Anyway, I made an alt to test the defenses and i have to say that I was impressed by the speed with which it dispatched frigates. Having said that, I've noticed that my boss only bought rail and blaster defenses, which means our POS only does kinetic and thermal damage types. This is not so good, so I was thinking about putting an artillery unit in there with some EM or explosive ammo, just to make the damage more well rounded... You fancy folks, probably have citadel launchers and such, right? so pricey...
No. We are busy trying to get ISS to engage when they have 100 and we have 10. And by "we" I mean KIATolon.
Also, RA got pretty close to killing Shrike's Titan today. Apparently a BoB mothership was in danger, so the titan came in to help it, and it looks like they had to sacrifice a couple carriers to get the Titan out in structure.
Of course, there is only one reactor running at a time due to low CPU, but the diagram is a conceptual process flow... We've built all of this, including some tasty defenses. I wonder how much money this can make per month...
In other news , BoB killed their second (D2) Titan ! Same cause (pilot logs with timer) , same effect - but there is more to it...
People have been very quick to cry "h4x" but an official D2 statement confirmed it was a legit kill. The key to this was a BoB spy in D2 , flying a covert ops ship next to the Erebus class Titan right before it logged , sneakily detonating a miniature shockwave to trigger the aggression timer. Nobody noticed this as the Titan warped to its demise.
Meanwhile , the BoB capital fleet jumped in right in time to attack the stranded ship , with D2 powerless to save it. While it was not much of a combat , it is a display of evil brilliance in this galaxy-wide alliance war.

I'm no expert on POS mining setups, but it looks solid enough to me. There is a lot of money to be made with the <i>right</i> moon minerals. What those may be, and in what combination, I do not know.

If BoB would've spent another week supporting LV instead of defending Fountain, I honestly feel they might have lost a titan to RA because Shrike messes around with it too much.
And, while I do appreciate the scale of BoB's plan to kill D2's titan, I do feel it's a little cheap because the PvP logoff timer mechanic, and generally logging off while in space, is a little messed up. This seems to have become more apparent somewhat recently. First you have the improved probing, making it possible to probe out people who logoff in space somewhere safe with a normal timer. Then you have the emergence of large numbers of supercapitals who need to log off in space. And recently I've been hearing reports of people who log off at a friendly POS and when they emergency warp, then end up at a hostile POS.

This is <i>clearly</i> an exploit of the aggro timer and log-off mechanics. Just because they employed daring in their use of a covert-ops ship should not obscure that. I'd bet you 1M ISK that CCP will change this somehow.

Great thread NeonSpyder <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> I've always shirked away from the mmo's, but eve online looks like quality. The player run political aspect of the game sounds brilliant, with all the different corporations with their own vested interests. So i've got the client and signed up for the trial, but i'm not really sure on what is the best path to take for a new player.
I don't really fancy mining for all of the 14 days, or running the npc missions. I love the social aspects of online games (especially mmo's), talking to experienced players and perhaps helping them out in a way or two. Whether that's just running as a decoy for a fight or whatever. It's great when you feel that you're part of something bigger than just yourself. Could anyone recommend me a newbie-friendly corporation (or group or what have you), if one exists at all. I'd be happy to be a runner or whatever, just to get a feel for the game and socialize with people.

