Ready Room Exploit!

<div class="IPBDescription">this is important</div> I was playing a few seconds ago when something occurred to me...if any player wanted to, he/she could use the ready room as a way to more quickly return to spawn.

OK, imagine this. Your spawn is being attacked. You're at the opposite end of the map...All you have to do is press F4 and join your team and bam you're at spawn.

There needs to be a system to prevent this. I haven't seen someone use this in play yet, but it IS an exploit.

    Errr...

    The time it takes to get to the readyroom, join the marine team, and finish the obligatory wait in the line to respawn would make running back to base seem the much better and more efficient choice.

    Or you know. Take the time to walk back and then shoot the aliens in the rear, or 'kill' yourself.

    Press F4 and join team in Ready Room = 2 seconds, easily.

    Wait for respawn = 10 to 15 seconds, approximately, at maximum.

    Total = 16 seconds.

    Quicker then walking the entire map back to spawn, which can take 20 seconds.

    Think what you may, personally I find running back to base much more viable of an option, considering I'd get the jump on the damned Kharaa anyway.

    2 seconds in the readyroom? You must be pretty fast.

    Most of the readyrooms are big enough that it takes about 6-10 seconds to get to a team door, more if you're playing on Hera. That plus the respawn wait means a 21-25 second delay getting back to base. By my estimation, that's at least 1-5 seconds longer than it takes to walk over there myself.

    I don't think it's an issue.

    it would take longer than just typing kill, which would have the same effect

    Actually I forgot to put in there "If you're smart, you'll only use the exploit if you have no goodies as a marine or alien to spare. (Such as HMG or HA as marine, or evolution or armor upgrades as alien)

    -On some maps it's easy to reach a team in the Ready Room in 2 seconds, such as ns_nancy. Some it can take up to 6 seconds, yes. But still, it's an exploit for those 2 second maps.

    Kill is faster, but a way to lose frags.

    Or do you even get a frag count as marine? lol. i never really paid attention, since NS isn't so based on frags and getting all the kills...which is awesome.

    or... say you are commander and your entire team is away taking a hive, then all of the sudden your base gets overun, the commander yells "TOWN PORTAL" and the entire team types kill in console, thus leaving the commander to use the Distress Beacon Ability at the Observatory and spawn the entire team at base immeadiately...

    Well, marines dont have frags to lose. also, choosing a team in the ready room doesnt spit you out into your spawn instantly....its only slightly quicker than "kill" but combined with the time it takes to go thru the ready room and pick a team its pretty slow.

    I think beyond the first 30 seconds of game start there should be a 5-10 second delay from the ready room anyway. If a person dies legit and has to respawn normally they have a delay.

    Or better yet, the smart commander would build phase gates in important outposts, that way, when the base is under attack, just jump into the portals and you're HA'd+HMG'd arse is in the base ready to kick kharaa patootie.

    Most CS leagues have a rule that taking your "life" if not allowed. I would guess NS leagues having the same rule. And calling this a Exploit is not correct.

    And if a 8 man team killed it self. How long would it take for it too respawn ?? LOOOONG, it would be alot faster too run too the closest phase gate.

    Distress beacon automatically respawns all dead players at their original starting points. Ie: no respawn waits.

    Only ready room problem I see is on this one map where you start in these little niches, if you don't move fast someone can run up and block you. Or if you get 2 people on hera? they can stand in the doorway choke point and no one can get past to join a team.

    on ns_bast it took me exactly 5 seconds to join marines, starting from the VERY BACK of ready room spawn. i timed it perfectly with a stop watch.

    Congratulations. A key bound to kill still teleports you immediately to the spawn line, and "immediately" is faster than any amount of time you might manage to get crossing the ready room down to.

    As for the blocking in the ready room... would it be possible to make it so that ready room players don't clip into each other? Solve that problem real fast...

    what happens if you get stuck by a building and have to kill yourself to get free? Would that mean you were using an exploit?     phase gates are things newer commanders often forget and are invaluable as they are so cheap to build and mean movement times for marines is cut into a tiny fraction leaving them able to attack/defend places that otherwise would be impossible.

    I think the thing that the original poster is forgetting is that joining the team from the ready room DOES NOT bypass the spawn time. So as has been pointed out... /kill is always going to be faster.

    If you read all the posts I made you would have noticed I left out "Only a smart marine would use this exploit if he/she didn't have HMG, HA, or any other resource costing weapon/item." in the first one.

    LOL, "town portal".. that's pretty funny. Never saw that before.

    Personally, I hate using "kill" and will only call upon it's suicidal powers if I'm stuck in a vent or in a structure.
