well that's the strange thing badmouth... there's lil tidbits in some of the games that show that the wii is actually perfectly capable of approximating what you're up to pretty well when it wants to.
To see a small example of it, start up some wii baseball and move the bat around (without moving it fast enough to swing obviously). It tracks how you're holding the bat surprisingly well :o
I played with someone elses Wii for the first time a few weeks ago. Gold and Tennis are definitely my favorites. I think we played Tennis for a good 4 hours before we all experienced severe arm pain haha. We just couldn't stop playing.
Everytime I play Tennis I learn something new. The game is surprisingly deep. Right now I can easily beet level 400 bots.
Tennis is tons of fun with other people. Golf is okay for hotseating, and Bowling is tons of fun too. Baseball is probably the weakest in the group, but whenever we do play it, I try to make my character hold the bat like a ninja sword. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
In breaking news, Bomberman '93 on the virtual console is actually the first bomberman game made after the arcade version. It's so similar to the original that I practically grew up on that I was giggling with explosions of nostalgia as we played. It's ace!!! :D
5 players. For. The. Win!
Oh... anyone know if that 'Dungeon Explorers' or whatever on the graphfx16 type console is any good? The idea of a 5 player coop action RPG (ala the D&D arcade games) just sounds too good to pass up :3

I really should have known better than to pre-order from GAME. My thinking at the time was "They're the biggest retailer in the UK, they're bound to have more Wii's than everyone else", wheras my thinking SHOULD have been "They're the biggest retailer in the UK, so EVERYONE is going to be pre-ordering with them."
Apparently my pre-order is part of the "second batch" to reach the UK. I can only hope this "second batch" reaches me soon. I'm bursting for a Wii.

Just a quick question. I'm living in southeast asia and the wii has yet to grace my country. But I'm going to europe for holiday. If I buy a wii in Europe, then come back to southeast asia and buy games in southeast asia, would the games work on a european wii?

Like Jimmeh says, I'm afraid you're out of luck if you want to import. One oddity though is that the wii shop you have / are allowed access to and buy games from is based on the region of the console rather than your payment details apparently. So if you bought a japanese wii you get access to the japanese virtual console games and can buy and play them, even though your billing address would be wherever :o
My housemate has one an I have to say im rather impressed. The golf + tennis are so much fun multiplayer, same for bowling too. I think though i prefer the new zelda game for the gamecube cus of the whole having to move ur arm to slash ur sword gets boring rather quickly
I've beaten Zelda:TP twice and I don't think I ever needed to swing my arm(I was also sitting down while playing). My wrist, sure, but that takes no effort. Personally, I wouldn't want to play TP on the GCN because the combat is so fluid on Wii.
Think of the Wiimote-swinging as an extra button that doesn't require much thought to push. I thought it would be a gimmick when I first heard about it, but it really does work well.
The Wiimote swinging in Zelda is roughly equivalent to moving your mouse around in an FPS, so unless you feel NS is an intense physical workout, it shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure not to point at the sensor bar while swinging it. It doesn't like that and you'll end up swinging an extra 20 degrees to get it to register. But thats no big deal, I find pointing the wiimote down gives me better access to the D-Pad.
I'm kinda on the same boat as Isamil, though for different reasons. I do enjoy the Wiimote combat and do find it more fun than the GC but my biggest concern about the GC version is there is only two items slots. X and Y. Z is taken up by Midna. I was kinda annoyed with the amount of item swapping I had to do in the Wii version, and that was with 4 item slots. I'd probably just get a lot more frustrated with the GC version. Oh, and the B-Trigger. It seems like a bit of a pain at first, but it really makes the items more accessible. There was something about having to push a little button up in the corner of the controller a bunch of times to use my items that I never really liked. The worst of all being the Great Fairies Sword from Majoras Mask. With the B-Trigger system I can keep slashing/dodging/jumping in-between item use or even just while I'm using it.
Oh, and instant spin attacks with a cool down beat spin attacks with a charge time or instant via joystick twiddling any day.
ANeM has stated my thoughts on TP's mechanics far better than I could.
This game just gets better and better. I'm on either the last or 2nd to last or something dungeon now.
If you love the old Link To The Past and/or Ocarina then you should pick this up ASAP because it simply oozes the best of both from a style/"game world" perspective.
As awesome as Twilight Princess is (Its like OoT but they've ranked up the 'epic' factor) I think its the RE4 style instant action stuff that really makes it good. You know, like the wolf jumping or the whole walk up to death mountain (The first time.)
Not to mention all the cool new things to do, like Sumo! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Hrm, so many conflicting things on the internet. And reviews are all but useless. Most of them talk about the history of Nintendo and how innovative they are with this new console etc... In other words "bla bla bla bla" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
I'm considering getting a Wii though, but am still not sure. I mean I've been out of the console branch since... SNES, I've occasionally played on a playstation1&2, Xbox, gamecube and N64. I vaguely remember playing on the 32X/segacd as well. But those were just small gaming sessions and didn't impress me at all, with a few exceptions... I even own 2 handhelds (GBA/PSP)
This Wii has cought my eye with for example FPS or Melee games. Meh I'll go to our local gamestore to see how it actually plays. I'm concerned with the actual sensitivity of it. I mean does it actually do what you want it to do ingame and how much motion is possible with this sensor on the tv? And these promo videos aren't any help either XD
Basically there's 2 uses for the motion sensitivy, one is just a makeshift button more or less, the other, which is the interesting bit, is when it imitates something your character does to at least some extent.
For instance, in the coming Metroid Prime, you have a grapple hook thingy, with it you can also pull something you've grabbed towards you/apart. this last bit of pulling is afaik done by pulling the nunchuck back and upwards - all the while you aim using the wiimote's pointing device. Imo this is how the nunchuck should be used, sadly, it's not all games you can do this. the make-shift button is pretty much just a gimmick really - though, it's easier to access more "buttons" with it, seeing you use another part of you to do it(ie. your arm or wrist) instead of letting your fingers do everything.
Also, in Wii Sports baseball the bat follows the wiimote pretty well. I could also mention an "imitation" bit from Zelda, but I'll avoid it as some people might regard it as a minor spoiler, it's about the gameplay, not story though.
Scooter, I'm not quite if by the controller breaking you meant the safe-guard strap - but nintendo is offering to ship the new beefier ones - the first shipment or two had 0.6mm straps at the thing part, the new ones are 1mm. the new(er) shipments of Wiis and wiimotes have the new straps. try snooping around their website, can't remember the exact link atm, as I already placed my "order" some days ago.
Kouji_San, Concerning the sensitivity, the wii itself has 5 levels of sensitivity affecting the pointer alone i think, and whether or not the sensor bar is above or below your TV. But some games also has more options than that, Zelda for instance, that takes into account how big the TV is compared to the sensor bar (asks you to change a centered bar onscreen to fit the width of the sensor bar, also has settings for height adjustment)
The thing is, after setting up that thing I suddenly made a specific move much easier - before I had to pretty much thrust the nunchuck my entire forearm-length forward(also, had to be rather fast, and generally had a hard time doing the move :X), after doing it, 5-10cm did it. While it's possible that I just got suddenly used to how to do it, I doubt it.. Anyway, the point is, remember to set up everything you can, as it's going to be much better that way, I think doomie also made a point of this earlier concerning Super Monkey Ball.

