    It's realistic. Comming in a large server takes a lot of attention, and I don't always have time to go "zzz and yyy, you two go cap Triad side, xxx go through Station Access to West Core and get a phase gate" etc. Besides, you'd be surprised how many marines don't listen to orders - I've found the best way to get marines to do something is to beacon them so they move together.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    That is a problem I never understood. When I was new, I listened to EXACTLY what the commander told me and went to the waypoints becuase I had no idea what I was doing otherwise. It seems most newbies don't do that.

    But I wouldn't recommend beaconing them. They get ###### off by that and will try to eject you.

    i just do not understand how dumb some of the players are, i can understand people having bad aim, maybe not knowing the map too well, but some players are seriously retarded

    somehow commanding needs to be easier to learn, i dont think commanding has even been altered at all. the main problems i find with pubs is that the comm is either retarded or aliens drop scs first and then get destroyed as soon as they drop the 2nd hive and then complain about how unbalanced ns is.

    All active players should feed their data into a central database and be categorized according to their kill ratio. Then there should be three categories of servers available: Novice, Advanced, and Professional. You could only join a server that you are categorized to.

    Nice fix, eh? Now figure out how to get all of this info fed to a central location.... ... .. . <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    Beginner-ranked players should have access to Beginner and Intermediate servers. Intermediate players should have access to Intermediate and Professional servers. Professionally ranked players should consider team play as their next option.

    ranking someone as a professional in this game is ridiculous and shows how sad some peoples' lives are. professional ns as a career.. laughing out loud

    I agree about commanding. The Commander mode needs to receive a interface overhaul.

    And lol at ranking, NS isnt BF2

    jealous? i'd be jealous if they were getting money off it. and that's the whole point: there's no money involved in ns, so it's pretty hard to play it professionally (meaning as a profession).

    Not only are you blatantly jealous, but you are also resorting to semantics to try save face. Professional is commonly used in context to describe individuals who are skilled in an activity of discussion.

    The word "professional" takes on a different significance to folks who have to fill out a W4 to call themselves one.

    It's pretty ignorant to assume that "professional" NS players don't have to pay taxes. Is that what you're trying to say?

    I've been asked maybe 5 times in years of playing about strategy/comming/playing better and gone out of my way every time to try to teach the person something. The skill level gap is not merely experienced players that refuse to assist someone new/bad.

    On a completely unrelated note everyone in my clan seems to be permabanned from tactical gamer and many of us don't recall ever playing on the server.

    The problem is that most time while pubbing no one wants to command, and when someone gets in the chair, 9 times out of 10 its some idiot that can barely med/ammo properly. I fully agree that a good commander should be a strategist in all forms possible but in terms of reality, you're not going to find many comms who's strategy doesn't consist of dropping turrets whenever possible.

    By the way its "lose" not "loose."
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    By the way it's "whose" not "who's" also "it's" not "its" (domining).

    I've suggested this before. I'm what you would consider a noob pubber. I like it when they ban guys that go 100-2 because the server ends up more fun in the end. That means less rage quits, less complaining, and more "gg" after games.

    I thought the NSA Veteran server was friggen wonderful because it kept the hardcore players out of pub games. They tend to respond to everything with "get skill. noob" but why not just have them go play with other skilled players instead owning causal pubbers?

    btw being killed instantaneously over and over again does not make you want to get better, it makes you want to stack marines or quit until the offender has left the server.

    For the sake of argument let's say I operated three servers, one each for Novice, Advanced, and Professional players. Once the players were established in the database according to their kill ratio, they could attempt to join any of the three, but would be forced to join the one with equally skilled players. Once you elevated to the top 5 or 10% of that class you would have the option to advance or stay. Once you reached the top you'd automatically be forced to the next level.

    "Many of you" have poor memories (but, then, it's been a long time ago for many of you). You were playing on TGNS on October 4th, 2006 when you earned (we don't just "give" them out) yours. If any of you has any questions about those bans, our ban appeal policies are well documented in our Rules forums. Regardless, no banning has ever occurred on TGNS due to any affiliation with any NS clan. Each banned is earned, not given.

    That sounds very good. I'd be ecstatic to consistently play with players at my own skill level.

    Although the actual semantics of rating and advancement could get a little hairy.

    I mean in NS you could get 100 kills by spawncamping the end of the game with jp/ha/hmg. One possible solution could be only rate at the beginning of a match where raw skill is most important and before the RTS slippery slope kicks in.

    Also if no one happens to be playing the server you're locked into that would suck.. Possibly allow you to regress to lower level servers but if a novice player joins then much like reserved slots it would kick the advanced player to make room for the novice player (when full).

    Yeah, I'd pay for a reserved slot on that.

    Most teams won't have these many servers, and only sometime more than one will fill up with players. I belive a good game IS possible as soon as both teams have to be equal in strength and teamsize. So i won't allow a game with all good players on one side and all less good on the other. This policy is enforced in all NS maps and works great so far. The rules are hard, but fair. The price to pay is, that most CAL/ENSL players refuses to play on server's with such restrictions, but as most of them won't follow commander's order, won't communicate (voice_enable 0..) and won't ever build anything for their team, it's ok for me. And hell, they tend to stack together.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":angry:" border="0" alt="mad-fix.gif" />

    actually, all i was arguing about was semantics. call those players that are clearly better than me "elite" or "advanced" or something similar, rather than professional. cpl is professional gaming, the ensl isnt <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    as for jealousy: in my case, it has moved on from being attached to "skills in ns" to other areas in life, as have most of my interests. i'm sure youre much better than me at this game, and frankly it doesnt bother me one bit.

    If you've moved on to other aspects of life, that's great. But I don't really see a point in you arguing in semantics unless you really are jealous. You could simply let good players be called whatever they want to be called. It's also a misconception that good players don't have lives/play video games all day/don't have jobs/don't have careers. You're making it sound that way.

    Back on topic: I was suggesting a ranking system in NS2 servers in the suggestions forum, but based on more than just k:d ratio. If the idea is not implemented officially, it would be great to see if a server could develop a mod to try something along the same lines. I doubt you'd get anything done with how NS is right now in terms of playercount. However, I think it would solve a lot of problems with game balance if skill was properly distributed to appropriate servers.

    In no way am I suggesting all-pro servers with how NS is right now. It's not viable for anything more than 6v6. Maybe NS2 will fix this somehow and make all-pro servers work with playercounts >6.

    The game won't <i>render</i> more than 100 fps, but it will still calculate more than 100 for the purpose of the half a dozen features of NS that are still framerate dependant, like Jetpack movement and machinegun fire rate. There are certain benefits to being able to force your system to weird framerate numbers like 121. I keep mine at 89. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    And yes, I am a professional troll. I get paid by a company that installs spyware on my computer and records my trolling. That or I have too much time on my hands.
