This has been around since 1.04. It's not a definite 100% though. If anyone has any proof to prove me wrong go right ahead though.

looked thru my 1.0 demos, and I have a guy with s4 = m00se... that the same thing?

I think it's pretty accurate. After trying said hook against whichbots, I too had this key. It's simply this line in your config file :

Simply removable by deleting the line in config.cfg. You can add your own customized keys for others to see when viewing a demo.

Type setinfo "hello" "ololol". Demofreak will then show this in the key list of demos you are in.

how did you get demofreak to work with NS?

I tried adding the -ns line when using hl.exe...but it just opens hl

i did a test on a lot of my hacker demos, and the ones that were banned from many servers tested positive for NShook, the pige0n variable, and the few that weren't banned that i have dems of, didn't have any variable pige0n in it, i'm not sure if this is 100% accurate way of finding hackers, or determining the good aim vs the hackers or not, but it narrows it down? maybe its 75% accurate :o

hmm, interesting. i think if you found this key with this value in someones config, thats reason enough to temp ban them, pending an explaination from them. obviously, dont tell them what theyve been accused of, first ask them what that key and value mean in their config, making it sound like you're interested in a script they were using or something. if they say something like they were joking around and were pretending to hack, then they're prolly fine and werent hacking. if they say something else like "i dont know" then theres a good chance they were hacking.

anyone agree?

afaik, witchbot can add this line as well.... so the accuracy is really far from 100%

As I understand it S4 pig0n remains in your config even after you have deleated a hack long ago, thus anyone who has ever downloaded and tryed a hack will have it unless they have removed it.

I have no idea weather it is nessicary for hacks to work or not, but it it is there you at very least know that at SOME point that person has hacked, even if it was just agianst witchbot like was mentioned before.

To recap I wouldn't ban people for simply having it, but if you suspect them of hacking anyways it is the kind of thing that could be used for confirmation. As people who have never hacked don't have it. Even then, it is kindof lie detector syndrom, it is quite possible for more competent hackers to not have it, and possible for people who never hacked on your server, or any server with players, to have it as well.

I've known about people putting these values in their config even when they didn't hack for almost... a year and a half now, just so overly suspicious little cal-wannabe admins jump all over them and look stupid.

s4 = pige0n is in no way a good way to determine if someone is using hacks or not. If you see someone having it, though, it doesn't hurt to spectate them and get demos a few times...
