Apparently, no information available. Fear it will be 3D. Not holding breath.

    Theres a "trailer" here.

    http://streetfighterworld.com/

"A New Beginning." Series reboot? TV has done enough of it lately.

The art style, if that's supposed to represent ingame graphics, is really sweet. Street Fighter is pretty dead, much like everything CapCom releases.

The funny part is that in 20 years, they're only on number 4 since II and III have had so many iterations.

And thank god for every one of those iterations. Hells yeah.

If they actually have an art style like the trailer(which I doubt), that would be pretty epic.

If not, I'll still give it a try. The punishingly-non-fun of Virtua Fighter, the AI of ######ing bad Tekken, and the not-enough-character-variation of DOA make me look back fondly on Street Fighter.

You should try GG in the meantime. I've only played one, Guilty Gear X2, but it left me very impressed. That's how a modern 2D fighter must look and feel.

If they build a 2D fighter with that animation style I will be sold 100%.

I don't care if the game play is utter poo, I would play it for the art alone.

I am kind of in love with Street Fighter. Capcom's been pretty conservative in making Street Fighter numbers, so I have hope that Street Fighter IV will be a 2D game. I really like 2D graphics, I was floored the first time I saw Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike in action, and it would just make sense, in my mind, for Capcom to stick with 2D for a non-spinoff Street-Fighter game.

To be honest, though, I thought that trailer was kind of lame. It probably would've left a much better impression if it didn't strike me as a lame way to try and "re-imagine" the series. Hopefully it's just an intro or something like that.

Reminds me of that game which starred a wolf as main char and you had a brush or pen as weapon, can't remember the name..

    Update...it's Street Fighter ™....in 3D.

What else would it be? What I can't figure out is whether the gameplay is 2D or 3D. It LOOKS like it's 2D.

if the game had looked anything like the trailer (which is the first time I've seen it) it would've been ace but the vids I've seen of it in action are pretty icky looking :s

As for LF recommending Guilty Gear XX and it's kin, I APPROVE!!! XD
    ~points at avatar~

One rather interesting game which has been made not too long ago with the Guilty Gear engine is the fist of the north star fighting game... while FotNS doesn't entirely tickle my fancy (one of those super high violence things aimed a teenage boys and full of silly muscled male characters) the changes they've put in it from the gg system (especially how death moves work) are fantastic. I keep hoping they'll translate them back into GG :3

Wow... that's a god damn disappointment. It's just SF2 in 3D without the sweet style we were expecting.

    yup.

I mean, SF fans will probably enjoy it, and I honestly wasn't expecting a new game or anything from them. But the art style depicted in the trailer would have made the entire thing worth it in my mind.

SFII was the first fighting game I played so it holds a special place in my heart. The GG series is better than any of the capcom games though.

I should have elaborated...it's literally Street Fighter in 3D. Same art, same moves, same character expressions. You'll basically be shedding out £40 or so on a Street Fighter game you can play on your current-gen consoles, with the addition of some Z depth. The art is even less appealing to me than its 2D counterpart.

It's real disappointing because of what they could have done to the game; I'd be thrilled at just the exact same gameplay but with revamped and reimagined graphics & style, but it seems all they have done is converted the original look into a 3D engine, and added some special visual effects to the attacks, which in this stage of gaming history calls for nothing more than a metaphoric gigantic yawn.

I'm not some huge street fighter fan, I was never one for arcades and the first console I ever bought was the Wii, but looking at those screenshots just makes me cringe. They look awful. I was kinda hoping for a 3d-baked-into-2d-sprite kind of feel, but I'm disappointed.

The gameplay is in 2D. The graphics are not. Stop panicking.

I think he mixed them up since it still plays like ordinary street fighter.

QUOTE

TOKYO--It's been nearly nine years since Capcom released its last Street Fighter title, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Despite its age, the game still remains to be a popular title in arcades and its graphics are considered by some to be the epitome in 2-D fighting game animation. But for their 20th anniversary sequel, the developers at Capcom decided to take a step into the next generation, and to create Street Fighter IV in 3D graphics rather than to hit the same old 2D road. Although Capcom reassured fans that the game would play using the same two-dimensional mechanics that the series is known for, the shift in graphics still became a hot topic of debate amongst long-time fans.

    So how 'bout that KOFXII <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I'm actually kind of into this - I don't dig the style (I was REALLY hoping for the inksplatter style of the trailer, like most fans were I think) but it sounds like they're trying to for another "thinking man's fighter," a la SFIII, in terms of gameplay, and it's as much about the gameplay style as it is how the game looks.
