    Honestly: <b>YES</b>

99% of webpages work fine, tabbed browsin, uses MUCH less ram, Plugins, Safer.

Plus, you can transfer all your stuff from IE, like yoyr favorties etc too firefox very easily.

    Only con i have noticed:

About 10% of websites have trouble streaming content to windows media player. No big deal though.

Firefox is much better. It provides better protection against spyware and popups, and is less vulnerable in general to malware. It has many more features like tabbed browsing, an integrated download manager and is fully customizable with extensions. Plus, on the whole it's faster than IE.

    FireFox > IE.

There's a bunch of plugins that I'd recommend to get, I think there's a thread about it somewhere... run a search for it.

I highly recommend the "Open this page in IE" plugin, because sometimes Firefox doesn't work well with steaming video, and some random pages don't like it. (very very few)

For an extensive list of plugins, go to <a href='https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/?os=Windows&application=firefox/' target='_blank'>this page</a>. They are separated by different categories. I would recommend clicking on "All Extensions" on the left side to look at all of them, with a description. Or you can just look at the categories you are interested in. Personally, I think the Adblock extension is the best one you can get.

Maxthon is based on the IE engine, as such has, surprise surprise, many of the same security flaws as IE. Possibly why its previous name was "MyIE2" Its just ie, pretending to be something better.

I just couldn't get into mouse gesture.

Image Zoom on the other hands, I got spoiled.

I was frustrated when I browsed the web at the library, and realized I couldn't do the zoom in on their machines running only IE.

Why is even IE considered as a web-browser, since it doesn't follow the w3-standards? It doesn't even parse CSS correctly! Microsoft never learns...

I seond that. I don't know how many times I've been browsing with IE at school and tried to close the page with a mouse gesture about 6 times before I remember why it isn't working.

Pardon my nubbishness, but what eaxctly is CSS? I hear the term thrown around virtually every time an IE/Firefox war pops up.

Personally, I prefer Opera to FF, but both are definetly and significantly superior to IE. I guess FF is the drug of choice for those not too interested in additional (read: bloating) features.

I used Opera for a year or so before FF. One thing I miss about it is the superior tabbed browsing, the web pages were resizable inside the browser, and every page was automatically opened in a new tab if it called for opening in a new window.

I know there's a plugin to make all links open in a tab for FF, but the being able to cascade web pages inside the browser without making new windows was really nice.
  • Rapier7Rapier7 Join Date: 2004-02-05 Member: 26108Members
I use FF, but I don't think it's leaps and bounds ahead of IE.

Tabbed browsing doesn't do much for me. Why not move your task bar up top and make pretend?

This is true, but they're much more useful than that would suggest.

The main function of a stylesheet is to simplify formatting a web page, basically collecting all of the formatting information into one place. For example, you could define your <p> tags in a stylesheet as being 10pt red verdana. Now every time you would use a <p> tag in your web page it would be 10 pt verdana and red, instead of you needing to mess with <font> tags etc.

In the majority of cases the stylesheet will be a separate file from the web page, that the web page can refer to. This lets someone writing a web site simply refer to the style sheet on each page, instead of having to tediously format every single page.

www.w3schools.org has a decent intro to CSS, but there might be simpler guides out there.
