1. You need a range long enough for the scope to be effective.
2. Scopes tend to give a false impression of accuracy, especially true for automatic weapons, like the AUG, or SiG SG552 in CS. The scope crosshair doesn't mean that the shot will hit there.
3. The LMG is a weapon with a high Rate of Fire. Not acknowldging the accuracy problem, the LMG is shoulder held (the stock is pressed into the shoulder for higher accuracy), the weapon would no longer be recoil-less, as the LMG would need to be held an inch or so away from the shoulder to give bolt-kickback space. You don't fire a rifle rapdly whilst having the stock held against your shoulder. The kickback would rip your shoulder off.
BadMouth, secondary fire is implemented by adding a +attack2 command to every weapon. This is not done, seeing as the weapons have not mounted attachments ingame
And, btw, english is awsome Kanky

Or just ignore it, there isn't exactly a long enough corridor that means we can hardly see the alien at the other side.
Best reason yet <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I think that the scope (much like the scope on the pistol in the original Halo) would be nice, but probably only actually USEFUL on custom maps with big, long hallways. That being said, it would be a nice thing to use to scout ahead, but if you look at the environment you are playing in, you usually are in a ship or a mine or something along those lines were there are twisty corridors, narrow halls, nothign that a scope would truly and effectively help.
Damn what a run-on sentence. You can tell I've been on spring break <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
if it were actually useful, it might get over powering?
as aliens only have the close distance, and marines with the medium distance attacks, (pistol for uber long range).
I like the feel now of how the marines are not long ranged, but medium (I think I am talking about the lmg really...but who knows).
More babble....
scope = useless, lmg has wide spread = no point, only useful as a scope not for zooming in, just to check out long distances i.e. top of powersilo 'uh..is that a lerk?'
Scope on the pistol would be extraodinarily ugly.
On the widespread topic, the LMG doesn't have much of a spread. I'd say thats because projectiles are probably supposed to be as advanced as they will ever be, with the exception of recoil.
Kanky going back to seeing the cloaked kharaa scope thingy. Think of NS as a story/movie, in all practices the laser attatched to the helmet would be of better use than the scope.

Like I care how the game looks.
Well, scopes can be effective from any range except close-quarters, really. They can help you hone in on a target, even if they're only at medium range.

I don't see how this becomes any more or less true with a scope crosshair as compared to a regular crosshair. Adjusting for variables is part of shooting, everyone knows nothing will be 100% accurate.

Um.. we've got structures manifesting out of no where, and people "building" them with their bare hands... we've also got jetpackers who can fall from 50 feet and suffer no injuries... many of these things explained with a hokey "nanites" cop-out... I'm pretty sure the way the marines hold the weapon has little or no influence on whether the scope is implemented. =P
Anyway, I don't see a reason for a scope either, just felt like responding to those "reasons".
Also, this is in the wrong forum... Ideas & Suggestions would have been the correct one to post in, which the FAQ within clearly states 'no scopes/secondary fire/sniper rifles'.
All that said,
