    Here's another one....
You sure remember the epic siege battles in 1.04 and 2.0 where the marines had 1 or 2 rooms left under control (with 1 or 2 RTs but fully upgraded) surrounded by aliens.
The idea is a game mode that reduces the game to this.
Both teams start with enough res and time to tech up to lvl3 and build enough structures (like in siege maps). Then the game starts: the marines are in their base with 1-2 RTs, HA, etc, aliens outside have all the other RTs . The aliens goal is to destroy the last marine base (obviously) as fast as possible (points for the time). The marines must either survive as long as possible or march out to destroy the Hive (there is only 1).

    God forbid! :D

Afaik bhop is based on a engine bug. So if you would implement it via lua on purpose i think it wouldn't be the same feeling anyway

Well I'd hesitate to say that. Movement is usually handled engine side.

If I had to make a guess I'd probably agree with you. NS2 has a lot of movement based abilities(blink, leap, jp) so there's a good chance that there are good hooks into the movement part of the engine available to the LUA code.

I had a (slightly off topic) idea <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=107554&st=20&p=1730188&#entry1730188" target="_blank">here</a> for a more constructive type of game but it's just that at the moment, an idea with no details.

I'll think on it some more and perhaps once the alpha is released I'll get busy with some Lua and see if I can make something positive and fun to play.

Regarding bunny hopping in the engine. There is a twitter they bunny hopping reappeared in the game when they were coding movement. By now, it's probably squashed now. I have no clue which layer will control movement. But I have a feeling its LUA.

By the way, what's a good (free) Lua IDE to use for learning it? I know there's Decoda, but I'd rather not spend $50 on something I might not get much use out of. Once I have some experience I wouldn't mind paying for a more powerful IDE...

AvP2 Survivor, good old days. oh, man, was it fun...

Plus option to build barricades up, and give marines a riot shield.

So, apparently bunny hopping is in for skulks. So AvsA and MvsM is the official first mod then.

    1) Alien Harvest Moon with Killer Marines that want to take your land! By violence!

    2) Find the Alien - 8 Marines have to find an Alien that has to make some objectives on the map to suceed.

    3) Engineer's Club - Marines have to build some awesome mechanic in a huge room and aliens have to stop them.

The gorge belly slide animation looks more like the gorge is thrown into a crowd of pins (alien eggs maybe) by some exo-suit marines, who wanna have some fun.

...so let me introduce you to GORGE BOWLING :D

Not a bad idea at all. I would maybe expand on this a little by having the majority of the section on lockdown mode requiring direct intervention by the commander/marines to override. The other way to make this interesting would be a no-respawn mode set on a 5-10 minute game cycle so the Alien actually has a fighting chance to widdle down the opposition and simultaneously create a tenser movie-like environment for the marines.

I think that one skulk would probably have a hard time taking on 8 grunts at a time in open combat so perhaps certain maps could lend to killing the marines by say- airlock/environmental suffication ect. I would like to see it in playtesting but perhaps respawn could also be enabled for the Alien. Needs some flushing out but I like it a lot.

Team Fortress 2 has Push the cart, so Natural Selection 2 could have Push the Onos or Push the Siege. Objective is to push it to the enemys cc or hive.

    O.O

    Siege Tank Wars! :D

FPS Siege artillery deathmatch action! Bonus if you can stick wheels on a gorge/hive and give them old-style bile bombs for shells.

Then we can expand upon it with a variety of sub gametypes, including CTF, one-flag, TDM, Survival etc tanks.

    stw_dm_ns_darwinia anyone?

Additional: Ooh! Ooh! Don't forget vehicle assault, objective based game modes! And maybe blow them up to 3x their size and have regular infantry pop out and help cap objectives etc. :D

Haha how many hours did I spend inside that room - or trying to get inside! Good times!
