<div class="IPBDescription">but i'm getting bored with NS</div> Every game has a certain momentum to keep up, when ppl are expecting things to happen, its sad to say i think NS has lost the momentum.
I know they have said that they want to get it right before they release it, but i've lost interest in NS, other things are more interesting now and i find myself looking to NS last as a last resort rather than what i must play as soon as i get online, i've played good matches in this ver, i've played bad matches in this ver. i havnt seen anything new for months in any game i've played.
I think the NS dev team missed their window and blew it as far as i'm concerned.
feel free to comment, flame away if you feel the need to..... but make it relevent and meaningful not just "OMG j00 suck" etc..

So good luck to you with other games...
Quite frankly, it doesnt matter what game you play. When you'v found the people you play with. At the moment, NS is the thang. With abit of WoW, ofcourse <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
Also once a community gets popular, its time to move on, popular may be good for developers, but its just not as fun, this follows with HLs popularity, before the influx of people, the majority of games you played of HLDM or TFC were great, good fun, and ettiquette was followed, then popularity hits, server ettiquette is blown away, and the community is at large torn appart, any kiddie with their parents credit card gets a server, and before u know it you have 7000 highly modded game servers, and the ones you used to play on close, because this new tide of players want to play on the modded servers.
Not that im saying all plugins are bad, but they need to be used in moderation, like drinking pure orange juice or eating cheese.... too much and you will be on the loo for days after!
This fairly new idea of "fun" maps, (allthough years old now) that continually get voted on, those maps simply are not fun, terribly concieved, and I know myself can be made (brush wise, texturing them takes a little longer, unless you just make the brush with the texture already) in roughly 4 hours, but some look less and some look more, but the concept is the same, siege is not (in my opinion) fun, with the only real fun coming from the use of NO turrets or sieges, and use the sheer power of the marines to win. A bit of a testiment to siege don't u think, being fun when siege isn't used....
Also, when someone manages to kill 4+ people within 10 seconds, or less, what happened to "well played"... majority of the time now you see "OMG" "WTH" "you cheat!" etc... thats not cool, many people would take offence to that, although some ofcourse will just laugh it off. Although I know and accept that some people will cheat online games, my first though of someone who appears skilled is "well played", is that due to long term online gaming, or personality, imo the former due to many long term players I know think the same way. (when i say long term, i mean pre HL, or HL from the start of its existence)
A games replayability is ofcourse important, for me, HL and HL2 single player, has no replayability, where as I will still give doom 1 and 2, and the newer quake 3 and rtcw the time of day, where as online games go, I played NS from the start, and only recently have started to fall away from it, I tryed DoD recently, started about 4 days ago, and i'll be honest, although i like the game concept, I will only play with mates, for fun, I can't see myself playing it longer then a couple of weeks. Games have gone a full circle, from back in the day where graphics couldn't matter, playability was king, then the 3dfx era, where playability was pushed aside for looks, atleast ID sofware stuck to playability and looks with their newer games, is that because their older games looked best at the time too?
As for NS, I feel im close to the end of my time with it, not due to the game, having played beta 6, with the small beta 6 community there is, it does rekindle hope, but then you know in the back of your mind that the entire community will get their hands on it... and it sends a small shiver of doubt that it will continue to be fun.
P.S - I'm in no way saying everyone is in the group I have stated in the post, but it takes only 50% of a community to be this way to make things not as much fun.
If you tire of it,try my trick.
Get involved in another game,then you'll come back to NS after a while.
Failing that,DO NOT PLAY NS BY THE CONFORMED STANDARD!
Do what I do;BE CREATIVE!! Especially on CO maps!
Follow my path of creativity and outright madness. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
non-modded > modded
Its a shame though, that even with the various kind of servers we have today around the globe, people come bored of the game.
[Note] Second sentence is just to show the few things that annoy me about NS. SO don't turn into a scripting war please. [/Note]
but i have to agree with playing with people you don't like. i definatly don't like playing with people i dislike and it just isn't the same that's why i just join another server.
and if i ever get bored of normal NS i just go custom.
just find a good bunch of people that are expierenced and you'll have a blast, even if it's a few people on a server.
-works for me <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->-

