<b>To all of those who are having issues with the editor where everything shows up as black:</b>
Are you running the editor from somewhere other than the directory you copied the files into? If you're running the editor from the Desktop or Start Menu be sure to be using a Shortcut to the Editor.exe, rather than just copying Editor.exe and running it elsewhere. The Editor relies on some libraries, models and textures and if it can't find them then that is what you get. Just in case you aren't Windows literate, to make a shortcut to Editor.exe, right click on it and select "Create Shortcut" from the pop-out menu. After that you can move the shortcut anywhere you wish to use it. If you just want to add it to your start menu, you don't have to move the shortcut at all, just right click on the shortcut and click "Pin to Start Menu."

So far there has been an X300, X800, and X700 with the issue.
That is as you say it should be. All of the props are showing up, and I can place them in the space and edit things. I just noticed that for a fraction of a second after placing props, I can sometimes see the textures in normal brightness before they quickly turn extremely dark like everything else.
just downloaded the editor and I'm crashing while in use. I get a black screen and the monitor goes into standby. Running windows XP 2.8 p4 radeon x1600 with gig of ram 20 gig of free space. I think it's a graphic card problem, I don't know where to find the crash report, let me know and I'll post it.
I crash a bunch but this is alpha so remember to save OFTEN... I usually ctrl+s after I do anything significant. remember how long it took valve to finally add autosave to to hammer?
I did notice however last night that even after a crash when I reopened the file, something I did before manually saving and the crash was showing up in the file. So either it was too late (it was) and I was hallucinating or there is some primitive form of autosave already built in... Max?
well so far we can come to the conclusion that a range of the Xseries of Radeon cards have issues.. as wel;l as the fx series geforce
now the x300-x1300 are a directx 9.0-9.0b generation card. Its only the x1300-x1600 that are a directx 9.0c compliant card, my money is on the fact that it needs to support direct x9.0c, nothing less. Can anyone confirm with a x1300-1600 that they arn't getting the black texture issue? (apart from sloppy joe, your problem is different) The geforce FX series is also a 9.0b generation card. i believe ive just cracked the problem lol.. wheres my cookie?!!
I get random crashes too but its no real problem, seems to be mostly with the line tool. Semi learnt something just now about vertices but would like to clear it up, i was having the problem where if i deleted them it would removed the wall, i couldn't for the life of me get it back, putting in a new rectangle, would put half a rectangle in (with a line going from say top right to bottom left), i couldnt get the rest of the rectangle there (it would corrupt something wicked) so the wall was a no go, and it basically meant starting the thing from scratch. Now i think i need to use the line tool to recreate the wall, point by point? and then use the faces tool to assign a wall to it?? (daft question but mapping virgin here)
So I am having technical difficulties with the editor, and I've been instructed to check out the forums. When I attempt to run editor.exe I get the following error message.
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I have tried reinstalling and redownloading the install files but I still seem to get this error. Not sure if there is something more obvious that I'm missing or if others have had the same problem as me.

There are several mentions of this issue in this thread. The fix is <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=108124" target="_blank">here</a>.
WASD is W A S D , it means that if you have non qwerty keyboard it's becoming quite hard to manage the directions correctly : maybe you can add binding for the directions in Tools/Settings ... /Keybindings
Great job anyway !
P.S. : If you're trying to build a compatibility table to find what hardware is causing trouble you can know that the editor runs great on windows7 + HD 4850
I drew a rectangle inside a rectangle, deleted the inner rectangles face and put a prop inside it. I selected the remaining face with the paint tool and each screen goes black and editor needs restarted. Face does not like to be painted on!
Yeah, I was just coming back to edit or delete my post, but thanks for the quick reply Insane. I didn't make the connection that "the configuration is incorrect" = "Side by Side error."

I can't make any more rooms. I create a room like the tutorial, but using the rectangle or line tool on a face just shows the lines, but I can't extrude a new hallway\room out of it.
Just been reading through the forum's about some bugs and errors, can't seem to find the one I'm having trouble with. I don't know how to post pictures here, so - <a href="http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~rathbone2/editorerror.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~rathbone2/editorerror.jpg</a> There is the link. I have used the same installer file on my home computer and it installed fine, now at work I'm getting this message.
I have installed that microsoft x86 file from another post, but with no luck. Uninstalled & reinstalled too.
Maybe someone should set up a bug tracking system instead of swamping the forums with these bug posts. Or someone could open up a topic that is only for bug reporting in a specific format, not for discussion.

What do YOU think? :)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Would be good for the bug tracking system yes. But that requires UWE to setup at the least so they can look at tracking bugs reported etc. As for forum topic... would need a dedicated forum with some volunteer mods for it perhaps?

that happened to me as well.. for me the problem was, that the border of the rectangles were not one solid line but several lines. is it maybe the same for you?

This is good to get actually. This error is being send directly to UWE when you see this screen. Fill in any information that might help and hit submit (I know you can't, but just posting for others to see). I can't tell what the error exactly is, but UWE gets the information in the dump file.

At first I thought it was because I don't have any other games installed (ie. Source, NS1). I thought the editor needed those textures to run, but now it sounds more like it's the video card. Looks like AMD and NVIDIA can thank the NS team for a small sales boost :D

The refinery_crate_01 prop isn't working properly, it looks like this since I installed the update (just now!). Seem's to be a random crash, nothing i'm doing in perticular is causing it to die on me.

crate or grate?
If grate check the .material file and see if it's setup as this.
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1--><material>

<map type="texture" value="materials/refinery/refinery_grate_01.dds" />

<map type="opacity" value="materials/refinery/refinery_grate_01_opac.dds" />

This is in your install directory, open it in notepad or something.

edit: Oh I see more people have this problem. I checked the .material file and I can't find anything different from other models like crate_02.... all the files are there too.
Mine isn't patched yet (at work, cannot patch as need to go through proxy and cannot configure that)
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1--><material>

Thanks, but it didn't work. I don't think the .material is the cause.
Mine is @ 342KB.

If size is different... that might be fault in long run? *shrug*
Only time will tell...
