The new spawning aliens maybe?

Imagine you spawn as this, fly around but can't do damage except distracting and look for a nice, safe spot to gestate into skulk or any other alien.

This would decrease the spawncamping issue a lot depending on the fly speed and health of those thingies.

I also wouldn't mind, if those creatures were just ai controlled "flies" which add to the atmosphere and help to creep out the marines.
"Cormend0r, there are big, glowy sperms flying towards us. Ahhhhhh"

And yes, that picture looks amazing.

Maybe the Alien equivalent of the weld-bot. They could heal the Hive and Aliens near the Hive area, but they cost some res to make.

One thing I love about the NS2 concept arts is that they're oozing with atmosphere, I felt NS was the best in the 1.X stages mostly because the devs mixed atmosphere with gameplay successfully.

LOL yep, i'll admit i thought they looked a bit like that too.

*edit* with their translucent skin revealing their internal organs, and the way they are flying, reminds me of the eye-worm thingys from the new TOOL videoclip "vicarious"

The videocast is about that image (that glowy things are explained in it). Unfortunately we're having some issues getting it uploaded to the service we use, but hopefully we can get that corrected shortly.

That hive is gorgeous, in it's own sickening way. Comparing it with the current hive, I must say there's been some evolution between the two.

What a great picture. <3 NS2 if it makes it into the game like that concept!

does the marine on the right have a clear perspex visor? i hope so!

and is that a HMG he's holding? kinda looks like it has a grenade launcher attachment underneath....

One thing I always hoped for was a hive with intelligence. It seems to give the aliens a "group thinking," but the hive itself in NS #1 just sorts "sat there." Here I think it looks alot better as it seems to be watching those two marines. Judging their human existence, making up it's mind. And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those ambient glowing insects. Those should be all around the hive too! Like little maintainance bugs. Bringing the hive food and looking out for it or somn...

Great shot anywaysm whomever made it. WOW!

    No youtube. Vimeo or blip.tv.
Revver's still a good option, though, from reviews of service and subjective image quality. How long have you been waiting for the conversion and how long/big is the file? It's one of the few services I haven't tried. Most seem to convert within an hour of uploading the file so this is pretty late by those standards. (did an 85MB, 31 minute file on blip.tv today and it converted in 30 minutes or so)

The hive concept looks a LOT like the archiving hive from ns_hera. Does this mean that some old maps might be remade, or was that hive just used as a template for the artist?

That concept art looks great! Looking forward to the video cast and dying to hear about those glowy bugs.

Stage6 is probably the best quality streams you can get if you're looking for alternatives.

I was also going to suggest Stage6 as they allow HD videos. The quality is stunning when compared to YouTube, Revver, and all the other video sites out there. Are you guys depending on revenue from Revver? If not, you should definitely take a peeky at Stage6's site.

Edit: Here's a quick link to an HD video if you want to check it out. It's just a vid of an HD Timelapse:

    http://www.stage6.com/TIMELAPSE-WORLD/vide...e-720p-trailer2

Open it up full-screen for maximum viewing pleasure :-)

It'd be cool if you could spawn in that hive protected by it (no clip). No more spawn camping, don't leave hive till there is enough of you.

It's a little late to be suggesting alternate streaming platforms for them at least for this week, and iirc, stage6 requires the end user to install divx, which is hard on your viewer base.

Oh, I wasn't implying that they should use it for this weeks video. I just meant it as a suggestion / possibility for the future. Stage6 is still quite small and a lot of people haven't heard of it yet.

Yes, Stage6 does require you to install an DivX ActiveX control, but then YouTube and Revver require you to have FlashPlayer installed. IMHO, it's worth it for the quality of video that you get.

Stage6 is great. Faster, better res. and more innovative than revver/youtube.

BUT. There is no linux support.

I hadn't noticed that the big round spot on the hive was an eye before. It makes the hive seem much more alive.

I assume, i'm not the only one anxiously waiting for the video cast to go online. Since there is nothing better to do, let's speculate what the two marines are thinking/saying while standing under the hive: "Comm, drop a PG!!!"

EDIT: on second thought, this might be too childish and unnecessarily pollute the thread. On third thought, if the thread is polluted, it might show them that we really want to see the video cast. On fourth thought, there might not be anything they can do to speed things up... is there a way to delete own message? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

It has the easiest registration and usability is fantastic. I still recommend blip.tv slightly more, though. (depends on the needs) It also supports advertising and a ton of other options including streaming the original format, which gives it theoretically just as good quality as Stage6 if the user chooses that option. In practice, though, you probably want to keep the size down for streaming.

    Wow... that concept is HOT

the little bugs around reminded me of HL2:Ep2 's antlion grubs that populate the antlion caves. except the ones in the concept fly around and stuff O.o
