About Skins And Models?!?!?!?!

<div class="IPBDescription">Whats the diff. between them</div> the reason im posting this is i go to counter strike web sites and halflife web sites and look at all the diff skins but what i want to know is whats the diff between the diff skins for the diff. mods if anyone knows and how i go about changing the skins to fit in with natural selection and vica versa the help would be greatly apreciated

    If I'm not mistaken, some models for different mods will work for NS. A friend of mines tried a AWP model (From Counter Strike of course) and replaced it with the Grenade Launcher model in NS. It actually worked for some strange reason, but problem is the reloading and animations was horribly screwed up.

    Normally, if you want to replace a weapon model, or any model, all you have to do is download the new model, and replace the old model file.

    I could always ask him, but he ain't online as of now. But for me, I'd actually like to see a P90 for the light machine gun, dont ask why, I just think that gun looks kinda weird and semi-futuristic.

    Skin: The details of the gun, what makes it look like a gun. It is layered over the model.

    Model: The 3d model that makes it...well..3d

    Combine the two:

    Note that most models use multiple "meshes" which is what makes up the skin of the gun. The 1st picture is one of several "meshes" that make up the total look of the gun.

    Here is the reason you animations were messed up Evintos.

    Animations
    Note the difference between the following two pictures:

    Different names, different orders. VERY <b>rarely</b> will a model work if it is directly taken from one mod and put in another. To get it to work, the model must be opened up in a 3d modelling program, such as Milkshape, and the animations renamed and reorganized.

    I was just suprised it worked in the first place. Sure I knew that the animations would be screwed up but I never expected the model to actually show up without crashing NS or something.

    oh hl models will always work with every mod, just not properly

    yep, all it requires is that the animations be in the same order.

    doesnt hurt to have the animation lengths be the same too, otherwise you can get cutoff/dead time

(like ut2k3)... this mod rawks great poly models.

    he is right, speaking of animating

    def do you got NS hands in max so i can make a new lmg animation for a pulse rifle, pulse rifle doesnt reload from the side so bleh i cant really use defaults

    Just search for Half-Life model viewer on google.

    And no, skins are not sprites. They are 256 color bitmaps applied to a model.
