The author is remarkably well versed in the various mythologies of the world, and not just the obvious ones like norse and greek. And he ties it all together in a comic about a schoolgirl in an extremely bizzare boarding school. A very entertaining comic; start from the start, and you will get hooked.

Octopus Pie is a fun webcomic. Not really funny haha, but I love its toned down and off beat humour. I also love how well the artist does action sequences, like so:

Just read through the Gunnerkrigg Court archives. Quite awesome. Then again I'm a sucker for well-thought out and rich universes. Like in ErfWorld.
Here's one I'm surprised hasn't been dropped in. It's perhaps one of the hardest to understand out there, but if you have the knowledge it's quite good. Perhaps best read with a dictionary handy. Also, while the artwork may take a little time to get used to, it's quite well done.

MS Paint adventures is a collection of webcomics I've been wanting to recommend on this thread for some time, however I've been stumped on just how to go about describing it in a way that sounds interesting, or good. This is only made worse by my terrible habit of describing things that should be fairly entertaining just in a brief description in a way that makes them dull and boring. MSPA deserves better than that.
Luckily, I have found a solution to all these problems. No longer do I have to worry about people overlooking my horribly, dull recommendation. In fact, I don't even need to recommend it to you.

Creators of <a href="http://www.machall.com/" target="_blank">Mac Hall</a> made another comic after graduating and moving on. The comic is a mix of random one off jokes (as above), semi autobiographical stuff, and lots of geek/gaming jokes.
Really, go read it. Might as well read Mac Hall's archives also, as they are also funny.
On the note of LICD and LFG: I find LFG amusing (as I find Richard's random strange things to be amusing). LICD has never amused me though.

The thing I really love about them though... Sohmer/Lar do this for their living, and they bring professionalism to it. LICD/LFG NEVER is late on a comic, or posts filler (screaming bird from questionable content is an example of such filler). Sohmer tends to have the strips written out weeks in advance, and once in a blue moon a strip doesn't update until 1 am rather than midnight. Every other day of the year, LICD updates at 12:01am, 7 days a week. I don't know of any other webcomic with the same quality as LICD that can claim that. Especially considering they also have LFG on a thrice weekly schedule, same artist, same writer.

That still doesn't make it funny...
<a href="http://devilspanties.keenspot.com/" target="_blank">The Devil's Panties</a> (no random comic as I can't think of something iconic as the entire damn things mostly autobiographical, and thus the jokes lack something if you don't know the characters quasi decently) also updates 7 days a week. Sure, the art quality isn't as 'good' (i like it, and I really like her random pieces of art). She tosses up filler rather regularly (she has a rule that no matter what something will go up, even if it is a 2 min filler piece). However I find her funny and I don't find LICD funny.
Also, the Richard pop culture references aren't what get me, it is random stupid stuff like ###### On a Stick and "I like that mountain". (though I will fully admit that I liked the Queen comic)

What is considered "funny" is really a matter of personal opinion. It is based on ones own cultural and social experiences, among other things. I don't find a lot of things funny that the general American populus finds funny, but I understand that many others do enjoy fart humor.
This is why I mentioned the whole 7 days a week no filler thing. That's not opinion, that's just a fact, and something I heavily respect any webcomic for achieving, regardless of if I consider it to be funny or not.

If some one updates 7 days a week with crap, it doesn't mean anything. Hell, Filler doesn't even necessarily mean 'bad'. some of the best DP comics were filler :P
And yes, I know humor is relative, I was just pointing out that steady updates doesn't mean squat if your content isn't good.

Creators of <a href="http://www.machall.com/" target="_blank">Mac Hall</a> made another comic after graduating and moving on. The comic is a mix of random one off jokes (as above), semi autobiographical stuff, and lots of geek/gaming jokes.
Really, go read it. Might as well read Mac Hall's archives also, as they are also funny.
On the note of LICD and LFG:
I find LFG amusing (as I find Richard's random strange things to be amusing). LICD has never amused me though.
The only reason I read it is because of Machall.. Honestly though, I find 3PS to be really severely lacking. It updates just as infrequently as Machall ever did, but it's just not fun to look at.

Richard's pop-culture references irritate me or amuse me depending on my mood, but LFG as a whole I love. LICD I think I just like the characters and I like Sohmer's humor, so yeah...
The thing I really love about them though... Sohmer/Lar do this for their living, and they bring professionalism to it. LICD/LFG NEVER is late on a comic, or posts filler (screaming bird from questionable content is an example of such filler). Sohmer tends to have the strips written out weeks in advance, and once in a blue moon a strip doesn't update until 1 am rather than midnight. Every other day of the year, LICD updates at 12:01am, 7 days a week. I don't know of any other webcomic with the same quality as LICD that can claim that. Especially considering they also have LFG on a thrice weekly schedule, same artist, same writer.
That still doesn't make it funny...
<a href="http://devilspanties.keenspot.com/" target="_blank">The Devil's Panties</a> (no random comic as I can't think of something iconic as the entire damn things mostly autobiographical, and thus the jokes lack something if you don't know the characters quasi decently) also updates 7 days a week. Sure, the art quality isn't as 'good' (i like it, and I really like her random pieces of art). She tosses up filler rather regularly (she has a rule that no matter what something will go up, even if it is a 2 min filler piece). However I find her funny and I don't find LICD funny.
Also, the Richard pop culture references aren't what get me, it is random stupid stuff like ###### On a Stick and "I like that mountain". (though I will fully admit that I liked the Queen comic)
This is why I mentioned the whole 7 days a week no filler thing. That's not opinion, that's just a fact, and something I heavily respect any webcomic for achieving, regardless of if I consider it to be funny or not.

I was pointing out that it really has no real bearing. Lolf did it better though :P
If some one updates 7 days a week with crap, it doesn't mean anything. Hell, Filler doesn't even necessarily mean 'bad'. some of the best DP comics were filler :P
And yes, I know humor is relative, I was just pointing out that steady updates doesn't mean squat if your content isn't good.
