I can't believe some stupid americans (no offense) actually campaigned to CHANGE THE TITLE, yes I'm sure that Tolkien, when he wrote the books some half a century ago, was actually referencing Bin Laden.. As you americans say, 'What----everrrrr!'

It never ceases to amaze me how the Liberals in the U.S. are always trying to make the U.S. more like Europe. Yet, somehow, they are constantly fueling the "Americans are Stupid" movement in the rest of the World. Supposedly you Europeans speak the U.S. Liberals language. Maybe you can straighten them out.
I can't even imagine the "guilt" these fruits are feeling over the title of a book/movie. Absolutely mind boggling.
Holy crap! I had heard those morons were trying to get their panties in a wad about the name of the movie, but I had no idea they acutally made a website about it all......
Ok enough of that. The Two Towers does look freakin' awesome. I have friends that have read the books (I have too) and friends that havn't. The ones that havn't (my wife included) were completely blown away by The Fellowship of the Ring. But us that have read the books just sit back and tell them, that is *nothing* compared to what is going to go down in the next two movies!!
OMG, I'm getting myself all fired up! I can't wait now!!
I guess we will go to the midnight showing again. =)

Ah, yes. After posting I thought someone might ask that. It's quite simple really. Anyone who would go to that much trouble to stop someone's "feelings" from being hurt falls directly into that definition. Anyone subscribing to Common Sense can tell the difference between a book written decades ago and the nickname given to an office complex in New York. That being said, I give you a quote from the second posted website ( <a href='http://www.twotowersprotest.org/faq.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.twotowersprotest.org/faq.htm</a> )
" The creators of the movie have free speech, so what makes you think they should have to change the name of the movie? "
"We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11. Clearly, you cannot deny the fact that this falls under hate speech. We believe that if they will not willingly change the name, the government should step in to stop the movie's production or to force a name change."
Now, once again anyone using Common Sense knows that Peter Jackson is not utilizing "Hate Speech". Further more, they look to the Federal Government to control the action of private citizens. I'm sure this explaination would be much clearer to someone living in the U.S. but I assure you, the individuals behind this are Liberals.
OK. Call them however you want. Call them Liberals, call them Conservatives, call them Greens, whatever. You will, I'm sure of it, find one or two representatives of your named sentiment amongst them. And you will see how every sane member of the group you named will differentiate himself from them.
This isnt political. This is stupid, the only kind of sentiment found in every interest group on Earth.
A few months back I heard of the movement to force the name of the upcoming JRR Tolkien based movie "The Two Towers" to be changed. I laughed about it, thinking surely this cannot be a serious effort, but apparently it was. I signed the electionic petition against this movement just to show my support for not changing the name, if anybody was really looking. But I never knew the movment was organized enough to actually have an "offical website".
I am the type of person that considers what someone else might be feeling when I disagree with them. I don't automatically jump to the "they are idiots" conclusion. So when I found your website I decided to to give it a good read to figure out exctally what the problem was.
It was going very well until I read this passage in your faq:
We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11. Clearly, you cannot deny the fact that this falls under hate speech. We believe that if they will not willingly change the name, the government should step in to stop the movie's production or to force a name change.
I truly cannot comprehend how anyone would think this is true. The movie is based on the second part of the Lord of the Rings, which happens to be named "The Two Towers". The movie was simply named after the book it is based on. Did Tolkien intentionaly name the book "The Two Towers" in order to "capitalize on the tragedy of September 11"? I hope you realize that this is what you are implying...
Furthermore the movie version of "The Two Towers" had already completed filming more than a year prior to Sept. 11 2001. The movie release date for the movie was offically set several months *before* the World Trade Center was attacked. The names of the movies have been decided on for several years now, it could be said the name of the movie was already set when Tolkien's books became so popular.
I really do fail to see how anyone could think the name of this movie shold be changed. But that is your opinion, we disagree and that is fine. But I cannot believe you woud go as far to claim that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema are trying to make money off the terrorist attack. That is truly sick.
I am glad to know that Peter Jackson stood firm in his decision not to change the name of this file, because that too would be a tragedy.
Thanks for that site, Jobabob. That petition has to be one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. Here's some select entries for those who don't have as much free time as me:

Heh heh... funny stuff. There are many more, but these made me chuckle.
Jackson should listen to their just cause and change the name to something more appropriate during these harsh times, like "Lord of the Rings: What Does it Take to Win Towers?"
I'll of course see it at the midnight premiere <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'm happy that I'm going to watch the midnight-premiere and before that the first part.
It'll be my first 6-hours-nonstop-movie-experience and I'm already worried about next year, when I'll probably watch 9 hours LOTR and then have to go to school...
I think I will go see the midnight showing. But one of my partner's wife is pregnant, and she will be pretty close to her date in Dec. so if she doesn't want to go he might. But I'm sure my wife and our other friends will go. =)
Lucky me, I'll be in social service by that time -> Slack-o-Rama <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
But yeah, I'm also pretty worried about how I'll take that marathon (6 hours plus two hours pause here).
What does everyone think about the extended DVD of <b>Fellowship</b>? I could understand why they had to cut it down since it was already 3 hrs and a some of the 30 minutes they cut made sense. But there was quite a bit that I felt was necessary. Like the scene where they get the cloaks. Before that, all we knew is that out of nowhere they all had the same cloaks. Like in that example, some of the cuts made it look like just bad directing until you see the full length version. A lot of times I got confused on the first one because it seemed to jump around in certain scenes, but it all makes sense with the extended version. Maybe just me, though...
<!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->I wholeheartedly agree with you and your opinions on the upcoming film 'The Two Towers'.

Its funny when you think about it, but the same kind of people that make this petition probably make up most of the world's population, and also run the world (hence, politics <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> ) It is these people that make certain my future will be unhappy and full of pain. If theres one thing I can say before this is closed, its this:
If whoever created that sight were to really look upon and analyse what he/she were doing, they'd see that they themselves are reminding those affected by 11/09 of the tragedies committed, much more than 3 words in a film title ever could.
What precious little force I had left in me that every day stopped me from sobbing into my pillow has failed. I have sobbed, and the man responsible is before you. It is he who started the petition.
Ok, someone explain to me exactly what is happening in plain words, it is confusing me. What was the books name? What is the movies name? And who changed it?
