Luckily I learnt from the C&C not to buy anymore RTS games.
Basically, each one is a C&C clone. With a slight addition to it each time.
But thanks for reminding us all anyway.

Heh I wish this game was a C&C clone.

C&C > RON anyday.

Command Conquer Generals was terrible. I remember playing Red Alert back in the day, but RON > C&C Generals

I like Generals enough to play it every once and awhile, even though I'm bad at it. I loved homeworld 2, and it takes me everything I have not to buy it when I go into a game store. (I have too many video games. I don't need another one, and I need those 40 dollars for other things)

I started my RTS career on Age of Empires, though. I love that game..

I think it was the original Warcraft that took my RTS virginity, but I'm not sure.
• PvtBonesPvtBones Join Date: 2004-04-25 Member: 28187Members
there are only 3 RTS's I can stand to play AOE2, EE1, and HW2. what they did to EE2 was unforgivable, all they needed to do was up the graphics, add a new feature here and there, improve the AI and they would of been set.

I played the demo of EE2 and thought it was a spiritual successor to RON or something, because the loading screens and everything else looked identical. Really crappy game though.

I wonder if the makers of RON could sue Mad Doc?

I mean they could make a pretty convincing case simply by getting two computers and comparing the two games.

I would throw the book at them, and also the shelf from which it came.

Close, but no cigar.
.Star Wars: Warlords
Star Wars: Warlords > all.
If you have homeworld 2, get this mod NOW. If you guys want me to, I'll put up a thread about it, I've got some nice screenies.

Now to actually contribute tot he thread...
EEII sounds absolutley horrid. Thanks for the heads up, I'll avoid it. I thought Medieval Total War was better then rome in some aspects. I also liked the setting better. I wonder what's up next for the total war series..

Rome: Total War
C&C Red Alert 2
C&C Generals
Warcraft III
Starcraft
Myth II
Dune

Well, they're not all alike and directly comparable, really.

Rome: Total War is different from the rest in that there are effectively two games: the turn-based managerial side, where you look after your cities and build/move armies. Whenever two armies bump into each other, it moves to a battlefield in real time. Have you ever played Civilisation or the like? Imagine Civ, but whenever armies fight, you control the fight yourself. You can actually let the computer auto-generate the results of a fight, but you can probably do better.

Age of Empires 2 is pure RTS, but there's a lot more depth to the macro (resource management, research, etc.) than there is in a lot of RTSs. I'd suggest picking it up cheap, because it is definately one of the (if not the) RTS greats.

C&C: Red Alert 2 was pretty awesome, but I don't know how well it's aged. Same with Dune, although I hated those damn sandworms. (I assume you're not talking about Dune 2000 or whatever, which was arse IIRC.) Yuri's Revenge was pretty crazy, though, IIRC.

I never bought Generals. At the time, my computer wouldn't have been able to run it; and later, I heard bad things about it.

I enjoyed WCIII, but it all revolves around the hero and micro. SC revolves around the latter - I never got into SC (ZERG RUSH KEKEKKEKEKE ^_^), but you can pick up SC + its expansion pack dead cheap. Might as well give it a whirl.

Why do people say Dune instead of Dune 2? Dune was a completely different game.

It did feature elements of strategy games, though.

In any case, both Dune and Dune 2 pwn (yes present tense - yay for DOSBox!)

When it was released it was:

A resources hog (Like doom3 when it was released)

The most buggiest game ever in the histroy of mankind

The game had so many bugs when it was released, it was not even funny. Half of them still havent been fixed, and support for the game has fallen off the face of the earth. You should have seen the Generals forums when it was released. It was not pretty....

The expansions pack for Generals silkens things up quite a bit.

My only gripe with it is that rocket soldiers > all, but whatever. I can micro their lasers, so I'm not complaining.
