I got the email saying that they were starting (I preordered the Special Edition), but I have not been contacted about any info on how to DL the engine test. I cannot wait though!!! This game is awesome. I actually want to mess around with some scripting too!
If anyone has any info on how to get the engine test as a special edition preorder, please post in this thread when the info comes out!

Good idea with engine testing ahead of the alpha, just to make sure it works with the widest range of computers they can test.
Here is the e-mail: <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Hey guys!
We just released the first look at the new "Lerk" class in Natural Selection 2! Check out concepts, renders and a movie showing him in action (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2010/2/friday_update_lerk_reveal).
We also wanted to let you know we're starting engine testing with the people who have pre-ordered the Special Edition. This is not a demo or an alpha but is an engine test, meant to test graphics, networking, performance, compatibility, etc. It also includes the full scripting tools so coders can start experimenting.
Over 10,000 people pre-ordered Natural Selection 2. We don't want to be overwhelmed with bug reports so we're starting out small. Then we'll be growing it continuously as we hammer out issues and are ready to deploy it to a larger group. We'll be granting access to players in the order that they pre-ordered (http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy). We're also hard at work on the NS2 alpha - the results of this engine test will make sure it works great when we release the alpha to all the Special Edition pre-orderers.
You've been so kind as to support us and because of that we're still in business. We hope you understand our strategy. We're eager to get NS2 into everyone's hands as soon as possible!
Its a engine test guys so dont expect to be playing ns2 yet, that would be th alpha version.
Still at one point i believed ns2 was like a idea in the devs mind that could never get realized. But it seems ns2 is really coming this time around, respect for the devs because it was a hard road to get here. But most of all many thanks for letting the community see a game come to life and being actively involved with it is something you dont see other devs do that alot of these days.
Was the first day of pre-orders May 27th, 2009? (The reference point I used was the youtube video of the teaser trailer posted, and I know they went hand in hand)

I dont believe it's been released yet. I'm assuming it's going to be bundled with the friday spark update later tonight. They usually update around 6pm PST
Only, I had to borrow my mum's paypal to pre-order, and only quite some time later I was able to get hold of my own paypal and "real" bank account (as opposed to the under 18 teen accounts that come with cards that can be used in as many places as ###### monopoly money).
On top of this, my mail client lost all it's e-mails when my HDD had to be formatted recently before being swapped out entirely. So the only way to determine this right now would be to look through my mum's paypal records. Something I very much doubt she'll let me do.
Annoyingly, sending off for my keys only got me my key, but bugger all useful information otherwise.

What is impressive though, is if there are 5k+ pre-orders still waiting for the alpha announced nearly a year ago, and here we are barely at an engine test.

Where is everyone getting this idea that there is a list of order for engine testing? It was not mentioned in the email at all. If you have the SE, you are in.

This is true, but it'll be a gradual thing. They mention it here: "We'll be granting access to players in the order that they pre-ordered (http://www.naturalselection2.com/buy)."
They said they don't want thousands of bug reports at a time and going in order of pre-orders like Cyanide said, assuming that they're going from first to last.. not last to first? hehe
Comments
WE SHALL SEE.