First, I wanted to buy one as a first day Hanukkah gift, but Sam's Club was out of them so I had to wait until someone returned one to the store, which wasn't until two days later.
Then, after about only eight hours of non-continuous playtime the poorly constructed controller ripped apart while I was playing, causing serious injury to our two-year-old daughter's eye and a traumatic visit to the hospital at 9 in the evening.
Not long after that, our copy of Wii Sports "mysteriously" disappeared. Colin had some friends over, and one of them was an African American that doesn't go to Colin's school. If any of you are black, I'm not saying you people all steal, I'm just saying I very much doubt one of his white friends would have taken it.
So all in all I'd say if you're thinking about buying a Wii for the holidays, think it over very carefully before you do, because in my experience it is not worth the trouble. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> I don't think you're giving the Wii a fair trial at all. 1) The quality of the console is entirely unrelated to its availability. The Wii itself is not to blame for the fact that you waited and were unable to get one. I stood outside a Gamestop for five hours (yes, five!) from 5am to 10am to get one of six Wiis they had gotten in for that day. I was the fourth to arrive, and it was the fourth store I had checked (even at 4:30am, all the others had much longer lines). But unlike you, I *did* get one -- and I got a new one, not a returned system (I don't think I would ever get a returned system this soon after launch, anyway).
2) I'm not sure how the "poorly constructed controller ripped apart," but as mentioned above the only thing I can imagine is that the wrist strap snapped (<a href="http://www.wiihaveaproblem.com" target="_blank">exhibit A</a>). First of all, no offense but there is no need to move the controller so violently that the strap is in danger of breaking. Secondly, Nintendo is offering free replacement straps (though it is as a "peace of mind" gesture; they maintain that the original straps passed all their safety tests).
3) Are you seriously giving the Wii bad marks because one of Colin (your son?)'s friends may have stolen a game disk? _______
Yeah, a series of unlucky or unfortunate occurances can sour even the worthiest of experiences, but don't be so quick to write off the Wii. And don't pile blame on the console itself for events that it really had nothing to do with (points 1 and 3).

what would you do with a wii sports game? you cant sell it because every system comes with one. and if you have a wii to play it on, you already have it. what an idiot kid. and why did you buy a returned system? they obviously returned it for a reason. it wasnt because they "just didnt want it" because if that were the case they could sell it online for a profit, but im sure its not the case because who would stand outside for hours to get something they might not even want? ive yet to hear anything from anyone about the controller coming apart at all, so the most likely case is that either it was broken by the previous owner, or you broke it, unless it was just the wrist strap which broke, which means that you just broke it.

And don't pile blame on the console itself for events that it really had nothing to do with (points 1 and 3).
better luck next time.
