a little too fast paced, so that early decisions or mistakes can clinch or doom a game easily. Now that we have co_ around, maybe we can try to bump up the longevity of games? Or maybe it's just because of the quality of players, I don't know.

Boy sounds like i missed alot... i came shortly after beta5... i wish i could say i miss the good old days... wasted most of my time for the passed 2 years on cs... finaly got boring and went from game to game... went back to cs... got into a few clans got kicked out of a few clans... finaly friend told me about ns so i gave it a shot... i had played so many other half life mods i was seriously doubting i would like it, but he kept buggin me... played and was a noob for about a week... about the 2nd week i started at the com chair... got a few guys **** off, but i still run into them... got my first victory as com at ns_nothing on my 3rd week... freakin awsome win... everyone had a mic on the server... everyone congratzed me... one wicked feeling... it rocked, but there is just so many possitions in this game that got me into it... you cant get bored with so many possibilities... i would say i know every concept and little thing... but oddly enough im still having trouble remembering a few map names... but when i get there i know every inch of it... i wish i had gone straight to ns instead of ever playing cs...