Joooooin uuuuussss... we will give you muffffinnnss... oh. Wait! NO! That won't work at all! You're the muffin man, you would have to give <i>us</i> muffins!
Essentially though, I look for quality people for my corp regardless of skillpoints. If you're a good lad, you're in. Sense of humour is mandatory though so if you can't take a joke about italians or minmatar or any other minority group we're going to have a problem.
If not, welcome to EVE! I'll make sure you experience only the shiniest of explosions. Log your character into our Aristotle_Public communications channel and chat with me (Michus Danether) or my corpmates and we'll sort you out, even if all you'd like is advice we give that out freely. If you don't know how to open a comm channel.. er... uh... try private convo'ing me or sending me an evemail or something. P.P.P.P.F.S I originally wanted to thank you muffins for commenting on the awesomeness of my thread. I put great care into my original thread starting post, and I think it shows quite nicely and has set the tone for the rest of the thread.
Cheers Spyder, i'll have to take you up on that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
As for a sense of humour, as long as you don't mind a bit of scouse humour then i'll be alright. Being Irish also means that i'm completely sound with jokes about minorities, otherwise i'd have topped myself a long time ago.
I can't promise you real muffins, but perhaps a few virtual muffins on the side could be arranged. TBH i've been on the verge of getting my name changed for ages now, im embarrassed by it at times <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Why for lent? I don't know much about it, so I'm going to abstain from criticism, but... if you don't enjoy playing Eve, stop playing it. It's a waste of money and it's an extra responsibility that nobody needs.
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> well it was sort of a joke... I do enjoy playing eve, Neon. The problem is that I don't have time to balance it with all the other stuff I have to be doing in my life. I don't suspect that I'll be able to play more than an hour a week past May.
NeonSpyder"Das est NTLDR?"Join Date: 2003-07-03Member: 17913Members
Yeah, to be honest I don't think an hour a week is enough for any MMO, even one which is relatively as forgiving as EVE, and to be honest $15 a month is a bit expensive for 4 hours of gameplay, so you're probably better off suspending your eve subscription until you get more bang for your buck.
As an aside, you will want to set an extremely long skill to train before you suspend your subscription, if you set Battleship 5 to train for instance the day before your subscription runs out it'll still train for your character despite the fact you're not paying or playing.
You'll appreciate it when you start playing EVE again, as having battleship 5 trained is a godsend for the price of free. (or whatever really really long skill you plan to set, such as Mining Barges 5.)
And trust me, you will come back to EVE <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
It took me 9 months but I came back to eve. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> The problem is that it's hard to find skills that take longer than a month to train, even from level 4-5.
NeonSpyder"Das est NTLDR?"Join Date: 2003-07-03Member: 17913Members
The general idea is NOT to train up skills to level 5 unless you really really need it. If you need Gunnery level 5 in order to use T2 guns, then train it. But if you don't need Motion Prediction 5 to do anything, then don't train it.
The skill difference between 4 and 5 is usually only 5%, as it takes like 2 days to train a skill to level 4, but then another 5 or so to train it to level 5... it's almost never worth it to train it to 5 unless you seriously specialize in that area, or need that level 5 to use t2 equipment or ships.
I really, really enjoyed the combat in EVE, especially when I took on multipule NPC ratter things. I know, its all small chump change, but it was fun having sixteen different lockons and stuff. I actually felt like a ship captain.
Here's another EVE topic for y'all. Theft. Corp theft. Ore theft. Ninja looting.
Ore theft, I understand. I don't actually do it myself, but I understand it. And it is actually quite funny. I think someone mentioned this already in the thread...
Ninja looting is less funny because it probably involves greater value. Especially on big spawns. Its still a little funny though. Its harder now, since you can't scan for NPC pirates before they become wrecks, but in deadspaces, it still happens.
Contrast these relatively benign activities with corp theft. I think this is a huge problem. I thought the threat was mostly from corp members, but as I have painfully learned in the last couple weeks, it can also be a problem from the CEO! CEOs who decide that they have a secret plan for the money in the wallet and fail to provide ANY accountability are, in effect, stealing from the corp members. It takes a while to realize this, since they are often the sole proprietor of corp funds, but its theft nonetheless.
Short of turning to piracy or hiring mercenaries, there is nothing you can do except leave and find less greedy people to fly with. There is no other recourse process in the world of EVE. Where the %!@# is Johnny Cochrane when you need him!?
stoopid: If you want to get revenge on somebody, lure them into another corp you control. Then have your friends war-dec that corp and camp the guy 24/7. Continually give the guy his roles back so that he can't quit.

Of course, there is only one reactor running at a time due to low CPU, but the diagram is a conceptual process flow... We've built all of this, including some tasty defenses. I wonder how much money this can make per month...
Thoughts?

Where the %!@# is Johnny Cochrane when you need him!?
stoooooop
Haha!
stoopid: If you want to get revenge on somebody, lure them into another corp you control. Then have your friends war-dec that corp and camp the guy 24/7. Continually give the guy his roles back so that he can't quit.
Haha!

While corp theft is not an exploit or against the rules in any way, what was described in the above quote is. Don't do it.