that's so true... i came back <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It takes me about 2 minutes to figure out if I'm going ot enjoy the server i'm on. The thing that annoys me the most is an inexperienced comm that won't listen to advice and
1) makes as small a base as possible around his comm chair
2) won't cap any nodes until he tfs a hive
3) then electrifies any nodes he gets
4) without supporting any 'rines who are trying to pressure the aliens
at that point I just leave and see if there are any other low ping servers around that are better.
If you grab some friends, find a vent server, and play together, the game magically becomes more fun.
Play custom maps, custom servers, with custom plugins.
Or hell, do what I do, mix your play up a little bit.
In CO and NS go nothing but Alien for a straight week, then play Marine and it'll feel like you've moved to a new bed. or if you're playing Alien, do lerk the entire round.. or find a server with spikes still on and play with that.. theres still a lot more fun to be had that you guys are realizing.
Yeah it's boring sometimes, but thats because you guys are playing drop 3 RTs, 1 Fade and 1 gorge to drop a hive.. or some autonomonus redundant game like that. MIX IT UP.
All games get boring, take a week or two brake and come back.
*EDIT* Funny that I should be reading this thread right now, as Marik Steele is in the house. These threads normally don't last very long, in case some of you didn't know.
*EDIT #2* Or, maybe this one is going to last longer than the others. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I just hate games where you have a terribly good player on say the marine side and he can stop 4 skulks from ganging him... I know skill is something that is needed, but I really wish there was a skill matching system like Halo 2's or Warcraft III's with the icons...
R4K just kills the game in my opinion. Res only needs to come from the towers, and it favors marines way too much... Granted large games would be harder for aliens without R4K, but there needs to be a better way to implement it...
I find more marine wins and it's pretty sad. Alien early game is ridiculously weak as marines can advance to whereever they want and lock it down...
I love playing aliens, but unfortunately on the larger servers, the aliens seem to get destroyed from lack of res.
It sucks knowing that your team is gonna lose because not everyone put down resource towers, and also people who dont defent them.
I hope there will be a patch soon making gameplay a little more fluid. =\
As for our release frequency, it's true that it's currently abysmal, which can be largely brought down to a significantly too small dev team (B6 was basically created on the shoulders of a single coder). The yellow icon in the right upper corner of the frontpage should indicate that we're doing something about it.
The only mod people will never get bored of for inexplicable reasons is counterstrike. People get bored of mods, paticularly mods that don't change a lot, but losing people is a natural part of ANY mod's development. If we could chip away even a small portion of the CS community, that would be great, but apparently a very large fraction of people enjoy counterstike, and will allways enjoy it regardless that the mod has really remained unchanged since it's beta releases.
Why? If we could figure that out, I bet our problems would be solved.

Alot of that stuff is true. Alot of that stuff happened with CS when it wasnt as popular and you frequented certain servers you got to know the people and it was fun. Just seeing people you saw often and alot of people knew each other etc. Although i aint really played CS since retail although ive found out alot about it and stuff. I mean i never bothered with CS then i met some people who got into it late retail or so. I found out some mad stuff as well like in clan matches they always seem to just play like a line of 3 maps or so and the rest arnt touched. I remember when i was in a clan and we just played what ever and didnt really take anything seriously. ok we were crap but its was fun, did move onto another clan that was good but it didnt last never lost a match. funny really, the crap clan were i lost loads was more fun. There are also maps for CS which are just **** poor, no design in them at all, basicly a few boxes in a box and the players love them.
I started playin DoD after i stoped CS and played through its early days, once that went retail they made the game easier for new people which made it crap. I then moved off from that and on to NS, might have been playing both at the same point.
Played NS from release like DoD and it was cool has been cool for ages although i aint actually played NS in a long time, i aint even played the latest patch its been so long. I bet if i did play though id be into it straight away but i dont really want to. Same again with knowing people from going on same server etc.
There just seems to be a point in a game when it gets so popular that people take it really really seriously, so when they die there all "WTH!", etc. I remember i was on some lame clans server where they were doing the usual, lets get the clan on one side and kill loads of random people who have little chance. I killed loads of them easy, got kicked and banned. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i dont understand CS, i dont see why so many people play it. maybe its due to the fact that it doesnt really matter if you good or crap you can actually kill people easy, if your lucky.
the only time i get bored with NS is a 30+ minute Ns game where no1 appears to be winning.
