ok, I have sent an e-mail to Max to see if they can find what is the problem. The only thing I can think about is the folder location being problematic. Do you have other games within steam under this location and working?
I don't know if this has been covered or not, but I'm posting this to be helpful.
I downloaded NS2 on my computer (Quad-Core with GTX 480) and ran it but it would crash as soon as it starts. Max said something about graphics card not supporting the 1280x800 default resolution. So I right clicked on the game in Steam, selected Properties, on the General tab selected 'Set Launch Options', and set a different resolution in this format "<b>-w 1680 -h 1050</b>" without the quots which fixed the game.
Maybe this should be added into the first post of this sticky.
when i try to connect to any server its write to me: Authenticating... and after a while its pops up a massage : Timeout. (I can connect to lan servers) how i can fix it?

What is Steam overlay?
Steam Overlay is the thing that enables the Steam Community in-game. In steam, right click on the game and select Properties. A little window pop-ups and now deselect where says Enable Steam Community in-game.
Or you can globally disable it from steam menu: Steam - Settings - IN-GAME
As Alien when i spawn and as Marine when i come near aliens (i think) the game crashes. i have to switch to the Desktop manually, where an "Errordiscription" (dont know that in english^^) is waiting for me. It says that the error has something to to with the "log.txt" and the "minidump.dmp"
edit: ok, looks like i have to install it new, seems that a lot of files where missing

Let's wait for next patch. The other thing I can think of is a problem with a Netgear modem/router which causes this kind of errors on many other programs too (there is a thread about it, search for it).
Hey there, I have a problem while loading the maps. The loading screen appears and as soon as it hits "loading map resources" the mouse cursor becomes visible and it keeps loading without ever starting. When I open up the taskmanager I can see an application running that is named "ns2 crash" or something to that effect.
I am using the windows vista 32 partition on my iMac 27". Would appreciate some help!
gutek, some problems are fixed once you delete all the game content and re-download it because there are at least 1 file corrupted, but as we are close to b161 I think you should wait for it and see what happens. Or when the patch is up, delete all the content and do a fresh install with the b161.
I have been getting this <img src="http://i51.tinypic.com/15f6v51.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> problem since I been using my new Geforce 460 (3-4builds back) I was wondering if my settings were the problem or if it just a bug
hi, can somebody tell me how to change the resolution in the console? I accidentely changed it on 400*300 and now the window is to small to reach the buttons. Why is that actually?

My game runs slowly, i mean really bad ass slowly. Seems like my FPS is close to zero since it keeps skipping a lot and makes it impossible to play. Im running with 4GB of RAM memory and nVidia GeForce GT 120M (its a laptop), dual core. I tried ridiculously awful graphics and smaller resolution but it didnt seem to have any effect. Oh and i also tried the r_flash false, helped but didnt solve anything it is still unplayable
I would really like to get it going so i can take part on the beta testing and contribute my ideas to the game development
If your OS is a 32bit version you should read the first post, it's a memory related problem. If your OS is a 64bit, then the problem is the same many of us have, performance, but is slowly getting better on each new beta version.
I used to have more than 23 fps average and now I get only 17 fps average. Of course this is not only related to the game performance but to my internet connection and the location of the servers worldwide. There are many things that could lead to a poor performance.

Oh yeah i forgot to say that the OS is indeed 32bit, but since it is a laptop i really cant go and remove any memory since i would blow off my guarantees. Not that i would do it anyway, im not expert when it comes to computers. Im glad to hear people having same kind of issues, since part of me went and started blaming the capabilities of my computer for this game.
Thanks for the answer Paisand.
I guess ill just manage with what i have untill things get better
I'm having trouble getting NS2 to work. I read the guide, didn't help. the game won't launch through steam, so i went to folder and launched NS2.exe and Launchpad.exe - error immediately comes up "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.
btw what is launchpad.exe?
Thanks
P.S great fan of NS, and footage for NS2 looks awesome!!! can't wait for it to work, great work to people that made it :)
i played ns1 like an eternity ago and really liked it. So i preordered ns2 and it looks really decent with the new engine, although there is still a lot of work to do.
My problem is in finding a decent server. Anytime i log in there are at most 2 or three servers with ppl playing? Are there just that few betaplayers or do i have some kind of weird problem?

how's it going?
documents and settings -> appdata -> natural selection 2 -> options.xml
open it, change the resolution there
you should find something like this
<x-resolution>
1280
</x-resolution>
<quality>
2
</quality>
<y-resolution>
1024
</y-resolution>
