HomeLAN - What plans do you have for further public releases for the mod?
Charlie Cleveland - We have big plans here, but we're not ready to release any details yet. A lot of depends on team stamina and our financial situation. Let's just say that we have some totally new experiences planned for the future, things that have never even been attempted to my knowledge.

I think the HL engine is definatley maxed out with NS. The best thing that can happen for the the NS team is getting picked up by a software developer (rockStar, or someone else) and building the game from scratch on a good engine (not that HL engine is bad, I love it, but its showng its age)
There will be a transcript up if i EVER finish it.(its about 6,500 words right now)
yeah, i agree greypaws, getting picked up by a big time publisher would be AWESOME for them.

Yeah, because the game has been out for 18 or 19 days now, ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME FOR THEM TO REBUILD THE GAME FROM SCRATCH ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ENGINE?
No comment on the new game idea stuff. :)

The premise behind Natural Selection (as a game) seems to be to successfully meld FPS with RTS. It's something that hasn't really been tried before, so I'm assuming the developers had this nagging feeling in the back of their heads of "<i>will this really work?</i>".
Even though it's been less than three weeks, it's proven that the combination works. Better yet, it works <b>very well</b> (<i>number tweaks and balancing issues don't count in this argument</i>). The HalfLife engine is, as many others have mentioned, showing its age. When compared to the newer Q3 and UT2003 engines, the HL engine is like a candle compared to the sun.
Yes, I'm fully aware that gameplay is far more important than some of the asthetic qualities that the newer engines are boasting about. In the gameplay department, the HL engine is fully capable of providing great gameplay, and flexible enough to allow such a major addition as a top-down commander view.
Personally, I'm very pleased with this game. I'm not usually much of a gamer, but I've probably logged at least 40+ hours in-game since it was released <3 weeks ago. For a non-gamer, that's a <b>lot</b>.
Anyhow, I'm rambling.. I'll get to the point. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
A custom engine would probably let the developers use a lot of the features that were added to a "<i>love to use, but can't</i>" list. I'm sure it'd be a huge project to build a custom engine, but well worth it in the end.
The question is, <i>would</i> it be worth it? The game works wonderfully as it is. Why mess with a good thing?
I'm assuming you have never played Battlezone 1 or 2?

Common you could make major $$ sides you want to leave a mark on the world dont ya? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> keep up the good work!
Actually, it wasn't half bad. I bought it the day it came out (<i>one of the very few games I've bought, btw</i>), played it for a few weeks, now I'm bored of it. It was enjoyable being able to see all the C&C structures and vehicles from a 1st-person view, but the game eventually became like every other FPS with vehicles (IMO).

Yeah, I played the first one and liked it for a while. However, comparing NS to BZ is like saying they're two sides of the same coin. Distinctly different, but similarities do exist.
It's like comparing skiers and snowboarders - they both go down the same mountain, but have their own methods for doing it.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->tribes and battle zone<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I haven't played Tribes, but heard it's a blast. I might have to give it a shot someday. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
lol is there an address we can send you money at? or some other means? It feels wrong to get 60 hours of entertainment for free <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Best thing that would happen is _IF_ Half-Life 2 or the ever elusive Team Fortress 2 came out --- and it turned out that converting NS and all the other mods would be a minor task. But I betcha none of these hypothetical scenarios are going to happen any time soon <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> If ever. Love NS for what it is now. Pretty darned good I say...
You do know you can get the same effect without using 3D glasses - just stick your face right up against the screen (this was _somehow_ discovered by someone at a LAN party I was hosting. Needless to say, there were a lot of stupid-looking people with headaches that night).
do you have Vsync diasabled in advanced options in the open GL tab? I average 60-99 FPS in COMM
Now, there are Tribes mods, such as shifter, that VASTLY expand the building aspect of the game with all sorts of turrets, force fields, walls, etc.
so ya.
a rather fun way of giving them money,
buy some ns merchandise, <a href='http://www.cafeshops.com/thensstore' target='_blank'>here</a>
Firearms has more stratagy than Tribes 2 for god's sake.
Citizens demand comment.
Tribes and Tribes 2 do have the ability to see the setting as a map and issue orders, but anyone in that mode is impotent except for the ability to commandeer turrets to control directly. There's very little way to actually give a meaningful contribution to the team as a commander, you're much better off just shooting someone. The Kharaa is pretty much identical to standard Tribes play, except without the vehicles. An organized free for all. Great team game, but not the same.
I've only briefly played Battlezone 2, and I see a slight similarity in that you actually build base structures, but never saw anything resembling a commander in it. Maybe I just missed it, dunno.

Is there a version up with better quality? It sounds like a skulk is giving the interview.
<!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'm playing through Battlezone II again right now, and yes, it does have a commander view. Those spiffy relay bunkers do it.
I do think this is the first game that pulls off the RTS/FPS multiplayer combination well. very well in fact.
