    On a sidenote, I saw MC also already being used in 1.04 although hardly.
    Yet even then it had its good uses.

    Reason people used DC instead of MC back then, was because their lifeform handling basicly sucked. They relied on tanking more than actually doing the damage. Alas when time went on, people got better and realised that they actually benefit more of being faster, than being able to soak up more bullets.(you gotta remember the hitboxes were funky back then)

    And yeah MC was el'pheer 's "thing", it was not untill the usage of lessthanthree that others began to realise its full potential tho(like benjamin said).

    But yeah, we getting derailed much?

    Whilst I've never claimed we were the first team to ever use a MC first strategy (uC scrimmed el'pheer and they used it against us long before we did it). lessthanthree was the first team in Europe to really show just how effective MC first and the early lerk strategy was to the point of a full scale revolution in alien rounds. When other teams saw this, they followed suit and by the time of free upgrades only knife, the only team better than us, and as such i assume unphased by the power of our new strategy, had followed suit. I'm not trying to toot our own horns here, but we would dominate teams with MC first then a few scrims later they'd be using it.

    I'm not however sure it is something to be entirely proud of. The early lerk domination of 3.0 lead to clutch players on whom teams relied on soley. Whilst I don't want to insult them, flatline are the perfect example of how the impact of one player can dramatically alter the entire teams ability. We all know of teams with nothing but a joke of a marine round and yet strong alien rounds because of certain individuals, and we all know how quickly their alien rounds crumble when they are killed early. Whereas before no one could imagine fading without regen or carapace, now who can imagine an early game without a lerk or fading with celerity. We've grown to rely on them. Our strategies lack depth, they're barely even map specific, we come to rely on the impact of upgrades we've grown used to and a few key players in certain roles who can make up for the inabilities of others and a lack of coherent strategy itself.

    You were the team that fueled the MC craze in 3.0, I'll agree to that. Knife was definitely lagging behind in the tactics department, in part due to us being rather conservative in our playstyle, but mostly because we never had a good Lerk. This definitely hurt us a lot in comparison to <3 who took full advantage of the new early domination Lerk tactic.

    The latest few versions with the pancake nerf have done a lot to help even out Lerk dominance, by simply making it a lot harder to dodge bullets, which has always been the Lerk's strongest "ability". Right now I think it's very possible that the old two early Fade tactics could be brought back and be on par with early Lerk tactics, even with DCs, as shown by Saunamen. Too bad "nobody" plays this game anymore.

    ...MCs first are so powerful that a few individuals alone can raise the entire team from mediocrity to premier league just through the strength of their performances in alien rounds.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Strictly speaking, that isn't true anymore.

    Don't compare NS to starcraft, thats stupid, NS is a fps.

    The learning curve is steep for a reason yall.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    NS in an FPS/RTS hybrid, durrrrrr.

    The learning curve is steep because only a select few other games have anything even resembling the experience of playing kharaa.

    NS has a definite skill limitation built into it, but nobody really reached it while the game was active.

    I believe it has to do with the combination of the resource system combined with linear alien gameplay, as well as one player being overwhelmed easily by several others making it impractical to split up.

    Yeah but the fps gives the strategy a non consistent basis... giving commanders a new style of strategy to learn. And the tech model for fighting against alien strengths is well.... It's too often you see alien winning draws, especially at lesser experienced teams. That's not because of balance or aim as often as you think.

    also what Ots said- the experience gap means new teams will get their asses handed to them unless there's enough new teams to form their own mini league.

    Ok do you want to know how i got into the compeative scene tbh? I made =M4G= with irl mates, we grew with a few finnish and uk players, i have to say, we lost every last pcw, in fact the only one we ever one was vs tts before our offical.

    BUT WE ###### LOVED IT.
    The gap really shuldnt put people off.

    I swear to you public players, comp play is so much better for the simple reason that its so much more fun, exciting and intresting. I mean coordinating a 6 man gorge rush has got to be the funniest thing i have EVER seen happen in ns. Especially if you beat the best Spainish team in ns.

    You dont need to be commited at all, in fact you dont even need a team to play competative, you can play in gathers and mixes until you feel like wanting a team.

    And for saying you put you rl frinds first we all do. Its a little thing called faking a disconnect <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> works everytime. As long as you dont do it in offical matches theres no issue at all, and rember officals are scheduled in advance so you can make time.

    Going comp is the best way to play ns <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />, and its so much easier than youd think.

    As for saying your worried about being insulted? Thats only if you play with the ###### who take a fun gather way to seriously, ie prem div players <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> (A.a is by far the worst).

    Remeber:
    ROFL TATICS are more fun than anything you can do in public
    Playing with people you know and like means you wont be told off
    And most clans will have more than 6 people during a pcw, so you discconecting to go outside really isnt an issue at all.

    So visit ensl.zanith.nl please, we really want a more active scene <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
