I don't understand what the bad reviews are about - I was tense in my seat even when the film was in one of it's lighter scenes. I found rotten tomatoes had reviews mostly slagging the CG, which I didn't feel detracted from the movie, unless you really fixated on it. I got over it pretty quicky and just enjoyed the story. IMDBs rating of 7.9 is far more towards my opinion of the movie. Excellent pacing that makes you interested throughout the movie, especially because they don't introduce the infected too early into the film. Nicely acted by will smith, and definately worth seeing in theatres.
Came out today, so you're not that far behind <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
So, the spoiler shows up in the bloody trailer, and makes me not want to see it.
so meh.
I just got the book, but I think I'll watch the movie first.
<span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>They break through the shutters in his house, after climbing the building which seems to be like three or four stories high. Then at the end at the colony that Anna goes to they have this one or two story wall that is like WTF? What's to stop these guys from climbing that tiny wall and killing the entire colony? It was just retarded.
Not to mention when Neville blows himself up with the incenidary grenade it takes out an entire ######ing room in a napalm like display. That grenade, at best, can take out maybe a 20x20 radious. Not the entire lab that he was in. Ill-impressed am I.</span>

You've gotta admit though, that's probably the most badass way to go out.
Movie was pretty good. Ending was kinda.. yea.. But was still pretty awesome in my eyes.
We agreed on the things that detracted from this movie:
- cheesy CG. The posture and facial expressions of the <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>main vampire</span> were a little hard to stomach.
- cheesy ending. <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>an M67 fragmentation grenade explodes instantaneously with little visible fanfare other than a loud bang and a cloud of dust and dirt. I don't work with them on a daily basis (who does?) but I've thrown my share and they just don't work that way. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHHEP0IBAaI" target="_blank">To illustrate this point.</a></span>
But it was good, and I would likely rate it an 75-85% rather than the 60% or lower it's currently rated at RT.

<span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>One of the shutters on the upper floor was already open, they didn't break through it. One of them jumped OUT of a shutter, but it could have unlocked it. Also: It's easier to climb the side of a building that has windows and ledges and such then a pure smooth concrete wall with barbed wire at the top. Not to mention they said there were no infected up in vermont anyway.
Finally: shut up about the grenade oh my god. The second I saw it happen in the movie Im like "Oh wow I know people are going to ###### about this". Maybe there were explosives else-where in the basement? There was propane and gasoline on most floors for the generators it seemed. People are turning into super-strong zombies but you complain about the explosion of a grenade?
Those aside: I thought the movie was pretty good. His interaction in the movie store and when frank "moved" were really well done, being completely solitary does stuff to people, and it gave you a good feeling of what it was like for him.</span>

Do you deny that the age-old cliche of the single <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>antipersonnel frag grenade going up like a tanker of gasoline</span> is just tired, obvious, and stupid? You admitted to noticing it yourself when you saw it in the theater - obviously it was out of place enough to warrant that. So don't you tell us to shut up about it. It's scientifically wrong and backwards, and people are getting smart enough to realize it. So why do directors keep pandering to the 90s action movie audience, when we're already nearing the end of the 00s? It's time for special effects to grow up, and get away from the pyro-crazy bs, if they want their movies to come across as realistic.
In a movie that goes to great lengths to make everything realistic except the science fiction part, it was just disappointing to see.

That was a super grenade, made in 2009. Think about it.

Maybe they're in the works right now. Grenades that make lots of fire, and more visually pleasing explosions.

I thought it was pretty good. I hadn't heard about these spoilers being given away in trailers and such; I just saw a short 30 second spot that made it sound like Omega Man or something (a movie I haven't seen, but whatever).
I'm not going to go into a point-by-point analysis, but if you enjoy apocalypse/partial survivor stories, you're probably best off not watching trailers and just seeing the movie (if you're fearing for your money, just rent it instead at some point). Just don't go in expecting perfect realism and awaiting some cinematic effects. The ending is a little bland, but the rest of the movie flows along well.
To the average movie goer an actual grenade is lackluster, and no one wants to see that. Getting killed by shrapnel is a yawn fest.
Maybe you just have to be a good director to convey that sense of deadliness.
Like, you know, Ridley Scott. Black Hawk Down.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I recall at least one grenade in Black Hawk Down exploding with a giant fireball.
Been a while for me too, and I CBA to verify that :\ I pretty much remember most of the explosions being boom, dirt, and dust. Maybe I'm mistaken.
2500lb payload napalm hand grenades... *sigh*
Has anyone seen this?

The JDL makes me sad.
Talk about the *Overly* defensive Jewish league. What a bunch of uptight crackpots. They miss his point by a mile and end up taking personal offence by the indirect consequence that hitler was involved in the killing of jews. Now if I were to say something like "the point would have still been valid if hitler had been responsible for the genocide of rodents" I bet they'd take that as an insinuation that all jews are like rats. I hate this profound self-absorbing nature that cultural/religious fixations inflict on anyone making some offhanded comment even remotely opposed to their dogma.
oh the irony- who's calling who naive?

I highly doubt that is legal, lad. Nonetheless.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
I enjoyed the movie very much. Will Smith provided an astonishingly good performance. The CGI was unfortunately sub-par and detracted a little from the overall immersion. I wish they'd expanded a little more on the Dark Seekers' pack like societal structure and used the actual ending from the book.
The film unfortunately didnt do it for me regardless, I must be getting abit jaded.

-.-
I think 28 days later was better, tbh. Well, in a scarier sense <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />
must agree it was good, but not great and <span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'> the ending was lame, it also ended too quickley, they must have wanted to squeeze it in </span>

<span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>It was a trap set by the infected. You see they were smarter than he thought they were and learned from his traps how to set one. Or rather the main infected guy learned. That's why Nevel was so ######ed up when he saw 'Frank' standing no where near the video store.</span>
