Stacking Buildings

<div class="IPBDescription">Exploit or valid tactic?</div> Gorges building "walls of lame" (2/3 levels of OC+DC) for extra hitting power is nothing new.

Now lately commander are discovering that they can do the same; turret factories built on top of resource towers for example (so that Skulks can't reach them) are becoming more common.

Is this good or evil?

You sure you can drop the TF on a RT? I think it wont allow it, post screenshot if you got one

I wasnt aware that humans could stack buildings, but for aliens I think its OK. I mean i think that the NS team could easily code in something to prevent buildingstacking.

I hope not... I think building stacking has become a big part of a game it is what makes a good gorge and what is starting to be a requirement for a good comm.

I've seen a Turret stacked on top of a Turret Factory before...

To me, it doesn't really matter if the Aliens stack their defenses up or not, because whether there is a few OCs side-by-side or half a dozen stacked on top of eachother, i still won't bother taking them out unless i have a GL or a HMG + a few team mates.

    Ak.

Marines can surely stack buildings and the TF on top of resource tower is possible. I have seen it multiple times. I have seen turrets on top of the CC too.

I´ll post some screenshots if i get them.

in the TAU vs. EC demo you can see the marines build a TF on top of a Res tower. Flayra was pimping these demos so I guess it's a valid tactic.

Also what is the use of a turret on top of a TF? Putting your Tf on top of the Res Tower is a much better tactic.

Right now, it's in, so accept it as valid. I'm not sure it'll stay, however.

Hmm, it's illegal in CAL, I just read the rules.

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Although the following may not be actual exploits, they have been deemed exploitive and are illegal in CAL-NS matches:

    - Stacking of structures on top of each other. They are not meant to be stacked... so do not stack structures.

    - Returning to the Ready Room with the intent to give your teammates your resources.

    - Leaving and Reconnecting to a game with the intent to give your teammates your resources.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I wouldn't say it is an exploit or anything. It's valid tactic in my eyes, and much more difficult to do with Marine structures. We allow it on my server. I personally see it as an art...

If you look carefully you will see a turret factory ontop of the marine resource tower which you get automatically on caged... you will also see a turret ontop of this <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I think stacking should be ok, just remember that turrets can only fire at certain angles.

I've never been on a server that said stacking buildings is bad. Some people have complained about "walls of lame" but they still didn't think it was cheating/exploiting. Its part of the game and if most of the community then I see no reason to change it unless it is completely against what the ns devs had in mind. However, given that some of the devs have been spotted using this feature, I think its safe to say that it is generally acceptable.

Alien stacking looks normal and cool. Marine stacking looks stupid and fake.

    My 2 cents.
  • zodazoda Join Date: 2002-11-05 Member: 7175Members
    its fair.

speially with aliens, if they are stacked too high onos and fade may have trouble getting by and be a big waste of resources.. (think redemption)

heh Im gunna use this from now on, making it a pain in the arse for skulks to chew on TF is pretty cool. heheh RT, TF on top, and 4 turrets around RT.... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

umm what happens to the factory when they do chew through the rt? Does it drop to the floor or remain in the air?

Stacked buildings fall when their support is destroyed, they don't 'hover'.

Stacking a TF on a RT may be an advantage if floor space is tight, but its never stopped me from killing them as a skulk. If anything, I find it easier since it blocks more fire. I stand under the RT, and bite the TF where it sticks out. When marines try to hide behind the stack, from me when I'm a fade, I just acid rocket the ceiling. Splash is my friend.

Best reason to stack as an alien, concentration of fire and healing. Stacking def chambers means you can get more chambers healed in the same area.

I stack. I don't consider it an exploit. If the devs have stated otherwise, post a link. They stated the ready room F4 resource exploit was an exploit, but I haven't seen any comments from them to say that stacking is.
