Just purchased and installed. I had the "side-by-side" error, fixed with the x86 Microsoft C++ patch. Now I am getting the following error. The program will not load at all. No details given.
I am running Windows Vista, Intel Dual-Core Pentium.
Cheers, Cody
P.S. Clicking the "View..." button does nothing and sometimes I see, "...dump.dmp" in that white box. I have also submitted the error through this same dialog box so hopefully one of the devs can fix it.
I fixed the above error by redownloading and installing ns2_setup.exe. It seems as if the "community mirror" is hosting an older version. I downloaded directly from UWE this time and got more stuff. (Launchpad, Builder, etc.)
However, I am now getting the "Unable to initialize the render device." error.
I am guessing this is my laptop's fault. It runs Natural Selection 1 just fine but it is just an onboard Intel Chip. (945 Express Chipset to be exact).
I realize that I won't be able to enjoy NS2 with this setup but I am saving to rebuild my desktop with a new processor / videocard and would love to be able to work on levels right now on my junky laptop, even if it ran super slow.
If anyone finds a fix for this I would love to know.

updated my Spark to build 137 and now there's some odd behaviour. when I create a rectangle with top view the face gets some horizontal lines on it. after I delete it and relaunch spark editor the whole top view shows only vertical grid lines and is not editable anymore. anyone else having same problems?
Recently updated drivers? I know ATI have released 10.3 recently. If you've not changed any hardware and it's randomly happened, what have you done with your system lately?

no driver updates or nothing that I recall (except gts8800 drivers, but that was january). just win7 updates.
A small bug that I've encountered is when you place a light source, then change the color to anything else, press CTRL-Z for undo, and the color will not automatically change back to the original color. The color will go through a spectrum of some colors, before finally returning to the original Color.
ok i cant find any answer to this, but the dark bug seems to be only when you open/run editor/launchpad via steam. i guess it takes the steam gamma/brightness values and darkens the whole thing, if i open the editor start>ns2>launchpad then it is at a decent light level, i am very happy now :)

this doesn't help, the problem prevails. only option is to change the top view from something else and then change it back, but I really rather not repeat this routine every time I start Spark or create a face within top view.
this is not an editor bug but a viewer bug : when i look at terminal models, when i'm in fullscreen the flash animations works and when i'm not fullscreen, the terminal screens are blacks.
Often when I have spliced a face using the line tool the texture tool will still consider that new face a part of the old one.
Example: If I have a face like so: [ ]
and I splice it using the line tool to make two faces, like so: [][]
I will select the left face with the texture tool and the right will be selected as well and vice versa.
Also, face creation is really buggy. I almost never produce a proper ceiling face even when I'm trying on a basic square or rectangular room. Instead of adding a ceiling face the editor usually adds a wall face on the "outside" of the room, in the "void" or whatever we're calling it in Spark.
Really good engine, great tools. Keep it up, can't way to play around with this editor when all the bugs are worked out. It really is very intuitive and fun to design with. I am not missing VHE.

The face is created facing you on the axis you made it on. If you want to make a floor, look down and the face will be on the correct side. If you want to make a ceiling, look upwards and make it.
If you accidentally make the block that has a face on the wrong side, you can use the selection tool to select it and go to EDIT in the menu, then select the 'flip face' option or press the shortcut CTRL+F. This will flip the brush face to the opposite side.
If you accidentally delete the face but you have the edges remaining, you can select the edges, then go to EDIT in the menu, then select 'Create Face' or press the shortcut ALT+C. This will insert a new face between the edges you have selected as long as they are closed circuit.
I've encountered a couple odd things since I began playing with the editor:
Sometimes the Plane Tool creates empty faces when trying to place "large" walls. The lines are there, but no fill. Usually, I create "small" walls until I get one with a face (they are much more reliable), which I expand to create a big wall. The only downside is that expanding the small walls occasionally skews the paint on any walls they are connected to.
Also, I can't get any of the large entities, like the Hive or MASC, to appear on screen. I can click them into the room, but they are invisible. I only know they are present because they'll count towards a selection.

I've been able to reproduce a rather mild crash bug. I don't know if it's known, i don't have the time to shift through this thread right now.
The editor (build 137) crashes when using the extrude tool with several lines selected.
I was able to reproduce this by:

Opening a new map.

Using the line tool to do a couple of lines.

Selecting everything.

Extruding a few times.

Anyone else?
Extruding multiple lines is hardly a well-defined operation. A crash is a harsh way to handle it though.

I second that. It takes me about 15 minutes to create one section before I go and copy paste another panel and just vertex minipulate it.
Thanks for the feedback guys. We're going to move over to Get Satisfaction for all this now so we can try to get a handle on what's still not working properly. We'd love it if you posted your bugs, problems, suggestions or praise there!
