Testament, no offence but console RPGs are usually very deep and interesting with character development and plot. I hated D2 because I was spoiled by console RPGs.
Anyone who puts a gametype down just because of the platform <b>especially while admitting they've never played them</b> is fooling themselves out of enjoying the merits of being a true gamer.

I seem to recall reaching level 25 with a Necromancer, but it was probably just a bad dream.

I haven't found a good console RPG yet. Unless you count SRPG's. I just hate the battle systems, lack of choice, boring characters, and they're not complicated enough.

And I only hated Diablo 2 because it was boring as all hell. I wouldn't have liked it no matter what, I think. I couldn't stand playing it for more than 30 mins at a time. It was a bore.

    srpgs?

And I am on the same lines as gem on this.

most of the console RPGs out there have great plots (hell that is why I play them)

yah, generaly battle gets a bit dull after a while, but it is still generaly worth it when you know you are about to get another cool plot piece.

Strategy RPG's. Disgaea, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.

And I play games for fun. Simply put, I haven't found a console RPG enjoyable outside of KoToR and KoToR2, which has the choices, character development, and gameplay of a CRPG, because Bioware made it (it as in KoToR1. Obsidian made number two). A story is a nice side-effect, but I won't play a game for that sole reason.

Kotor is a PC RPG hiding in Xbox clothing. Console RPGs rarely have the choices and character development (as in stats and skills, not plot) of a PC RPG, probably because it's easier to do that kind of thing with a hard drive and a mouse/keyboard interface. I've heard Fable is big on these elements, although I've never played it.

PC RPGs generally have a crappy, boring plot, in my opinion. Maybe I've been ruined by Final Fantasy (although FFX and FFX-2 had crappy plots, I actually quit play FFX-2 because the plot annoyed me so much, even though the class system wasn't bad).

One big exception is Final Fantasy Tactics, which is the best game I've ever played. Good plot, good character development systems, great depth, great learning curve, great replayability, it's pretty easy, but you can impose artificial challenges on yourself to make the game harder that actually feel like fun, instead of gimpy(like beating it with a single character, for example). It is an SRPG, like you said, however.

Pokemon was verry addicting...(hell I bring my GBA to school and play it when i'm bored)

It's not that console RPGs are better/worse than PCs it's just that both sides have fanboys that will only accept PC/Console games/RPGs. Which annoys me.

    (I sure used a lot of slashes <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

Zelda is an example of a great console RPG.

I always considered Zelda an adventure game.

Half Life 2 has a plot, even though it has no RPG elements.

I would classify Zelda as an Action-Adventure game with a very small number of RPG elements.

I heard someone made it to 60, finished all quests and missions in 16 days. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
First of all, he was a rogue, which is the one class that can level significantly faster than the others. Second, he had played the beta extensively, so he knew where all the best grinding spots were. Third, he didn't complete very many quests, because they don't have very good xp/hour compared to grinding. Finally, the average player can't do that. I can't do that.

    600 hours = 75 days, playing 8 hours a day. That's how long it would take me to hit lvl60. That's why I quit wow. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Ahahahaahahhaaha. Rogue being easy to level. Hahahahahahahhahahahahaha.

i could never stand the grind. i read some reviews of wow and apparently, it's supposed to do away with that, but apparently, the reviewer in question is some sort of hardcore mmorpger. they did, after all, have extensive experience with eq

i could not get into diablo or diablo 2 either. until d2 expansion; the fast paced many skill use fast tactical thinking of the assassin drew me in. for a few months. people who play for years, and much more boring classes at that, or worse, d1, are amazingly strange to me

i did eventually get to like the necro (which also involved constant tactical thinking) and to a lesser extent the barb tho

if i did play wow i would probably play rogue also, unless it is more boring than the assassin in which case it is probably goodbye, as there are not likely any others to hold interest. c'mon, a tank? a healer? some slow mediocre average? sry, i don't get off on that haha

diablo series are not real rpgs

console rpgs do tend to differ from pc rpgs significantly and each have their recognizable styles, but d2 is laughable

i am not actually a big rpg fan even, but i suppose rather a computer gaming fan. i can however recommend games, although old.

old games rarely can have the glory of their youth
    but try
    fallout series
    ultima series

there are a bunch more in the recesses of my mind but i didn't play them so much. others better informed can stand in here

in the old days computers also had a lot of adventure games. those rocked
    space quest series
    quest for glory series
    star control
    etc

I have to admit I definitely enjoyed leading my undead cow army. Those MSLE bosses in 1.09 were no match for 25+ cows. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If you've played a rogue and not been able to powerlevel... you're not playing your rogue right. There's a reason most of the first level 60s were rogues, they're pathetically easy to grind with.

If Zelda is a RPG, then so is Megaman... The only character advancements come from items and objects.

Learn to play your class right, nub !:P

They kill extremely fast and stealth makes it possible to finish quest fast.

I play ladder and non on USEast and really, the only reason I've stayed over the years is that I have a decent group of people to play with. If not for them, then I would have dropped D2 ages ago. Yet we still manage to keep it fun with offbeat characters like enchantresses, mega-golem necros, singing barbs (funny as hell) and clerics (flexible paladin healers that rock the undead)

Meh what sucked is I had a really high necro mancer (it's like the 3rd go on necro) and in 1.09 I made my necro just for cow leveling (Cow runs were sort of fun). Then 1.1 came out and cow runs never happen anymore <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
