marines sprint

has anyone noticed marine can sprint the whole map without getting tired? I can out run skulks/fades so easy, just hold sprint, and I never slow down or stop.
this has to be bug, pretty annoying one if anything.
another issue with sprint, while running I can't jump. Now, why wouldn't person running not be able to jump? this also is annoying bug.
but sprint cool down has to be added, make the marine run out of breath or something, I doubt running non stop without getting tired is normal.

And they never have to use the bathroom, that must be a bug too. There should be water fountains scattered around the map that they die of thirst if they don't drink from regularly, and then once they drink they will eventually have to take a leak.
And since you can't shoot while sprinting
Sprint is there so you can
a) Be a chicken....cause sometimes saving your bacon is the smartest thing to do.
b) Catch up with the crowd.....Where is everyone...oh hey...guys wait for me.
I cannot picture for the life of me a way that sprint would be used AGAINST the aliens.
A bit of NS1 lore found here: <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/world/sanjii2" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/world/sanjii2</a>
not being able to jump while sprinting annoying bug, every single game i've played had this.
And being able to sprint non stop, again every game adds out of breath function. It makes NO sense being able to run non stop without being tired.
I out ran fades, and skulks without even trying, this shouldn't happen. Sure I can run away but it shouldn't be non stop.
how these two bugs went without a word makes no sense.
In term of game balance, a sprinting Marine can dodge most of the Hydra spikes. Whip attacks always hit, but they're expensive to build, and have limited range. Since Skulks and Fades are barely faster than a sprinting Marine, a sprinter practically has increased speed AND increased health. That seems quite unfair to me. In regard to allow jumping while sprinting, that would make impossible for a Skulk to kill a good Marine who makes good use of Sprint.
(Fun facts: Skulks have a very short attack range of 0.6, while even the marine Axe has a range of 1.0. Fade Swipe and Rifle Butt both have 1.5 range.)

well said. And i agree partly. If sprinting indeed gave the marine out of breath choke, than he can jump all he wants but his sprinting wouldn't last forever. That is why i couldn't believe marines able to sprint the whole map basically without needing to stop once. This means pretty much what you've listed I had issues with, they can out run anything without needing to stop. So if they indeed could get out of breath, sprinting and jumping wouldn't be an issue.
Wrong. In the code, there's a fatigue time of 10 seconds; it just hasn't been implemented to effect yet.
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->//Player.lua:
Player.kWalkMaxSpeed = 5 // Four miles an hour = 6,437 meters/hour = 1.8 meters/second (increase for FPS tastes)
Player.kRunMaxSpeed = 6.25 // 10 miles an hour = 16,093 meters/hour = 4.4 meters/second (increase for FPS tastes)
Player.kTimeToLoseBreath = 10
Player.kTimeToGainBreath = 20<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
Edit3d for my best buddy zex.
Edit: Oh, beaten by Quovatis.
Edit2: Also, the comment seems way wrong. 10 is not equal to 4*(6.25/5).
Oh, also, by comparison, Skulk's walk speed is 7 > marine sprint speed.
I have already prepared a response to it:
Don't read it then.
sure you aren't, you just started quoting LUA script in 100% of your posts for no reason ;)

it's not about me, son! but i appreciate your understanding, +1 to you good sir.
It's more about how typeless Lua programs are. His quote means nothing without even bigger quote of code using these constants.
ahahaha....
he actually beat me to it. i was just wondering the same thing myself actually.. never seen you post so much lua code before. its in every post of yours since then. but i guess its helpful to some extent. as long as it isnt too much to read and potentially not a discussion involving numbers or settings... such as this thread. he simply was inquiring if the sprint features were a bug.
but great work on helping out earlier, glad you got credit. (in release notes no less)
and thanks for being a contributing person.
It's true, but you're looking at the wrong trigger. It wasn't: [got praise] => post more code. It was earlier than that: [started looking at code] => post more code. Maybe I should have kept it within the confines of my analysis thread. I didn't know it bothered people <b>that much</b>. Perhaps I'll just post in that thread, then in any other thread I'll just talk about it and link to the details.
MOOtant: Isn't that because in this case there is no code that actually uses it? I was just saying that it's there, and it's planned. It's not a "bug", nor is it intentional, it's just a feature that isn't fully in yet.
Regarding the 'got praise' part, it is good to know that the developers are watching these forums, and that everyone can possibly help them working on the game. Harimau is just one of the many who did it. And I think he knows that.
To come back to the initial subject, I don’t see the current sprint as overpowered for the marines. It is a great feature, very useful, but as far as I know it doesn’t allow them to outrun skulks, lerks, and fades able to use blink properly.
That said, I have nothing against a stamina bar as a gameplay decision. It is just that for now, I don’t think there is a “need†for it.

I've no fluid ability to write or use lua (more-so the patience to go through pages of code), but I do understand basic maths. So a lot of what is being posted by Harimau is quite interesting. Even for a dullard like me! That and it's nice to have segments of lua code shown and broken down without the effort on my behalf.
So the effort taken is appreciated!
I also know for fact that the dev's love it when people bother to go into the scripts and point out mistakes, give advice or suggestions. One of the reasons for such open development.
Keep at it man! :)
There is a difference between running and sprinting. I don't think you, or anyone, has ever been close to ever sprinting anywhere remotely close to 3 miles, ever. Ever.
To be fair though, the marines aren't actually sprinting either. More of a slow run, or a fast jog.
And I really hope they do not make marines get tired by jogging, I hate when its limited like that. Sure I understand why it might be needed for balancing between different classes (scouts usually are faster and have more endurance than heavy soldiers), but currently there is only 1 marine class (changing gun doesnt change speed afaik), making stamina a useless addition, just change the speed of stuff.
Also, I never been avle to jog away from fades (especially not skulks). Last game I played a fade hunted me from about center of tram trough the east side back to door at rine base and when I stopped jog to turn and fight it, I ended up getting clawed to death as soon as I turned just a bit more than 90 degrees (when yo ustart hold backwards for 1 second by habit and then release cause you go slow at strafe aswell).
Skulks always seem to be able to gnaw directly at the heels of sprinting rine, and with runnign leap rines got no chance.
Lerks can easily fly faster than rines, and that make it hard to trail jogging rines, as you have to brake at times, often ending up in you loosign all your speed.
With normal walk everyone is faster than rines, even fade (not sure bout gorge tho).
