<div class="IPBDescription">Why give it up?</div> I enjoy the marine pistol. It is my primary weapon, unless given something (shotgun, HMG or nade-launcher) by the commander. It is very demoralizing to be given a welder or trip mines, only to lose my most effective weapon. Surely the devs can switch trip mines and welders to the 4th weapon slot instead of the 2nd.

I happen to have a better shot of getting to the location the comm wants welded if I can use my pistol to kill skulks/lerks/gorges rather than the LMG. It's not too often I've had a comm drop a welder out at location, he usually provides it in base and wants me somewhere else to fix something.
Would it really be that big a deal to just switch which slot they go to? And isn't there some other pointless thread these people who aren't thinking things through can go read and post in?

Even if I have someone with me (what idiot goes out alone with RP costing equipment?), I can cover his **obscenity** better with a pistol than an LMG. Great he's covering me if I'm going to get eaten, but shouldn't he expect me to be able to protect him as best I can?
Fine, that idea works for me to, I'm just more accuarate with the pistol. Currently my ranged offensive power is getting taken away by me having a welder.
And if you're implying that this was already considered, great, but I didn't find such information in a search.
How do you come up with X2.5 as much damage?
From what I've seen the LMG is not as accurate as the pistol, so you can't count the damage of each and every bullet from the LMG, unless you're up close and personal, at that point you're dead anyway. Even if you do get a full 2.5 X the damage from a clip, the extra time it cost could mean the difference between life and food.
Have you ever considered that it might be a *gasp* <i>balance</i> issue? That's like asking why you can't carry a shotgun and a HMG.

ok, as for the entire welder deal;
mines, welder, etc I beleive WERE origanaly slot 4 (not positive) I beieve this was changed for game balance.
The one thing I wish is that pistols would not go away after they are droped
All to often I am finished setting up my mines, and lo, I have no secondary weapon
I think this should only hapen with the pistol though (lmg no worries, if you droped yours you wont be wanting it back, and HMGs/GLs/Shotties cost RPs and thus don't stay for a good reason
I just don't like the fact that you can't get a new pistol (bah)
and btw, would yalls just try and keep it *bleep*ing civil?, please?

Wow, a post with real information. Thanks Thansal. So they ditched the pistol because the pistol plus welder/mines was too powerful? Interesting.
btw, this is only what I remember, I might be wrong (check with one of the PTs to see if it is actualy ture)
and on the amusing side, there actualy used to be a nuke ;D (we don't know what it was suposed to do, but you can still bind a key to it ;D)
Would be cool to get the basicly eq back but cost like 5 resources(they can keep the LMG, I don't plan on needing it any time soon). Also would of been cool to have another choice of a pistol, of course at the cost of researching(maybe) and commander dropping it, but that is a completely different issue. (A advanced military giving out "better" pistols to some of their soldiers.. just doesn't seem completely right, maybe it is just me)
Which seems to make sense - pistol @ long range, lmg @ medium range, whip out the welder up close, and you're dangerous at all distances.
Not to mention the infamous triad of welder toting HA marines. Best way of taking down anything, really. All three weld each other and weld anything near them. Nothing hurts them, and three welders deal significant damage. Three seems to be the magic number. Two don't heal fast enough to survive heavier fire, and more than three starts to get hard to organise.
Although I do admit that there's nothing quite like the feeling of a skulk exploding at your feet from that last pistol round. Mick Jagger should have done that, and he would have indeed found satisfaction...

Doesnt a welder cost 10 credits?
Gah lazy people, just pick it up once you drop it or dont bother getting one.
though if I do end up with a welder I will simply stick right by someone else (an HA if I can)
and btw, there is an upgraded pistol, it does +%10 DMG (well actualy there are 3 upgraded pistols ;D)

You seem very disgruntled for some reason.
If you pick up a welder and don't want it, throw it back and get your pistol. It's very simple. You don't <i>have</i> to be the one to have the welder. As you said yourself, you don't go off alone.
Old system:
primaries were the LMG, HMG, Shotgun
secondaries were the Pistol, GL, Welder
tertiaries were the Knife and Mines
You could carry any number of primaries, secondaries, and tertiaries, but every weapon slowed you down more. A marine with HMG, GL, and mines was CRAWLING.
This was changed to the current system both for balance and to keep people from hoarding multiple expensive weapons.

personaly I would love to be able to have all the weapons (the ultimate in base deffense, add in a jet pack so you could actualy move)
find a nice high up spot and rain death down on oll the aliens ;D
